Revofan
anyone have expereiance with apex evo hammer ? i would like to lighten up my trigger pull ??? i will gage it tonite but i believe its 7-8 lbs now in my 627's
PatJones
Nice part. Very well made. I want one too, but it's not necessary to lighten your trigger pull. My revo runs 100 percent at 6 pounds with federal primers and a stock hammer. I could probably go lighter but I don't like the feel. I went back to 6.25 lbs because I find it easier to run quickly. Revofan
i tried a fellow competitors revo this past week end and it had a 4lb trigger and it was increadible to shoot falling steel with
seanc
i tried a fellow competitors revo this past week end and it had a 4lb trigger and it was increadible to shoot falling steel with I have 3 N frame revolvers, all of them have triggers that are 4-5 lbs and all of them have evo hammers. That is not to say that they are required or anything, not by a long shot, but a light hammer, which the evo is, is definitely part of the formula for getting a light action... MWP
I've got one in every competition gun I own, extremely well made. I couldn't be happier.
alecmc
yup yup and yup. i've got them in all my competition guns, well worth it , along side the correct action job.
BillR1
Can the Evo be put in a MIM gun?
alecmc
Can the Evo be put in a MIM gun? Yes, The will ONLY work with S&W revolvers with internal firing pins
bountyhunter
That a DAO only hammer? I don't see the SA sear notch usually found on the lower part of the hammer. Edited August 26, 2014 by bountyhunter
alecmc
How about more importantly there is no spur to even cock it back to single action. It's a competition DAO hammer Edited August 26, 2014 by alecmc
BillR1
Is this a near drop-in part now that it comes with the sear, pins, etc. preassembled?
toothguy
Is this a near drop-in part now that it comes with the sear, pins, etc. preassembled? From the web site it looks like you get everything installed on the hammer for $149.95. https://apextactical.com/store/product-info.php?pid5.html
alecmc
Is this a near drop-in part now that it comes with the sear, pins, etc. preassembled? It comes pre-assembled, but will most likely require some sear fitment.

MWP
I'm sure you already know this, but the hammer alone will not make your trigger pull lighter.
acpie360
Apex site specifically says the hammer is designed for the L/K frame. Isn't 627 the N frame?
MWP
There is an L/K frame model, and an N frame model.
acpie360
Thanks. I was only looking at the link toothguy provided. Edit - Would you guys also recommend the competition firing pin kit to go with the new hammer? Edited August 26, 2014 by acpie360
MWP
Yes, even if you aren't using the hammer the pin is excellent for a lightened action and federal primers.

bountyhunter
I'm sure you already know this, but the hammer alone will not make your trigger pull lighter.True. The reduced mass hammer delivers more strike energy for a given amount of mainspring force so you can dial down the mainspring and still have proper ignition. And also, as mainspring force is reduced, you can reduce the rebound side spring force which is a large contributor to DA pull weight.

bountyhunter
You should definitely be able to dial the DA pull down, my guess would be under 4# with the reduced mass hammer if you tune the springs as low as they will go and polish all the relevant places. I had my old 686 dialed down to 5# with the stock hammer (comp ammo only), so you should be able to get significantly lower.
acpie360
The Apex extended firing pin also comes with a reduced power firing pin spring. Is this spring crucial to the proper operation? The reason I am asking is that I don't see other extended firing pin vendors mention reduced power firing pin spring on their online stores.
