BRM3G 2012 -- Moving to the third weekend in October

Recommended Posts

Spending a weekend at "The Rock", working with great RO's, the Horner's, MD, the stages, physical challenges, shooting challenges, beautiful location, shooting with Squad #5, all made for some excellent memories.

My favorite? I got to shoot with my oldest son, my youngest son, and my daughter-in-law. It truely doesn't get any better than that!!

Many thanks to Andy and the RO staff for all their hard work, you all did a fantastic job.

A great match that tested your abilities and was full of fun.

The most awesome part for me was on our very last stage of the match and getting to watch my wife shoot her first ever stage win at a major match on stage 2 shooting TI. I can't think of a better way to wrap up the season!

This was my first Blue Ridge experience. Now I understand when people say "its not like any other match"!! :roflol: Overall, I had a great time and hope to be back next year for it. Shooting all 3 guns on every stage is cool and I've never shot stages that took so long to shoot, even on a good run. 2+ minutes of moving and shooting is awesome! I even managed to turn in a couple good runs myself up with the big boys.

Thanks to everyone involved in making a monster match like this run so smoothly!! Job well done

First of all, the 2012 Blue Ridge Mountain 3-gun Championship would like to send a big thank you to our title sponsors DPMS and Bushnell, and all our other great sponsors for supporting the match. Check out their links on the BRM3G Sponsor Page, and buy your products from these companies!

Due to miscommunication between me and stats, the High Lady, High Junior and High LEO named at the match were incorrect. The category champions are based on the percent finish in the divisions in which they compete. Therefore, the High Lady and High Junior is Katie Harris. High Military is Daniel Horner, High Senior is Jerry Miculek, and High LEO is Kuan Watson. Congratulations to all of these competitors.

Links to the photos taken at the match will be up soon on the BRM3G website and here. They will include photos from the Task Force Dagger Foundation auction, raffle and side shoot, where a total of $14, 555 was raised. Thanks to all the competitors who participated in these events! We were honored to have two wounded soldiers from the Task Force Dagger Foundation shooting team compete this year.

Thanks again to all the staff. A special thanks to Brett Parker, who HAS BEEN with BRM3G for all five years! With the demanding stages, I am amazed and pleased that so many of the ROs return year after year!

I will be getting updates on the BRM3G website in a few days. The internet connections I have had available thus far have not handled uploading to the website very well.

Take care and be planning for Oct 17-19, 2013!!

Andy

For the Dutchguy from squad 1, when you took your tumble down the field I was amazed by the muzzle awareness and trigger finger placement(not on the trigger). I feel bad that you got hurt on my stage, but you handled the gun better than I've ever seen while falling!

Last update on this: checked in at the hospital on my arrival back in the Netherlands. I have a fracture in the ttop of my ankle and now have a cast around my lower left leg. I just can't believe I shot two days of this match with a broken ankle... Guess Ductape can really be used for all kinds of purposes, including taping an ankle ;) 2 to 4 weeks recovery.

HELL! I WOULD DO IT AGAIN IF NEEDED!!!

Ok all you guys that stayed away really did miss out on this one. Was it a hard match , <_< not really, I am 56 years old and I had a little bit of Gas left over on every stage. I could have should have pushed harder.

I thought real hard on something less than faltering to say about the match, cuszz I know some people like dirt.

<_< OK #1 stage 4&5 could have had More No Shoot targets = causing the shooter to duck and weave. But they possibly were better off the way they were.

Stage 2 could have been re-numbered to #5 so that the long range stages were not on the same day for some of the shooters = one long range stages (#2 & #3 on two separate days. Not a biggy just something to be picky about. ;)

The Trees looked too nice with the color change, some of us got in trouble with our wives for 'sight seeing'

The Prize table was way too good , now I am spoiled and will measure the "Desert Tray" at other matched to BRM.

Getting close in score on some stages to the best in the world, under that kind of conditions is very satisfying.

Thanks

Thomas I enjoyed shooting with you. For those of you that don't know, Thomas went down hard while shooting pistol. Amazingly he went down with a Viagra index finger and was very safe. He later Ductaped his shoe/ankle and finished all the stages. I vote man-up award for Thomas!

