jlegnor
Just shot my first IDPA match yesterday, and gotta say it was a blast! This was my first time shooting anything but paper targets at the range, so going in my only goals were not to get DQ'd, and not to come in dead last. Shot my XDm 5.25 with only a spring set from PRP, and managed to finish 15 out of 22 in SSP so I was happy with that. Initially I was nervous as hell, thinking I should just go VERY slow with everything. But once I got up to shoot my first stage, all the nervousness left and I just went full tilt. Think it helped that I wasn't concerned at all about my scores, just wanting to get through my first time and have fun with it. One thing that surprised me is how well I did do with the pop up and swinging targets. All the practicing over the years with grip, stance, front sight focus kicked in so I was able to shoot without having to actually THINK about shooting. Course I have procedural points added out the wazoo, mostly things I think most newbies would get. With the worst one being my first stage, miscounting my ammo and only loading 10 in my first mag instead of 11. So we'll get a barny mag to keep that from happening again. Anyways, just stoked about finally doing something I've wanted to do for years and actually having fun with it. And got to say a big thanks to many on this board. I'm not big on posting on forums, but I've read MANY of the tips and advice many of you have given to others, and whether you guys know it or not, it does help those of us still lurking in the shadows. MarilynMonbro
Glad you had fun! I don't use a barnie mag unless I'm shooting my XDS in CCP because I only have 8 round mags

Hi-Power Jack
Welcome aboard. If you think IDPA is fun, and when you get tired of a lot of procedurals, you should try USPSA. Now, that is Really FUN.

shooterclay
Started with IDPA, then US Steel Challenge, next 3 Gun nation and now USPSA. IDPA was a good place for me to start, steel challenge was great for transitions/target to target, 3 Gun made me faster, and USPSA is teaching me how to look at all of the shooting positions/options for each stage. bigdawgbeav
We had 2 or 3 new shooters in our squad yesterday... they had a blast as well. We made sure to tell them to get out the credit cards because you're about to buy a bunch of new gear.
jlegnor
The guys in my squad were great. Only time anyone was ever serious was when the buzzer went off. Then after the last shot, back to cutting up.

9x45
See, the fundamentals: stance, grip, sight picture and trigger control really do work.
