I have 500 Extreme 200gr plated bullets to try out in my Edge to see if I like them. I am planning on loading them to 1.180". I was looking through the threads and came up with these starting points for testing purposes:

WST - 4.3gr start

WSF - 4.7gr start

HS-6 - 5.3gr start

7625 - 4.3gr start

I also have Unique and Clays, but I did not find a lot for those two powders.

If anyone sees anything dangerous or questionable (for our PF purposes), please let me know.

Thank you

As always when experimenting with unproven load start with ligther loads that look almost ridiculous and take any advice with a grain of salt (including my advice).

I have developed a load using Zero 200gr JRNFP using N320 for my STI limited 5" barrel. It works out to 4.7gr N320 and OAL of 1.190.

From what I have read is that whenever working with heavy bullets and fast powders you need to load longer OAL's To keep pressure levels safe. I did not want to use Clays because the quick burn rate and the pressure spike problems with very small changes in the charge weight and bullet setback.

If I had some WSF or N340 I probably would have used those powders. I am happy with my N320 load and will probably switch to WSF when I find some.

I am open to any criticisms or corrections to my observations. Always willing to learn.

I'm using 4.1gr of WST to make major (170PF) with X-Treme 200gr plated loaded to 1.190" in my STI Edge. at 4.3gr I started to see flattened primers.

BTW 4.1 gr of WST on Xtreme 200grs is one helluva soft load :)

I had a chance to get to the range yesterday to chrono. I had the 200gr Xtreme Plated Bullets with 4.3gr, 4.4gr & 4.5gr of WST loaded to 1.180"

Outside temp and rounds were 36F

4.3gr WST: 889, 891, 880, 889, 890, 892, 880, 888, 938, 892

4.4gr WST: 895, 913, 903, 890, 904, 898, 906, 891, 907, 884

4.5gr WST: 907, 888, 893, 915, 907, 893, 894, 896, 910, 884

Looks like you can lower it to 4.2 gr of WST and get it down to 850fps and get a 170 power factor.

Maybe, but maybe not. WST seems to be reverse temp sensitive, so I have to try these at a warmer temp and see what I get.

From the data posted on these forums, WST really isn't "reverse" temp sensitive. You lose power when it is really cold, but nowhere near like N310. You gradually gain power to the 60s and 70s, then lose power again as it gets warmer. I can confirm the low to midrange curve, but not the warm end. The only chronoing I did with WST at 85F was using a different bullet, so I can't compare.

Interesting, I will have to load some more up and see if I get this pattern.

Took out some more 200gr Xtreme Plated with WST. Loaded to 1.180" out of an STI Edge. Tula SP. About 90F outside.

4.0gr: 797 814 817 806 815 801 817 797 820 810 805 808 813 797 814 841 828 825 822 824

4.1gr: 818 826 825 814 811 817 833 826 802 821 843 826 823 824 831 839 819 824 839 841

4.2gr: 825 836 824 843 835 813 843 835 843 844 825 838 838 840 828 834 828 838 825 824

Infer what you will from the tests earlier in the thread in 36*F outside temp. I am all ears on speculation. Looks like to me, 4.3gr might be a good year round load, based on numbers above.

I may have to go back and start loading WSTs again.

Great info PKT1106. I am going to load some for 40 again and try it out. I've been load TG for 40 lately, tho it is very consistent but I think its a little harsher than WST.
