urnsrus
l Just tricked out my Glock 19. What powder/OAL/load data is best using MG JHP 124 gr.?
MemphisMechanic
For competition purpose with minor power factor? For casual plinking ammo? Do you want it hot enough to mimic self defense ammo?
urnsrus
Minor competition. Thanks! I was looking at 124 JHP Montana Gold; N320 @ 4.1 gr. OAL 1.125?

I'd start by doing The Plunk Test (TPT) - that will establish the longest OAL you'd be able to use in YOUR gun/mag. Just shorten it by a bit, and you're good to go. Hope you have a chrono - just start low with the N320 (an excellent choice of powders), and work up slowly with the aforementioned chrono
urnsrus
Totally forgot about the plunk test. Gotta love this site. Thanks!
MemphisMechanic
Why N320? Its perhaps the most expensive option for powder, and doesn't gain you anything Titegroup, Prima V, WST, or Clays won't... expect leaving the interior of your gun a little cleaner. N320 is a great option, for sure. But at 200% of the price of powders that do 90% of what it does, I can't make myself purchase it.

I have always been happy with WW231 - never tried N320, but have read Great Things about it Probably increases the price of a box of reloads by about $.37, or so? If I ever run out of WW231, and get back into limited minor, I might try a pound myself of the N320
Darrell
Best load I had in Glock 17 was 124 MG JHP with 5.4 gr of Power Pistol at 1.120. PF was 137 10 shot group at 25 yds in ransom rest was 1.71. 6.0 grs shot accurate too, but more recoil. PF was 144 and 10 shot group at 25 yds was 1.88". 9x45
I used to run the 124 MG JHP's on top of 4.5 grains of TG at 1.175" OAL to make minor. But why a G19 for USPSA? or even IDPA? Edited July 28, 2017 by 9x45
Hi-Power Jack
BTW, for minor loads, I wouldn't waste my money on the MG's. I'd used a coated bullet (BBI) or something like that - save quite a bit of money, and less powder ....

Practice load. Edited August 1, 2017 by mjmagee67
David.Hylton
124 MTG, 4.2 Titegroup @ 1.125 for about 135 pf out of a GL 17. Using a coated bullet (124 Blue Bullet or Black bullet) 3.7 gr TG at the same length yields 130-133 pf
pbcaster45
The Precision Delta is almost identical to the Montana Gold. From a Glock 34 factory barrel. Bullet: Precision Delta 124 gr. JHP Powder: Hodgdon Titegroup 4.0 grs Primer: CCI-500 Case: Federal LOAL: 1.113 – 1.114 (.843 Base to Ogive with Stoney Point) Average Velocity: 1080.62 fps PF: 133 Recoil Spring: ISMI 13 lb. recoil spring and Jager Polymer Guide Rod. 9x45
HiTek coated bullets are a great value compared to full metal jackets. My current minor load is a 124 gr Bayou flat point of top of 3.4 grs of TG at 1.100" OAL. makes 130 of of a G17 with a BarSto barrel.
frankge
Titegroup 4.1-4.2 with 124 MG 1.135 for G17/34, 19 will be a tad slower Edited August 3, 2017 by frankge
