S391
Columbia makes lots of hats for hot weather, i used a couple last year and they work great. http://www.columbia.com/Men%27s-Coolhead™-Ball-Cap/CM9791,default,pd.html just one example I wear a Columbia Bora Bora booney II hat in the summer. It is ventilated so it allows air to circulate and the wide brim keeps my head, neck and ears from getting sunburned. http://www.columbia.com/Bora-Bora%E2%84%A2-Booney-II/CU9107,default,pd.html

Skydiver
I must have been reading more into the original post. I thought that Tom was looking for cool headgear that was compatible with ear muffs. That or the thread has drifted sufficiently away from the the original post, and people are just offering suggestions for cool headgear in general without any particular constraints. StephenG
You can wear a boonie type hat with ear muffs. I do it all the time. The sides just fold up on the side. The muffs fit right over them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
StephenG
FWIW I like this arrangement better than a cap. You get sun coverage in the rear as well as the front. When you pull the muffs up on your head you get the benefit of the full brim coverage. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
DarthMuffin
I am looking for something compatible with muffs. Doesn't have to be a ball cap, I'm open-minded but I don't see how anything else would work. The Rudy Project hat still looks best to me, but I just ordered one of the Arc'teryx Baller Ass Caps (I was scared to google that) because I had a gift cert for amazon. Still not white, but looks light enough. *cross fingers* If I don't find a solution I like this season, I may just ante-up to a pair of amplified custom earplugs next year. I do a lot of RO-ing so plain earplugs aren't an option I feel comfortable with, safety-wise. Plus, talking to your buddies is half the fun of a shooting match

waktasz
I started wearing this hat from Outdoor Research this year to try to keep the sun off my neck and face as much as I can. At first I thought it wasn't really my style but I like it now. Edited May 4, 2012 by waktasz

Outbreak
A bit late to the party but Underarmour makes a ball cap that wicks nicely, breathes and doesn't let light through. Wide range of colors. I have two.
theycallmeingot
don't lie. you wear boonie hats because you think they look cool. NOT because of the perceived sun protection. otherwise, we'd all be wearing these. http://www.columbia.com/Bug-Me-Not%E2%84%A2-Chachalot/CU9039,default,pd.html

theycallmeingot
i'm an off and on hat person. recently, it's been an off couple of months. but after reading about the Columbia hat, I had to try one. I work in agriculture, and it's not like me to pay for a hat, when I have so many free ones. You're all enablers!

Neomet
The thing here in the desert with the sun behind you at most matches it is not only the top of the head but the back of the neck. The only thing I have found that works so far is a cowboy hat but beyond the huge fashion fau pas, that is a no-go with muffs. The search continues.....
