We always had dogs when I was growing up and when I got old enough to go my own way I began raising Dobermanns as house dogs for almost 25 years. I wasn't a breeder, I just fell in love with their personalities and enjoyed spending time with them. The ones I've spent time with were as smart and as mischievous as a 5 year old kid.

I was fortunate enough to purchase my first one from an experienced trainer who had done 2 tours in Viet Nam as a handler and with whom I became good friends. He taught me a lot about K9 behavior and modification and he put me on the path of having some really great companions throughout the years. I then later became friends with a wonderful husband and wife team of trainers in SW Oklahoma at Red River Kennels. Larry was the first person to introduce me to Schutzhund. **Turned out when I bought an SP01 from forum member Mike Pinto, he knows Larry and Cheryl and hunts with them from time to time (talk about a Small World!).

I haven't had any of these fine 4-legged friends around for about the last 6 years as the passing of the last one was very painful (makes me cry to even write about it), and to be honest I was just ready for a rest from the everyday, "I can't stay - I have to get home and take care of my dogs." From Partner, to Rusty, and Ginger, through Kelly, Tucker and Drake I've been blessed to have some of the finest friends a man could ever hope to know. If there really is a Heaven I know they're waiting there for me. If they're not, I'd just as soon not go.

Cesar Millan is someone I've followed and admired since National Geographic first started televising his program. Over time he's provided me with a lot of insight into the "why's and where fore's" of things I've done right and more importantly, things I've done wrong. If I won the lottery tomorrow I'd show up on his doorstep asking for an internship at my own expense. If you watch him, you know what I mean. If you don't, I can't begin to explain it here. Having seen so many good ones and bad ones over the years, I sincerely believe he's the best dog trainer on Earth. OK...his mantra is, "No dog is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate dogs - I TRAIN people."

A very good friend (and a forum member here) approached me a couple of days ago and offered to sell me his ticket to Cesar's seminar here in Atlanta on Dec 6th since due to some conflicts he won't be able to attend. This ticket is one of a limited number that also includes a post-event Meet-and-Greet with Cesar (!). I haven't been this excited over anything in, well, I can't remember. This may well be the best Christmas present I've ever had.

It's not nearly enough, but -- Thank you, Tony. I'm forever in your debt.

I work with dogs & have seen a lot come in and out of my workplace throughtout the years. I have a soft spot in my heart for Dobes :) I've only had the oportunity to own 1 in my life so far. She was awesome. I live in a small place right now, but can't wait to get 1 or 2 or 3 when there's more property to handle a dog like that.

You don't see many people spell it "Dobermann"....like it's supposed to.

Wow...that's cool! I was kind of disappointed to see him start getting marketed to death with his own line of food, treats, toys, etc.

My new Sheltie pup watches his show with us. It doesn't seem to be helping her though. ;)

I was too until I realized that through it all he's stuck to his core beliefs of doing what is best for the dog.

An interesting piece of trivia I learned is that while his production crew goes in ahead of time to film the back story, he isn't given any idea of what he's walking into until he sits down and says, "How can I help you?" Considering how quickly he's reversed some very bad behaviors (with a clock running at the bottom of the screen), that's simply amazing.

Very very cool. I too highly admire Cesar and all that he can accomplish..... he truly does have the "gift". I'd love to go to one of his seminars...... and I don't blame him for marketing his own product line, really. I'm all for him making all the cash he can, because I figure he'll use some of it for his center, so it's all good. :)

We DVR his show. My wife is making a tape to send in to Caesar on our 1 year old Great Dane, Samson.

Samson is very sweet and good with other dogs off leash at the dog park - but on the leash he wants to KILL other big dogs. My wife can't walk him anymore because he'll drag her down the street trying to fight :surprise:

We've read Caesar's books and make sure Samson is calm, submissive to us, but nothing works in that situation other than manhandling him. At 145 pounds and still growing, that's doable, but not easy. We're hoping Caesar will come do his magic.

That'd be great, and make sure if it happens you give Cesar a USPSA Tshirt. :)

I was all my pleasure!

Mark is a very dear friend and this means more to him than it does to me. I know he will be a great escort for my sweetie at the show. (She loves Cesar too)

I must abmit, it was a little selfish on my part, while I like Cesar, I LOVE bullets. It will be a great trade.

See you soon brother!

It is funny in a way. I'm sure our neighbors think - "here comes that A-hole with that crazy giant dog again"

Samson is good with small dogs while on a leash - and has even been bitten by small dogs on many occasions. I think they're afraid of his size. He has never hurt or been aggressive to small dogs except the pug next door.

That pug incessantly barks at Samson. When Samson sees him out on a walk, he goes after him and I imagine him saying in dog language - "yeah, now what-cha have to say MoFo!"

We have the sweetest most gentle insane killer you could ever imagine (Josie - Pit-Dingo mix) and a lazy, sleepy dog (Baxter Sheppard -Hound mix). Both rescue dogs. We call them the chiller and the killer. They are great with people. but anything moving fast (Squirrel, Raccoon, Rope Bone, hand under blanket) just trips Josie's trigger.
