  1. I assisted county on a drunk call one night and the drunk got beligerent after being cuffed and went into passive resistance. The deputy told him he was about to get sprayed and the dumb *ss says "Go ahead, I eat that sh*t for breakfast". About a 1 second burst straight into his eyes and he got compliant but very vocal quick!! I was told the 3-4% thing in academy but the only thing I can testify to is that I'm not in it.

    Cracked Slide

Not that uncommon a problem especially if your gun is a Gen 1 or Gen 2. Glock will replace it.
  3. Silly me but it would seem that having L10 / Production / Revolver at one match and Limited and Open at another would make the most sense.....But then what do I know?
  4. I don't shoot open so I don't know
  5. I've bushing Eagles in both. Love the .40 for versatility but I bought the 9mm after the .40 because it's nice to be able to go buy ammo and shoot. With bullet prices on the rise the 9mm makes sense for an ESP only gun. OTH if you even think you want to shoot USPSA get the .40. My STI mags for the 9mm have been flawless except for a single instance where the follower bound on the spacer strip. I stripped the mag after the match and checked for burrs on both, found a couple, and removed them and it's flawless since. .40 minor versus 9mm recoil is an issue for me as well. The minor .40 recoil pulse to me is very slow and screws with my timing. I shot my .40 at about a 150 PF when I was shooting IDPA with it, in fact I even shot a few matches with major PF ammo and didn't seem to do appreciably better or worse because of it. The 9mm is a little "quicker" or seems shorter to me at least.
  6. A little tip from a LE Identity Theft class I just took....never sign the back of credit cards, if they get lost or stolen anyone has the keys to your kingdom. The "I.D. Required" or something similar in the signature space is the recommended procedure. Another thing that most people don't think about is don't carry your Social Security card in your wallet, lock it up somewhere safe. Lose your wallet with DL and SS card in it and someone will merrily use your ID and put you into places financially you do not want to be. Can you get it all straightened out ?? Probably but only with great effort and anguish.
  7. Any sanctioned IDPA club should have an "official" box, as I recall they give you one with all the other club materials when you join as a club.
  8. The STI logo on the slide doesn't look quite right either. Could be the camera / flash angle but the Texas doesn't look correctly proportioned and the "STI" in the Texas doesn't look quite right.
  9. I can't speak for major matches as I haven't shot any this year but so far locally the new rule book has had little effect on how matches are run. We've had a fair number of shooters start shooting USPSA in addition to IDPA but for the most part they are doing it in addition to the local IDPA matches. The prevailing train of thought is that most everyone traveling to shoot major matches are shooting USPSA and not IDPA "on the road". I intended to shoot some of the larger IDPA matches this year but decided not to after the new rules went into effect, next year could be different based on what happens the rest of this year including Nationals. OTOH USPSA is alot more "bang for the buck" and that may be where I decide to spend my travel dollars as well. I do know that once I started shooting again and quit b*tching about the new rules life seemed alot brighter
  10. I started this thread earlier this year and had pretty much forgotten about it until I got a posting notification. I went Dawson on both my 140's for USPSA and also set-up some 126's with Dawson's wedge pads for IDPA. Love 'em both !! The pads for the 140's installed with no sweat and are great for stages where you are dropping mags in the dust and dirt. The wedge pads were a little more challenging in that they had interference issues with the SV magwell on my STI which prevented the mags from locking up properly. About 5 minutes worth of grinding and polishing and that problem went away along with the nice blue anodized color on the angled flats that were interfering. I bought a 9mm Eagle to shoot IDPA with and decided to use the same set-up, SV magwell and Dawson wedge pads and went with the plain, aluminum pads so that when I fitted them they wouldn't have bare areas visible on them (call me anal). Well, to my surprise, all 6 of the 9mm mags locked up with no fitting required.... Dawson is great to deal with and makes a great product. I recommend them highly.
  11. We've got one that's "local" at Johnson County Shooting Sports Association, Waco is 60-90 minutes away depending on where you live and Double Tap is up at Wichita Falls which is 2 hrs +- again depending on where you live in the MetroMess. On the other hand you can shoot IDPA 2-3 times a week most weeks both indoor and outdoor.
  12. He's kinda tongue-in-cheek about the whole thing but we are a small department, 5 regulars and 5 reserves, and 3 of us shoot competitive anyway so it may not be that unworkable.
  13. And that is exactly the purpose. My Sgt. is talking about making this particular match mandatory for all officers who are off-duty.
