kennya
Does any one know how SVI does the xcelerator cut? What size bit they use? I have a limited gun that's already built and I am thinking about getting something similar.
Flexmoney
Are those the vertical serration that they put on the dust cover?

XRe
Well, you could always set up a cut w/ a small bit, and then progressively make the bit size larger while recutting the same spot until you find the right one... The rest of the layout should be relatively easy to figure out from there...
Rising Sight
If you could post a picture of the cuts than I could tell you how they do it.
Matt Cheely
It's probably something like a 5/16" ball end mill at a 15 degree angle

Flexmoney
I've never understood the practicality of those vertical cuts. Horizonatal cuts make more sense to me. (Check out Cheely's gun.)
Dave Sample
They lighten the slide, Flex.
XRe
They lighten the slide, Flex. Perhaps you can explain how cuts in the frame alter the weight of the slide???
al503
They lighten the slide, Flex. Perhaps you can explain how cuts in the frame alter the weight of the slide??? The cuts (at least on the SV) extend from the frame to the slide.
Flexmoney
Just so we are on the same page. This from the SVI website: Government pistol showing Xcelerator front and rear serrations and Xcelerator flute dustcover
Dave Sample
Now that I see the picture, I can explain that they make the slide and the frame lighter! The machinist/smiths havre to chew up guns with their mills or no one would buy them! Looking at the gun makes me glad I quit that business 15 years ago! EricW
Those cuts literally lighten the frame so much that Sandoz's full dustcover SV frame is lighter than my short/wide (unmilled) STI.
