jsg
Just got a Trojan in 40. I have never loaded 40 (lots of 9 and 45). I will be trying 165 and 180 xtreme bullets for now. Seems many load the 40 long for the Trojan to feed reliably. What length has worked best for you?
jman93
I load 200gr BBI @ 1.90 for both my Trojan and Edge. They both feed perfectly.
mwx40x40
It may also depend on what mags you are running. 10mm mags long will be fine, but some of the 40 mags with rib in the back only allow for about a 1.140" max OAL
Rob01
I run 10mm Tripp Corey mags in my Trojan and I load my 180 HAPs to 1.145" so I can also use them in my Glock. They run great.
jsg
I appreciate the responses. I have and am planning on using Wilson 40 mags. I also have a bunch of Wilson 45 ETM mags I could try. The Trojan is my only 40 so I can load specifically for it.
Calishooter
I just got my 40 Trojan along with Tripp Corey mags. Loaded some 180 gr BBI with various OAL of 1.165, 1.175 and 1.180 and they all cycle well.
jsg
Kinda got a little ahead of myself and loaded 40 rounds last night with various test charges of Bullseye, Titegroup, and 231 to run over the chrono Friday. All the loads I found were for a 1.135 or shorter aol. I went ahead and loaded to 1.165 for this test. Assuming I do not have an issue with that length, I will zero in on a powder choice and then tinker with loading longer until I find what works best. If I do have an issue, it isn't many rounds to pull... The Wilson mags have plenty of room for a longer load. Oh, I also had forgotten I bought 200 grain Xtremes as well so I am trying them first. jcc7x7
Do a plunk test and see how far/deep your chamber is I like to go as long as I can and cleaning eject the round based on how long the ejection post is etc. Obviously you also have to fit in magazine. If you have other 40's you may want to load all your ammo for the shortest OAL == I run 1.180 - 1.190 with Bayou 200's

Bunsen
With the 180 Xtreme I like to keep them short at 1.14 with a 175 PF so they work in all of the guns. I used to load longer then would get ammo mixed up. One or two bad matches and I was done.
kalaikanui
Running 1.132 in both my Tojan and my Edge with no problems.
