Ohio Section Championship - 2007

Recommended Posts

I too had a very enjoyable match. The weather was awesome, and the stages were very intricate without being over "over-the-top" . A wide range of shooting skills was needed to do well at this match. Very well rounded, as well thought out. All the field courses had an element of free-style to them, which makes it allot more fun, I think. Nice setups.

The staff was great as always, and the MD Flexmoney, and the RM Paul Hernandez (prh) were great as usual once again. Thanks to all those who worked this weekend, I had a blast. :)

I don't mind doing a little driving to shoot a major match. Seems the best one is in my "backyard". If you did well it was because you know your equipment and skills and stayed within them. If you did badly you let the stage suck you in. Long ranges, timing, shot placement, foot speed, strong and weak hand engagements; the only things missing were DQ traps and the need to be double jointed or a gymnast to engage the targets. This is of course just how this old, slow fat guy saw it.

The "Why the heck are these stages in the match" stages were some of the simplest but most talked about I've seen in a long time. No tricks, swingers or crazy props, just a clean test of your skills. For such an "easy" set of stages it was surprising to hear so may shooters confess to misses and no shoots. I wouldn't be shocked if these stages had a major impact on a few shooters overall placement.

Bay 1 was a good test of your plan and pace. It was easy to go to fast and over shoot your chance to engage a target cleanly. None of the shots were hard but it wasn't easy if you didn't know what you could do and how quickly. It was painful watching "happy feet" carry a shooter past a shot because it wasn't his sight picture setting the pace on the stage.

Bay 2 was hard cover hell. Again it was an open, simple stage that begged you to go fast but would bite you HARD if you didn't let you sight picture and making called shots set your pace.

Bay 3 with the shopping cart looked like it would be a grooved stage with only one way to go, but our squad found 6 different ways to shoot it. None seemed better or worse than the others based on the skills of the shooter and division.

Bay 4 had so many ways to go that I really have no idea what was best. Again angles, spacing, target size, and fault lines made the stage hard. As long as the front sight set your pace you were OK.

Bay 5 was the best stage for the guy who like to run. Wide open sight lines and a huge shooting area plus targets that could not be seen from one or more prime areas within the fault lines. Look for a sweet spot or run or run to a sweet spot. Again a stage the really let the shooter use his strength to attack the stage not forced shooting positions.

The last stages were both CMs. No sandbagging allowed!

Great match, great weather and a great staff! Thanks all!!

Great match. As has already been stated, nice mix of shooting challenges. Thanks to Kyle and Paul and the entire staff for making it happen.

DITTOS to what the hubby said :D It was great to see everyone. Thank you for a great match! I even squeaked by Steve Anderson's stage without getting DQ'ed this time. Yep, got a DQ in 2005 and a free copy of his book. ;) The dry fire must have helped. NOW if only I could shoot A zone only targets with hard cover

Kyle,

Great match, even better than 2005 when I was there last.

Folks, Kyle and crew put on as good a section match as ANY I've been to (this one was better than a few AREA matches I've attended).

Rest of all, too many to name..........

Good to see you all again, and good to meet the new friends.

Hopalong

Oh and traffic in Cincinatti SUCKS !!!!!!!!
