UCOShooter
I was at the office today talking to some fellow gun nuts, that I work with, about my STI. One guy asked me if I have changed out the barrel, then I replied with "No, why would I?". He was astonished that I have not changed the barrel and says that he always changes out the barrel. So my question is why would you want to change out a match-grade barrel? What else would you get?
Pat Miles
It would be interesting to have a conversation with your friend as to why he always changes out barrels.
ParaGunner
If there's nothing wrong with it , then why change it?
Trent1k1
30k rounds on my stock STI Barrel. Still WAY more accurate than I am.
TISCHLJ
The STI short block full dust cover assy I purchased in .40 Cal in 2007 as well as a stock Trojan purchased in late 2009 also 40 cal continue to provide excellent service and accuracy and are well fitted assemblies.I think there are some better barrel choices out there...but there is no need to change the barrel unless there is a valid reason to do so....imho... Aircooled6racer
Hello: The STI barrels are actually pretty good barrels. I would not change it out until the accuracy goes away after many tens of thousands of rounds. Thanks, Eric
Ftc
I could see replacing a stock glock barrel with a drop in for various reasons, but I would think a 1911 type gun would need to be fitted by a good smith. And even then with the STI, one would have to be good enough to out shoot that stock barrel (not me). At that point I'd be looking to go custom build. hitman
Don't be that guy. Bet he buys the cheapest drop in barrel he can find.
brongy
for some its for personal satisfaction having a schuemann, barsto, etc.. installed..for some it makes them "shoot better" and for some only the best will do (should have gone the custom route though). I was like that when I was new to the sport. just had to have a barsto installed in my gun which had no accuracy problems.it was installed by bubba and runined the guns timing and perfect fit.. later on I realized barrels nowadays are well made.I once had a norinco. after a bit of tuning and hard fitting a bushing it shot 1 hole groups at 20m with the stock barrel..shot thousands of rounds never lost accuracy I later regretted selling it. I wanted to buy the gun back but adding insult to injury the new owner refused and thanked me for having the gun built the way it is.anyway back to the topic, if I had an sti id only change the barrel if I was to be competing with the top 10 GMs. STI barreled guns I have handled are very accurate.. andy27al
STI barrels are more accurate than most of those that shoot them.
Ultimo-Hombre
you will never make -- class with a stock barrel.
Dr Mitch
Fitting a new barrel for no reason sounds like a disturbing waste of money.
BigGabe
Some people are always looking for that extra point or target. Clay target shooters love to change things to gain an extra target. Just human nature I guess. No need to change out a good barrel.
fastluck13
I am willing to bet you can outshoot your friend with your gun. Or his gun. Or a borrowed hipoint. Doubt he knows what he is talking about and almost certainly cannot back it up.
