Newbie here. How does one purchase a gun from a member?

How does one purchase a gun from a member on here 2000 miles away? I know all about trust. I’m in VA and sent $1800 to a fine gentleman in AZ for a data logger (drag car) 4 years ago and still waiting on it to be shipped. So is there any means of not getting screwed? Or is it a trust thing again?

I agree with Vigilante. I've never had a problem here. There is always a certain amount of trust in any transaction. Even at gun auction sites you must trust the seller. When in doubt, don't buy. You can always ask the seller if he's sold anything before on the forums. Maybe he'll give you a few references. These Forums were created to allow shooting enthusists to openly share and interact with each other at a very high level of respect. There are a group of people here who have been working very hard since this site was formed, to help keep out those who are only here to cause trouble. This includes people who abuse the Classified Forum. This doesn't make it perfect, but does make it one of the best sites on the internet for these types of tranactions.

I've only been a member here for a couple months but I've made quite a few transactions with members, one of which for a sight unseen gun well into the 4 digits price range. I've been very happy with all the guys I've dealt with, some are a little quicker with responses than others but all top notch guys. For some reason, I think the camaraderie that exists in competition shooting makes for a great bunch of guys with a well tuned moral compass. My 02

I have, on occasion, checked out the sellers personal profile and looked at their friends list. If the seller has no friends, I am skeptical. If they do have friends, you can send a personal message to a couple of those friends for input ;)

There is actually a black list of sellers here too. Not many on it though. But the thread had some good advice for timid buyers.

Personally I base things off of post count and member interactions.

There's a friends list? I had no idea that existed. Seriously.
