ErikW
Somewhere, somebody made a concealed-carry "chest holster" that's ideal for dirt bike riding. It did not look like a holster or gun-shaped; it was more or less square. Black nylon. Anybody have a model name or manufacturer?
SVI4ME
Man Erik, You fall with a chest holster on you'll be meeting face to face with CSI, Reno !!
EricW
I heard Blackhawk makes one like you describe. Unless you're in a state/national park where guns are verboten, who cares if someone sees your gun out in the sticks? We just go with shoulder holsters or open carry around here. Is this the one? Vince Pinto
You can also get a chest holster from Paul Evers at Holsters International in the UK if you prefer leather.
MikeyG23
Try The Wilderness, as in Wilderness Instructor belts. Seems like they make something that is a "chest" holster.
rhino
The SafePacker is pretty versatile too. You can wear it on your belt or over a shoulder or whatever. It just looks like a nylon carry bag.
ErikW
I found a couple... Um, doesn't that thing point the muzzle at your noggin when it's sealed up? I mean, I trust the Glock Safe Action and all, but geez. Open carry would expose the gun to horrific dust, sand, and mud. And it just plain freaks people out. And I'm not sure what the BLM thinks of it.
EricW
And I'm not sure what the BLM thinks of it. What's weird is I open carry hiking, paddling, and hunting and so far no one's even commented much less cared - not what I expected. Unless otherwised posted, guns and shooting are completely legal on BLM land. I hunt on BLM ground all the time.

ErikW
Actually, I'm going to loop it into the front of my plastic body armor (chest protector). My Camelbak is already looped into the back.
kimel
Earth to Erik: You live in America now. BLM isn't going to give a tinker's dam about open carry. You are far more likely to be engaged in a discussion of what you are carrying than given grief FOR carrying. I thought Glocks were impervious to horrific dust, sand and mud? Or are you planing carrying something other than a Glock? A buddy of mine in S. Idaho was looking for a way to carry while mountain/trail biking as the Boise Valley area isn't nearly as gun friendly as it was when I was growing up down there yet violent crime is way up (gee...go figure!). I sent him the link for the Safe Packer at Wilderness Tactical and he is now using one. Not sure how/where it is attached to his body but he gave it high marks. Duane Thomas
A silly question perhaps, but why not just carry the gun in a standard concealment-type belt holster?
ErikW
Look, the only way it's going to work is attached to the front of my chest protector. I've got a full Camelbak on the back and a fanny pack on my waist. A gun on my hip would restrict mobility and I tend to crash on my hips. Strangely enough, The Wilderness site freezes my browser, whether scripting is on or off. Even stranger are the porn hits from Googling "Safe Packer." <shudder>
tightloop
Why don't you do like Tommy Campbell did years ago, and just make one...he called it his sternum holster..used it at the Natls in 1980...and the following World Shoot....
Vince Pinto
Eric, Have you considered an SOB holster? Probably more comfortable having one under your rear protector than the front.
diehli
Eric,Have you considered an SOB holster? Probably more comfortable having one under your rear protector than the front. That'd probably be REAL bad news in a fall from a dirt bike at speed.
kimel
330#: well spoken! Anyone that has ever fallen carrying anything SOB will never do it again. I used to carry a radio SOB. One day I slipped on wet stairs (whatever idiot though vinyl covering on a staircase without any traction aids was a good idea should be hung). I came down on the radio which miraculously survived other than a crushed battery pack. But I brusied my spine badly enough that I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life in a wheel chair. By the time the ambulance got there the feeling was returning to my feet and lower extremities but is was a good month before I felt normal. Steve Moneypenny
thigh rig.. .neat idea.. they don't stay in place well though hiking.. i can't imagine where it would end up on my dirt bike... why not a fanny pack attached to the chest protector? should be rather simple... i carry in a galco belt bag whatever it's called quite frequently. The Bianchi military flap holster with the chest harness would work nicely. You can rig it to put the gun just about anyplace on your chest or even under your arm if you like. The flap is very secure, and you can probably put the thumb snap on underneath it too.

I'll have you know I now weigh under 330#s, thankyouverymuch. That sounds painful as hell. Anyone that's slammed into a doorknob has only a small idea what it feels like. ErikW
EricW, haha! But anything protruding will get stripped off, unless it's securely strapped to me, in which case it will take me off with it. Bianchi flap, great idea, but it screams "GUN!" SOB, bad idea. Steve, fanny pack on the chest, now that's an idea! ong45 mentioned today getting one of the ski patrol chest packs. That's something to consider. rhino
Sounds like the Wilderness SafePacker may be your best bet. You could even mount it on your bike. Or ideally, mount one on your chest AND one on your bike. Two are better than one.
Kimberkid
yea, Rhino, 2 are better than 1, but ya know whats better than 2?? 2 on your belt, airweight in the glove box and an AR in the trunk....
rhino
Amen, li'l brother! AMEN! Actually, Mr. Warren could probably do a superlight AR in one of those rectangular "low profile" cases rigged to his camel back.
