38 Special - Good Starting Powder

Abacus

Recommended Posts

I am beginning to reload for 38 Special and want some input as to what is a good powder  to use - one that burns cleanly, meters well etc.  I will be loading 125 grain plated bullets as well as wadcutters.  Powders I have on hand are HP-38, Titegroup, WST, WSF, AA2, Universal and HS-6.  I am looking for basically a range type load for general plinking that will be accurate and just fun to shoot.

AA#2 meters well and burns clean. Plus it's not position sensitive.

Another vote for HP-38, along with a note that I have had good luck with Titegroup in 38spl as well.  Yes, double/triples loads are possible with it, but it doesn't seem to be position sensitive in the case.  I've used those loads in revolvers and a rifle with good results.
