Large frame Stock 2 - older vs newer

Has this been discussed? I bought mine a year apart around 2015 I think. Always wondered why the molds were changed. Newer has less trigger guard relief, flatter beaver tail, hump backstrap, scalloped grip interior, tighter slide to frame fit and more nose heavy.

Yeah, his new gun has the longer barrel but that link shows the old gun having the longer barrel.

I've been meaning to take some dial calipers to my Stock II and III anyway.

I always see the "fullsize" tanfoglios listed as 4.5" barrel length and the "longslides" at 4.75".  However, I have dug up a few posts referencing 4.93" for the longslides which made me go to Tanfoglio's site to see what they say.

They list them as 125mm and 113mm respectively, which comes out to 4.92" and 4.44".  I'm willing to bet those are closer to where they are.

Just have one old frame gun. It seemed to be the worst mess dimensionally when making all the PD competition parts fit, also the opening for the magazine also had a very visible lump in one side as if something went a little sideways during casting, was surprised that QC let the gun ship with it looking like it did.

It still works though after fiddling and I planned to open up the mag opening anyway so no big deal. Not sure if this is a typical thing or just an anomaly.

You would have expected them to try and improve any weakness's in the frames when they went to revision 2, do not know if this is a thing either.

So much for this theory of mine.

Stock II:  4.42"

Stock III:  4.78"

And I assumed the Stock II Australian would just be 4.78" then like our "longslides".  I'm going to see if I can find a picture of that 4.93" Australian Stock II, sounds sick.

The 125mm listed on the Tanfolgio official site really thew me off.  Converted to metric units my Stock III actually measures 121.4mm which means they aren't even rounding up.

They are pretty dead on with the 113mm for the "standard" size models though.

You're not the first to have that thought.

I'm still thinking (hoping) the "Aussie version" with the 4.93" barrel may be imported by IFG.

Dang, 5.4 ounces heavier?

Below is from the USPSA production list.

Stock II 44 oz.

Stock II (Witness Elite Stock II 47.6 oz.

Stock II L 4.93" barrel 9mm 9X21 49.4 oz.

I wonder what the real length of that Australian Stock II is?

I just searched and found it available on some foreign retailers and at least one listed it as 4.75".  I wonder if those thinking it is 4.93" are doing the metric conversion?

That would make more sense then Tanfoglio having yet another slide, frame, and barrel length in the stable.
