Today's match was an eye opener...again. I know I can run with the big boys in the speed department I just gotta get my hits like the big boys. Stage 1 was the classifier "7" and I had trigger freeze on the first target and a make up on the last one....booo. Stage 2, I rolled the steel that was there but had 4 make up shots with the last one being the dreaded, "if fini...BANG, now if finished unload and show clear". That took my time from a nice solid 18 to a 20. Stage 3, had 4 shooting boxes that you had to shoot X targets while inside of. I tide for the fastest time but tagged a noshoot. Final stage, just saw my sights the whole way through the no shoots and didn't tag one but played it to safe and didn't get enough points. Making me 8th overall behind 4 Masters and 3 As, one of the As won the match.

Rifle, had one of the fastest times but dropped 50 points making me 4th out of 20. I think I'm not aiming high enough with the scope at close targets.

Shotgun, it was a stage that you could only have 2 rounds in the gun at any one time. I loaded from my belt, others loaded from the table...table was faster.

Lessons from this match, CALL YOUR FREAKING SHOTS!! To many make ups and the no shoot killed me.

With KY3G just a couple weeks away I figured I had better get that long gun with the big hole in it out for some practice again. As I was watching shooting usa tonight something hit me as I watched the AMU boys work their street sweepers. What did he say, ah yes "slow is smooth and smooth is fast" Then he made a little comment about riding his index finger and pinky down the sides of the shell caddy when going for your reloads. I tried that and man did it make a differance. I was grabbing the shells to high in my hand and fumbling. I'm still no burner with it but I was getting down around the 1 sec mark per shell....now to get good enough to do it in a match!

Shot IDPA sat and knew I did well. Got the scores back today and was only down 6 points. I would have been down less but I had them make a correction as one of my bullets tumbled and they where going to give me down zero and I knew I didn't shoot 3 times at the target lol. Anyway, I just knew I won the whole match, get the scores back and came in 2nd <_< . Now I can come up with excuses all day but in the end, I didn't do what I needed to do on one stage evidently and it showed.

I was pretty much either 1st-3rd on every stage. One stage stood out though, stage 4. We started at a barrel and ran to a set of stacked barrels....off the clock  then when we got to the stacked barrels they SO hit the buzzer and we sliced the pie. I ran it in 15 and change and Brad did it in 13.X and Lin did it in 11.X and I'm not sure how they did it and stayed behind cover lol but oh well excuses. It was a fun day shoot and a nice day weather wise.

I think I might try to make the OH state or WV state IDPA match to try and bump out of SS.....if I can win it in esp.... <_<

Shot KAPS yesterday and we can shoot 2 divisons, one in the morning then another one after lunch. I shot open in the morning with my limited gun and limited in the after noon with my limited gun getting ready for this up coming weekends KY state 3 gun match and IN sectional the following weekend.

I shot on a squad full of very good shooters. So most of the times where blazing and if you screwed up you where at the bottom of the pile. My times with in the squad wasn't anything great, hell I think I only had the best time on one stage and that was in open, with a limited gun :-) One of the guys I shoot with all the time was having the same kind of day I was, we shot ok just didn't seem good enough.....well.......

It looks like we were consistent enough and I missed my first limited overall by .3%!

I did get my highest ever classifier score on easy street a 86% in limited via the calculator. My run in open got me a 80% but if you put that in limited I would have had a 90% so I know I can do that at least.

I do know my dryfire is paying off. My draws yesterday were in the 1.1 range all day, I was seeing my sights, feeling slow but getting points and going smooth.

Been thinking long and hard about what to say about this past weekends multigun Ky state match. I finished 20th out of 66 in tactical 6th A. On the stages I had a finish of 34, 15, 4, 41, 4, 24, 49, 21. Needless to say I wasn't real happy with my performance. I could take the finish if my performance had been better. My pistol skills are mostly there, my rifle skills are there but could use a little work. My shotgun skills are nonexistant. Sure I can load it weak hand but what good does that do when you can't hit the swinging clays? I need to stop treating it like a shotgun and treat it like a rifle and aim.

After, the Burkett class sunday I immediatly took what he said and put it to use in my dryfire the past couple of nights. I had my fiancee test my stance as well....she got a kick out of that. I've set my draw timer to 0.90 to have a goal to beat and to be quite honest I can beat it pretty consistently to a 5 or so yard A zone, so hopefully game time will be a solid 1 second or better. I've been slowing down my reloads down at the beginning of dryfire instead of going 100% the whole time to make sure I get solid reloads and speed up towards the end of the practice.

