ihatepickles
While we're talking specifics, what's the range surface like? Looks like a gravel pit in the aerial photos. Is it hard pan with loose rocks on top? Several inches of loose rock? Round rock or crushed? Gravel/Dirt mix? Like the 18th green at Pebble Beach? It's high desert floor. It's hard pan base with light sand and small pea gravel scattered on top. It's pretty sure footing, like concrete with some loose material on top. I never wore cleats on it, it's too hard for cleats if you ask me. Travis Gibson (tgibson here on benos.com) would be good to ask, he shoots in the area. Trail running shoes or hiking shoes would be my choice.
Bret Heidkamp
Here is a really tricky question. Will I loose or gain FPS with my load (4.1 gr. Clays, 230 grn FMJ, Federal LP MATCH) ? vs, here in South West TN ? Hop You will lose power factor. That is a given any time you travel away from your home range. You should know by now that traveling anywhere requires at least 185pf loads back home to make major!!
RickB
So...................what is the elevation there at Parma, Idaho ???? Are you Mountain guys going to Kill us low landers ???? AND, Here is a really tricky question. Will I loose or gain FPS with my load (4.1 gr. Clays, 230 grn FMJ, Federal LP MATCH) ? vs, here in South West TN ? Hop The elevation won't make much difference but the humidity difference might, it's 10% humidity year-round so your zero might be slightly off on long shots. The only shade will be under tents (if there are any tents there) and be prepared for 45 mph wind carrying dust. I'm not kidding... Look for MGM Ironman videos from previous years for an idea of what I mean, the MGM Ironman is shot at the Parma range. I shot the '05 IDPA state match, and at one point there was a swirling dust storm and rain, simultaneously. At least it could have rained first, to keep the dust down. My personal preferance is cleats. They are comfortable for me and I don't care if I have to buy a new pair every year. Parts of the range are pretty hard, but there will be some other areas, where cleats will be an advantage as far as I am concerned. My thoughts FWIW. Tim Egan
Folks, If you need to ship ammo ahead of the match due to airline restrictions, all three match hotels are prepared to accept it. Please address it to your hotel, put Attn: (your name) and the hotel address. They will hold for you. If you need other arrangements, PM myself and we can help out any other way we can. ajg308
The match is full, well almost. As of today there are less than 10 slots left to reach capacity at 350 shooters. Do not delay getting in registration. By this time next week I suspect there will be a waiting list.

Say "HI" when swinging through Stage 6 ... Package Deal...because RickB and myself will be workin' it. Steve, When setting this up try to pick a package that is equal for all shooters. We just ran 2 stages with packages, on one a man could grip span the package with one hand but women & juniors couldn't. The other was heavy enough & big enough to be ackward trying to pickup with one arm around the package. Also on the heavy one the tape seal was breaking down and it was possible to jam fingers under the tape and carry to the final resting place. Several shooters took a single procedural because the WSB specified one procedural if the package was not on the specified object before the last shot was fired. See you there. Tim Egan
Folks, The area 1 website has been updated a bit recently, a few revisions to stages, but more importantly we've got a lot of the sponsors now listed on the sponsorship page, and will be adding more next week. Please check the schedule of events page as well - we are going to try to be done at the range by 5pm sunday. We are recognizing all six divisions, high overall in all six individual categories, and will also be paying out: $500 to high overall winner of Open, Limited, and Production $250 to high overall winner of Limited-10 and Single Stack. $100 to high overall winner of revolver. The following link is for the trophy policy: Prize table is building, and will be an integral part of the friday night shooters function, in order to accommodate as many competitors that we can. Thanks to all who are working so hard to make this match possible. Tim Edited May 15, 2009 by Tim Egan
open17
Just got my squadding info via email. Squad 13. Interesting group. This is going to be FUN! Tim---are you going to have a box and scales at Chrono for the Single Stack guns? If so, will it be available on Thursday so we can check our guns prior to the match? Tim Egan
Hi Bill, We *Might* have a box and scales, but my Chrono officer assured me he could tell if a gun is legal or not, since he shoots a lot of single stack. Also note: We will have a magazine gauge at the match, and really dont want to move anybody into open just over magazine length. Chrono stage will be shot by match staff from 10:50 am thru 3:30 pm, and should be staffed after then if you'd like a cursory check. You might also be able to sneak in during the first shooting period of the day, chrono will be working pulling and weighing, but *Might* have a moment to speak with you. Tim Egan
Folks, To clarify a couple of questions that have been asked: This match will be run under the January 2008 USPSA Handgun Competition rules, including the september 2008 corrections and addenda. (meaning proposed clarifications to production division are not effective yet, nor will they be effective for this match whether they are ratified by the USPSA BOD prior to the match, after the match, or not at all). Tim Egan
Hiya folks, We do have a box and mag gauge at the chrono station, and shooters are welcome to check their equipment for conformance with the rules before they start shooting as well, by checking in at the chrono station when it is not busy. We really dont want to move anyone into open, so please be sure that your gear is up to snuff! TimE
Tim Egan
HI Folks, We've added a bit to the (I can't get no) Saudi Faction stage as follows: Baker Aircraft has agreed to reposition their 2005 Schweizer Helicopter to the match on saturday June 20th. Rides will be available for the sum of $35 single and $60 for a couple. The rides will be about 10 minutes, but there is lots of scenery nearby, as well as a neat aerial view of the match. Working also on a barbeque for that evening at the range, will have all the details congealed shortly. TimE

splashdown
I've got a 2008 Area 1 Techwear match T-shirt in XL that's a little big for me. Anyone got a size L from last year that wants to trade, FTF at the range? I'm on Squad 32, shooting the morning sessions of Saturday and Sunday. I realize that the classifieds may be a better place for this, but this is 2009 Area 1 specific. Thanks.

They will be demoing some of the suppressors and top ends that they manufacture as well. All at no cost to the competitor.
