3gunnah
I was wondering if anyone thought S & W might put out a 929 with a Full profile 5 inch barrel? And if there were any custom guys who could make one if Smith does not at some point? thanks
Fordfan485
Buy a 986 and swap the barrels?
azfred
I'm sure if you have the money their is someone who will make one...
3gunnah
The 986 is still a slab side barrel, I want it to be the same basic size and shape as my 625 5 inch. I just have a thing for 5 inch Smith revolvers!
PatJones
The 986 is a L frame, it will not fit the N frame 929. I expect the 6" barrel is to help make power factor with the small case in a firearm with a cylinder gap.
Toolguy
You could use a 5" 627 barrel. You would probably need to shoot .357 diam. jacketed or .358 diam. lead though.
Tom E
You could use a 5" 627 barrel. You would probably need to shoot .357 diam. jacketed or .358 diam. lead though. With the 929s' throat diameters it seems you should be doing that anyway?
Toolguy
Yes. I am using .357 125 gr. JHP Zero bullets in my 686 Bianchi gun. It has a Walther barrel made from a blank with .355 bore. They list that as the blank for 9mm and 38/357 both. They don't make a .357 sized barrel. The idea of the 929 was so you could use regular 9mm ammo with .355 bullets. I am disappointed that they didn't make .355 throats in the cylinder, but I don't have a 929 that I can test to see how it works the way it is. Having no first hand experience with them, I am not in a position to pass judgement. Maybe they are OK as is, I don't know except for what other people have to say. JohnRodriguez
this is the part# for 5.5" super barrel from S&W 248550000. maybe they have them. as far as the barrel diameters, my 38/357 627 slug in at .354 and my two supers slug at .355. okshootist
I think the simplest solution would be to shorten the existing barrel and install a Weigand sight ramp.
kmca
I asked some of the revolver guys around here that had that gun. They told me that the longer barrel was needed to make power factor. It's something I was told by some pretty experienced revolver shooters, so take it for what it's worth
Tom Freeman
I bet they went with 6.5 for sight radius.
MWP
Its for sight radius, the 929 is slower than the 986.
PatJones
With my .25-.35 splits on the trigger, that gives plenty of time to swing a revo around.
3gunnah
Thank you for all the responses. Looks like I will just stick with an 8 shot 357.
bkfranklin22
I think they will eventually make one