I went to the range today to shoot groups at 25 yards to get that warm fuzzy feeling for good accuracy again. My sights where a little high with a new load I was using but not by much but they where off....rookie mistake from a nonrookie...not acceptable! Anyway, it makes me feel good when guys look at you like your nuts for putting a target up at 25 yards for a pistol then they see the groups you shot and how fast you shot them and their jaws drop...I love range fuds :roflol:

IN sectional, 16th place in limited out of 83, 5th A out of 11. I'm not happy with 2 stages but those 2 stages would not have helped a whole lot in the grand scheme of things anyway. From 16th to 1st A was 228 points, 1st A was 2nd, 2nd A was 3rd.

Didn't stick to my plan on one stage and that cost me about 20 points on stage 2. Stuck my gun through the port on stage 4 and the slide hit the top of it causing a double feed on a stage I was smoking until the last 4 shots and that cost me about 15 points at least if not more. A mike on stage 5 cost me another 10 or so and 6 I just shot slow and didn't get my points on. The rest of the stages went ok other than to slow for the skill level at this match. Hopefully next year I can learn something from all this and improve.

All the IN sectional is like a Area match. There was 255 people and the stages where great. Not to simple not to crazy nuts hard be good mix of both. A couple of speed shoots and then 8 field courses with very good designs. My hat is off to David Ball and all his crew that put this together.

Just checked the USPSA update and I got my first master classifier in limited on there. I've 2 81s and a 86. Now to just rid of those 70s. I also got my first open classifier which was a 80% with my limited gun lol. Dryfiring every night has really paid off and it has seemed to show. I've only shot limited 4 times this year so its back to grinding it out.

Shot the IDPA postal match this past sunday and had the bet time by 6 seconds out of 35 people at my club. I'm curious how it will stack up nationally. I think better shooters will be in the mid 40s, the top of the line shooters would be in the low 40s probably. I had planned on shooting Late Deposit a certain way but when I shot it I shot it like everybody else and I think it cost me about 3 seconds doing it that way. The way I wanted to do it was very gamey anyway...what me gamey...no lol.

Another good weekend for pistol. I shot the NRA event at Owensboro and the pistol was on sat and the rifle/shotgun stages was on sunday. The pistol runs I had a couple mistakes but I finished 5th on one stage, 1st on 2, and 3rd on the other 4. I guess I was consitent. The stage I finished 5th on was front site II and I had a bad grip and couldn't get the first string going.

I can get my hits now its time to bump up the speed out of the comfort level again then when the hits fall off back it back a touch.

When the combined scores for sat and sunday came out from the NRA Owensboro 3 gun match, it took a win in limited pistol on sat to net me a 91% of the winner when the shotgun and rifle parts where combined. <_< The 2 rifle only stages I did ok on, finishing 2nd both times by only a few points. The swinging clays are my down fall. I can hit the steel, use slugs, reload, its those damn swinging clays! I tell you one thing though, enough matches at Owensboro will make anybody a good 3 gunner!

Me and some friends went to the range to practice today and it really worked out well. I see where my dryfire has paid off in my draw, fire, reload, fire drill we did. I got to run some ammo through my new limited gun. I got to shoot my new .40 Single stack as well. Spent about 6 hours at the range and went through about 600 rounds of .40 and some 9mm.

All drills done with Limited gear

3 plates, reload, 3 plates:

I think my best time was 4.3ish, nothing smoking but I was shooting it with a gun I just got. This drill will make you follow your sites to hit those plates.

Draw, fire, reload, fire:

Cold and warm I was 2.1 and change. Here is where my dryfiring my draws and reloads really showed. This drill we where doing at 10 yards and I was getting all As doing it. I just couldn't break 2 lol.

Draws:

We where doing this at 5-7 yards. My best was low .8s. I was mostly low .9s consitently. Want2race ripped off a freaking .78 with a SS from Kydex with the last shot of the day

Got to shoot a friends prototype 3 gun AR. If it makes PF watch out....it WILL be the ticket!

Got to scare the snot out of some older bullseye shooters until they realized we where actually hitting what we where aiming at lol.

Wish Surge and Roxymajor would have done more drills with us but maybe next time....hint....hint.

