Do not open doors with the muzzle

Recommended Posts

Sometimes there are doors that do not require a knob to be turned and are just able to be pushed open. Do not be tempted to use the muzzle of the rifle...they just might stick into the door and slow you down while you pull it out

Oh come on now. This sounds like there's a seriously funny photo or video behind it.

OK, what's the YouTube link?

I can picture it happening right now :roflol: Of course this also goes along with hitting the door with your shoulder and having it not open

I remember something similar happening at a UKPSA match (in the dim and distant past when we were still allowed pistols :( )

The shooter decided to kick open the door halfway through the stage, extracting his foot from the door panel sure slowed him down

Um... isn't that what they make triggers for??

Quick removal of stuck material?

The real question is "Is it legal to engage targets through the hole you punched in the door?".

I'm going to guess no:

2.2.6 ...Props must be strong enough to withstand

use by all competitors.

4.5.1 The competitor must not interfere with the range surface, natural

foliage, constructions, props or other range equipment (including targets,

target stands and target activators) at anytime. Violations may

incur one procedural penalty per occurrence at the discretion of the

Range Officer.

4.6.1 Range equipment must present the challenge fairly and equitably to all

competitors. Range equipment failure includes, the displacement of

paper targets, the premature activation of metal or moving targets, the

failure to reset moving targets or steel targets, the malfunction of

mechanically or electrically operated equipment, and the failure of

props such as openings, ports, and barriers.

8.7.4 Altering stage props, targets or any other part of a COF without the

approval of a Range Officer, or setting, resetting or activating moving

targets on a COF identified as “Closed” or “Off Limits” will be subject

to the provisions of Section 10.6.

9.1.6 Unless specifically described as “soft cover” (see Rule 4.1.4.2) in the

written stage briefing, all props, walls, barriers, vision screens and

other obstacles are deemed to be impenetrable “hard cover”:

  • 1 month later...

I have recently noticed pistol shooters opening ports with the muzzle.

I don't know if I really like that strategy.

It may save a few milliseconds but I just can't bring myself to do it.

My raceguns see enough wear and tear without turning them into battering rams.

I can't help but wonder if you don't run the risk of pushing the gun out of battery and creating a misfire.

It seems to me that using a gun in this fashion invites a bullet hole through the port and a shooter going home with an AD.
