Those look like some fun stages.

Standing start to prone, 10 yds weakhand, Virginia count? Now there is a shooting

position you don't see very often! I've never even tried stronghand/weakhand

prone, but you can bet I will before June. :roflol:

Define prone?

Define prone?

Umm---face down, toes, knees and belt buckle in contact with the ground?? Why do you ask?

Thinking of doing the "on your back and shoot between the toes" position?. There's a name

for that--Supine.

Tim? Troy?---you want to jump in here? Kneeling is defined in the rules, but not prone.

Hey Open,

Not sure how I would shoot it yet, it would depend on height of targets grade/slop of range etc...... might even consider on the side similar to roll over prone who knows, looks to be only a forward fault line....just thought I would like to see a definition for prone.

I'm not Tim or Troy but Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary defines it as face down.

Easily handled in the written stage briefing....Gotta leave a few surprises for ya!

I don't think I've ever been so uncomfortable shooting a pistol as I was prone and weakhand! Holy shiet that was odd!

Advice for everyone, practice this position. It's easily doable, but your instincts will play tricks on you if you're not practiced.

So is "prone" NOT defined in the rulebook? Could that be a problem?

It sure would be appreciated if folks were informed about what "prone" means as it relates to the Area 1 match. Chest? Stomach? Both? Side of rib-cage considered prone?

Should the legalities of a standard shooting position be public knowledge prior to Level III match?

From the rule book:

Shooting position . . . The physical presentation of aperson’s body (e.g. standing, sitting, kneeling, prone).

Kneeling . . ..A body position wherein at leastone knee is in contact with the ground or stage surface

Standing (8.2.2)..Unless otherwise specified, for a handgun start, the competitor must stand erect, facing downrange, with arms hanging naturally by the sides.

Folks,

Please rest assured that we will either define "Prone" in the written stage briefing,

or provide other means for achieving the intent of the stage as posted, and that

once the match committee has finalized that, all competitors will know it prior to

match day. No one is keeping anything a secret on the standards right now, but

we are aware that there is no definition of prone at this point.

Also - We have shooting slots available on all squads for SPONSORS their

sponsored shooters, we will fit you into the match, we've left room for you.

Please PM me or AlphaFemale for details on sponsorship opportunities.

Folks,

Lots of good talk about trying to define prone - here and in private emails.

We decided to make the standards freestyle - thru a low port.

How you get thru it will be up to you instead of the rule book.

Enjoy!

Soft cover................. :roflol:

Ok, the ports are constructed of a 2x4 box 8 feet long 1 foot high.

You'll be shooting over the closer ports.

And that reminds me of this important announcement:

May First is fast approaching....

The match entry fee goes up to $125 for entries postmarked after May 1, 2009.

Anyone thinking about getting a match shirt as well needs to order by May 1.

We can accommodate special requests for a few of the closed shooting periods for

sponsored shooters and for folks wanting to shoot area 5 as well.

Peace,

TimE

You folk are making things way too hard with the "Prone" thing. IF you want to practice. Practice all the positions possible and you'll have it covered !!!

Me, I guess I just try what comes into mind when I see the stage. ;)

I'm a firm believer in the KISS meathod. B)

See ya there,

Folks,

May 1 is fast approaching, entries postmarked after that date will need to have $125 included instead of $99.

Anyone wishing to add a shirt to their closet is also asked to order by May 1.

A few slots are available in most shooting periods for sponsors and extenuating circumstances.

Final stage diagrams are posted, but expect changes once it's on the ground as well.

So...................

what is the elevation there at Parma, Idaho ????

Are you Mountain guys going to Kill us low landers ????

AND,

Here is a really tricky question.

Will I loose or gain FPS with my load (4.1 gr. Clays, 230 grn FMJ, Federal LP MATCH) ? vs, here in South West TN ?

Looks like it's about 2200 feet and change. Doubt it will make a difference either way.

The elevation won't make much difference but the humidity difference might, it's 10% humidity year-round so your zero might be slightly off on long shots. The only shade will be under tents (if there are any tents there) and be prepared for 45 mph wind carrying dust. I'm not kidding... :) Look for MGM Ironman videos from previous years for an idea of what I mean, the MGM Ironman is shot at the Parma range.

While we're talking specifics, what's the range surface like? Looks like a gravel pit in the aerial photos. Is it hard pan with loose rocks on top? Several inches of loose rock? Round rock or crushed? Gravel/Dirt mix? Like the 18th green at Pebble Beach?