Yep, good shootin. It was nice to get out and actually practice some. Some steel, or going back to the plate rack after the paper drills would have been cool.

Both of our 3R3 times would have dropped a bunch. It was a good test and tune too.

I haven't posted in a while so...

My last match was last sunday and I shot it with the CPJ gun that I just got back. The first stage gave me 2 mikes as I was trying to time the shots like my other gun instead of watching the front site and it showed. After that I settled down a bit. Tried something stupid on bodyguard and it bit me in butt. The way the stage description is wrote up you could stack all your shots the first run reload and then burn 6 in the dirt. We'll I did that in 10 seconds and had decent hits BUT when burning them in the burm I hit a the no shoot DOH. I talked to one of the masters and he shed some light on the subject. How would it be faster to take a extra 6 shots instead of doing it like it suppose to be shot....lesson learned. I ended up getting 5 behind the 3 of the best shooters in my club and a good shooter from another club.

I won the rifle stage and was pretty happy with that. I ended up 3rd or 4th on the shotgun stage after the reshoot. I would have been 2nd before the reshoot....oh well.

Today I'm on call so I can't go to Silver Creek but I'm going to head out to my local range in a bit to do some testing.

Shot a IDPA match sat and USPSA match sunday....good weekend for the most part. In the IDPA match I Won my division and class but came in 2nd over all to my buddy....BY 20 seconds!!!! Want2race is truely a freak, that or the single stack he built can truely run itself! He nickeled and dimed me most stages, I got him on one but stage 7 was a long range standards with slide lock reloads and he ate my lunch, took my lunch money, and kicked me in the junk all at once lol.

Side note: we had 67 IDPA shooters sat, that is the most shooters I've ever seen at a local match in either sport!!

Had the classifier after that and at least got my ESP up to where my CDP is and that is EXP. I'm still dropping to many points on the stupid thing. Want2race and Fomiester both made master in CDP. That gives Want2race a master in SSP, and CDP, and EXP in ESP, which he could get master in as well if he tried.

Sunday was hidden hills and the scores aren't up yet but I'm not expecting much. I was having issues with a 17# mainspring and would get a FTF about 1 a stage. Had a couple mikes and a NS but the match was fun, just trying to hard I guess.

Me and some of the guys from down here went up to shoot the miami rifle club match sunday. Took us about 1.5 to get there and the match was worth it. It ran fairly quickly and we where home in a reasonable time.

I had changed my recoil spring from a 16 to a 14 then from a 14 to a 12.5. I had not shot the 12.5 other than a few shots at my local bench range. All I can say, and my squad heard it all day, was WOW. About a year ago me and a buddy did some spring testing and we couldn't figure out why everybody wanted the light springs as a 16 for me and 18 to him felt great. Well come around to present with our current skill level and we now know!

As for the match. We shot stage 4 first and it was a nice field stage with some poppers, clam shells, and swingers. I had some hesitation, I.E. your done shooting MOVE! I was 2 seconds behind the stage winner, and still got 2nd on the stage :surprise: . Next was Quicky II. In the end I guess I shot it fairly conservativly and a Delta hurt me. I ened up with what looks like a 77% when it could have been in the 80s. Stage 1 was a tricky little bugger. It had 2 pieces of steel that activated a DT and swinger each at the same time. 12 shots, I did it in 4.75 down 11, missed one on one of the DTs and didn't win that stage either lol. Stage 2 was 3 bill drills basically, one standing, one kneeling, and one prone all one string. It was a timing drill and I wasn't timed to the gun, 4th on that one. And the one that dropped me from 2nd to 3rd. It was a 22 round stage all point blank. The catch here was you had 2 targets but if you had to make up a shot you had better do it quick or you will have ran past it and there where barrels blocking it. I had trigger freeze, tried to do one from the hip and kept on trucking....yup miked it. The mike dropped me to 8th but even with out the Mike I probably would have only been 6th or so on the stage. Good thing I had a 21 round mag and 22 in the gun!

I'm really wanting to make Master but when I tried hard to Make A last year my shooting really suffered from it. I'm going to try hard just to shoot the stages/classifiers to win the match everytime and let the scores land where they may. That is my plan anyway.

My birthday is tuesday so my future wife and family is taking me out to the gambling boat tonight.....I'm more interested in the crab leg buffet than the craps and black jack!
