chickenfried
Hey guys, Well I've decided to start reloading again. It's been about a year since I touched the reloading equipment. The hopper's(right term?) been full of powder this whole time with the loose lid on top. I don't have to worry about a different powder being in there, the only powder we use is Winchester 231. Should I just dispose of the powder that's been sitting in the hopper for a year, or use it? Thanks for the info.
AlamoShooter
The only probelm is that your powder hopper is now stained. Throw at least four charges and spead it out in the scale pan to see if it looks the same as the powder on the top of the mesure. if it looks ok your good to go. make shure that you -)0(- out your scale and make surtain of your charge. blackdragon
I have done the same thing! I just run it as normal, Never had any problems! Ivan
PhilTerry
Smell it! Powder which has "gone off" will have a very different aroma.
blackdragon
It will smell nasty! But that never stopped me! Ivan
wide45
A whole year. What is that powder worth to you? A dollar or two? I'd dump it and never look back.

John Dunn
Load it and shoot it.
ipscron2000
I would load it and shoot it. But first dump it into a bowl or original can and shake it up. It clumps up where I live. It might give you a better throw.
revchuck
If your loading room is inside and climate controlled, the powder should be okay. If it's outside, though, dump the powder. 231 soaks up moisture from the air. How do I know this? Trust me, I know this.

BSeevers
I would throw anything away anything I was unsure of and put it under the heading of "pound wise penny foolish" Heck what is it $2 of powder? Less? Now throwing it in a fire sounds like fun to me. Edited December 25, 2005 by BSeevers
Merlin Orr
Had I the choice....I would not clear a squib for 10 x $2.00. Not in my gun. Comes under the same type of situation as I will not pull a bullet from a handgun load if it has a smeared primer. Just ain't worth fooling with.
