InTheBlack
Who makes the best shooting mat? I'm looking for good rubber so my elbow doesn't slip in prone fire. Dillon & Champion make them... any others? Anyone know of a cheap (industrial/safety) source of suitable non-slip stuff that I can glue onto my home-made pad? I'm using a heavy, industrial grade of carpet padding.
jhgtyre
The Dillon mat is pretty popular around here. The smallbore team that my kids shoot with just bought something like 30 of them. Sorry but I don't know of a cheap source of any kind of non-slip stuff to make your own.
D.Hayden
Only thread I found on these.. Of course "Shooting Mat" gave me 10 pages of 'found' items. Shooting Mat, they seem pretty generic... just want to check before I get one. I do like that it's been exactly 3 years the thread was idle.. George
The Dillon is OK, but there are more good choices out there. http://www.creedmoorsports.com/store/home.php?cat=253 http://www.championshooters.com/ -- Regards,
stingerjg
I've used several of the mats from Creedmore and others that were not. The Creedmore mat is far superior to any mat that i have used before.
John Dunn
I've heard of people using hot glue or rubber cement to place nubs spaced a centimeter or so apart on shooting mats or on the elbows of shooting jackets to reduce slipping, but I have no first hand experience with this technique. FWIW.
Tom Freeman
The Creedmore mat is excellent. I know of a lot of hard core High Power guys that spray sticky goo on their elbows and glove to make sure things dont slip. For just something to keep your clothes clean, the Dillon mat is hard to beat.
rhino
Sounds like which mat is "best" depends on your needs. A mat that prevents slipping elbows would also seem to prevent rapid movements for tracking among multiple or moving targets. By the way, Tom F. ... you avatar creeps me out! That's one of the scariest movies ever, and clowns are creepy anyway! ARGH!
Paule
Rhino, you make a great point. My favorite mat is the Eagle one. Nice smooth waterproof suede leather under your elbows so they don't stick when you move to the next target. For highpower I can see you want to keep from moving. The target never does. Mig
Look at the Blackhawk Pro-Shooters Mat It has a rubber patch area for the elbows and a pouch for a hydration system. Although, it's on the pricey side.
