SALIENT LIMITED 2011 BUILD

Recommended Posts

I dropped off this design, parts, and deposit to Rob Melhorn (Man Mountain Engineering/1911 pistolsmith for Salient Arms on Sunday evening. He has been my gun doctor since I bought my first race pistol, and is a great guy to work with. He's fast, and the work is top notch. Often times, when you call him, he'll tell you to come over right away and he'll fix your gun!

Anyway here's the design I had a buddy photochop from other beautiful guns I liked:

And on the fifth day, Rob serrates, slots, and panels! Looks like the slide cuts are all done. Now the polishing/bedding begins.

I'm getting pretty damned excited, as this has only been 5 days since I dropped the parts off.

Thanks, Eli. That's why I have a tungsten guide rod in it. After completely defeating the purpose of having a hybrid barrel, and removing so much material off the slide and frame up front, the tungsten should balance it out quite nicely.

It's nice too because once you start shooting it if you decide the front end is too heavy you can just switch to a stainless guide or aluminum if it is still too heavy with the stainless. I did some experimentation with that in my SVI. It makes a noticeable difference. I ended up staying with the stainless.

Rob & I decided that hard chrome would show off the cuts more than a DLC or Melonite, so we sent her to APW for the brushed hard chrome with matte blasted tri top & serrations. I haven't had the best of luck with coatings, and HC has always done me right, so what's a few more bucks to guarantee me a little peace of mind, and make sure my gun doesn't come back purple! Barrel is being polished, and she'll be all mine as soon as the frame, slide, & slide stop are back

Thank you, Rob is a great pistol builder. Unfortunately, Salient is in the process of moving, and I'm still waiting for laser etching of logos, and some last minute details because I lagged in figuring out a finish. If would of gone Melonite, I'd be shooting right now!

On a side note, probably getting the barrel TiN'ed after it's polished. Can hardly wait to get her in my hands!