  14. One more war story and I'll quit before I get spanked for thread drift. The same guy from the other story and I were working one of the Market Hall gun shows in Dallas and this was back in the days when Market Hall didn't shut down until 7:00 PM on Saturday which meant that at certain times of the year it was darker than h*ll when you left after the show closed. The shop I worked for was owned by a couple and in those days the owner would take a couple of guys and go to Houston to the AstroHall show and leave the other guy and I with his wife to do the Market Hall show. This particular night the owner had a large amount of cash on her as was typical after a good day and in those days before Texas had the CHL law we carried anyway due to the cash. We covered the tables and started out right at 7:00, there were still a few customers milling around but no real buyers. The other guy took point and I brought up the rear with the money lady between us. As we headed to the door I see 2 guys look at us hard and start moving parallel to us down another aisle. We go out a side door and I think that's that, WRONG. As we go out I see the pair that had been moving with us already in the parking lot looking back towards the side door we went out. We always parked together so that when we left we were all in a group so we start towards where we were all parked and the pair falls in behind us for a few steps and then splits up and flanks us on either side. The hair on the back of my neck goes straight up !! I get the other guys attention and even though he can't tell what has my attention he knows something does. We get to the lady's vehicle and I turn around with my Glock already in my hand, held down to the side of my leg. The 2 guys see it and without a word to each other peel off and go the other way. I quit shaking about midnight....
  15. I worked P/T in one of the local shops for several years. One day there was only myself and one other guy working the shop along with the cashier. Both the other guy and I were armed, I had a Glock 23 and he had a G19 IIRC, the cashier was unarmed. An unsavory looking "customer" walks in the door with his hand underneath an untucked shirt and starts walking very quickly to where the other guy and I are standing. The guy I was working with practices faithfully 200+ rounds per week and is NOT a competition shooter of any kind, he works on tactics and shooting from odd positions including alot of strong hand / weak hand and if I knew I was going to a gunfight he is one of a short list of people I would want to go with me....anyway, this guy walks rapidly towards where we are standing at the back of the store. I look over and my buddy's eyes are all white from where I'm at, I look and he has that Glock 3/4 of the way out of the holster and is staring at this "customer" like a hawk watching a mouse. This guy keeps coming with his hand digging under his shirt and about the time I'm figuring there's fixing to be alot of loud noise he stops and says "Man my back itches". You could have heard a pin drop. The guy asked directions to somewhere nearby and left. Did he have bad intentions ?? I don't know but I do know he came real close to getting shot and probably never realized it...or maybe he did
  16. Try 4.2 of Titegroup with your current bullet. I have shot several thousand rounds of this using Rainier and Zero bullets through a G17 and G34 and it shot POA = POI. The PF is pretty high for a 9mm but if there is steel involved that's a good thing, felt recoil seemed less than 115 gr factory.
  17. OOPS, guess I should have made the same statement
  18. www.comp-tac.com They can't be beat for delivery, price, and customer service.
  19. Post up some pics when you get 'er built, you always seem to have some of the best gun porn
  20. Can't tell what mag well it has for sure but it looks like an STI, if so it will not fit the box without machine work. SVI mag wells will fit the box and your preferred Kreb's looks like it will. Weight would be the only other issue I would worry about, without weighing it I wouldn't guess. The slide cuts might or might not pass muster depending on who you ask, if it were me (and it's not) I'd leave them off. I've got bushing Eagles in both .40 & 9mm with SV magwells that I shoot, no problem with weight or box. I like the looks of your gun alot though !!

  22. You have hit on one of the reasons I just bought an STI in 9mm for IDPA. I love my Eagle in .40 but with 9mm ammo at an all time low it is easier (and cheaper) to buy 9mm. I have a 1050 that was originally bought to load 9mm, after 5 years I doubt it has loaded over 10,000 rounds and has since been converted to .40, notice I said it loaded less than 10K, I shot more than I loaded during this time frame and most of it was factory...... My favorite 9mm load is (was) 4.2 of Titegroup with a 124 gr bullet. It's soft and accurate out of every gun we have tried it out of but I don't know if there is a real rather than perceived advantage to using it. You pay your money and take your chances but for me at least factory 9mm is just fine
  23. Glad you're feeling better and don't worry about the tear down, we had plenty of help.
  24. Chases look like great fun when you're watching them on TV, after your involved in one they lose all their alure. And yes, the adrenaline dump is something that has to be experienced to believe.