I am finally getting around to using the net again after the match. What a great time. I loved all the stages. The wind was a little strong, 18mph cross for shooting stage 3 but thats life. Fall colors were awesome. My squad was great. I saw some people do wicked cool things, Like the squad ahead of us on stage 7 when Joes sling broke and he held his shotgun sling in his mouth while finishing the stage with handgun. I just had an awsome time. I am going to have to Vote that Andrew on Stage 7 as the hardest working RO at the match. Not taking anything away the other RO's, Great group of RO's, you all did a great Job, Thank You. Thanks to the Andy, his staff and all the match sponsors.

Sorry I’m so late to post here, but it took me a week to catch up on work. First off as this was my first trip to Rockcastle and my first BRM3G I want to say this was the best competitive shooting experience I’ve encountered to date. The facility and hospitality at Rockcastle was phenomenal and the staff that ran the match was second to none that I’ve seen in my limited experience to 3-gun competition. Huge thanks to Andy, Tammi, Mike, Bret and all the RO’s that put their heart and souls into making this match making it a huge success. To the CRO’s on every stage that made it a point to help shooters succeed, you’re all superstars in my book. Thank you all for your time and effort to make this match as awesome as it was. Great job by the Practiscore crew for setting up the scoring, it would have been a challenge to say the least to do this all on paper. Also a big thanks to Tim at TACCOM for letting me tag along to the match, hope we can do it again.

Additional props go the RO’s on stages 6 and 7. For the guys on 6 that had to run up that hill time and time again, Sorry I can’t remember your names, but hats off to ya…that was work. To Brian, Brian and Andrew on stage 7. As soon as we saw this stage on Wednesday we were predicting a disaster with that much paper to score and steel to reset. I don’t even have words to describe how hard you guys worked to keep things on schedule. If there was a brass balls award that went to the RO’s you guys get it. These guys were basically doing wind sprints all day long for 3 days straight.

To the almost all MN crew on squad 18, you guys rocked it as usual. Coming off the reserve list I had no idea whom I would be shooting with, but I was happy to see a lot of familiar faces and as always I think I was shooting with some of the hardest re-setters in the game. Congrats my MN squad mates that smoked it at this match. Most notably was Jay who took 1st in Tac-Limited and Jomar who took 3rd in Heavy metal.

Then there was the prize table……Holy crap!!! I don’t go to these matches for the prize table, because I suck, but this was beyond impressive. I believe I finished 102nd in tac-ops and still took home over $400 in winnings. I couldn’t have gone home happier. Huge thanks to all the sponsors and thanks to JP this will be the last match I shoot with the sub-par RRA 2 stage NM trigger that’s in my 3-gun rifle now.

All that aside I would give just about anything to re-shoot stages 2&3 again, just for my own self-satisfaction. Out of all the stages at this match, I was really looking to the long range stages as a place to catch up with a lot more experienced 3-gunners. Coming from a benchrest and F-class background hitting a 10” plate at 400 yards is generally not that difficult of a shot. Unfortunately I had a slight mishap packing my gear out to the truck Friday morning; I had a buckle give way on my drag bag and firmly introduced my rifle to the concrete parking lot. At first I thought it should be fine, but it wasn’t. After getting totally jacked on the long range targets two stages in a row we headed back to the zero range and sure as hell my zero had shifted 4MOA low and 2MOA left. Here’s the picture of my 100yd target from the zero range. The first group low and left was what I got when I was aiming for the center target. After going 8 clicks up and 4 click left my second group printed right on POA. Even after the drop my MTAC tracked perfectly, making me think something in the Burris PEPR mount shifted (which is soon to be replaced). Third group in the upper left target was just to confirm I was back on track. Not my best groups but cut me some slack I was laying prone in the mud mono-poding off the mag. I should have known better and headed straight to the zero range after I was done shooting stage 2, but I didn’t want to slow the squad down. Oh well I say….. there aint no cryin in 3-gun…..Live and learn.

About the only suggestion I can make to improve the match would have been to use 42” poppers instead of paper for the buckshot targets on stage #6. Taping all those holes got to be a slow process. Also replacing any paper slug targets between squads would have been a nice touch.

All that said I can’t wait to back next year. Keep it at the end of October and this match will be my annual birthday present to myself. Hope to see you all again soon.

Hi Folks,

There is another correction to the LEO winner list from the DPMS-Bushnell BRM3G. Jay Schmidt and Kuan Watson both won their divisions and are both being recognized as the High LEOs for 2012. Congratulation to Jay and Kuan, Katie Harris as High Lady and High Junior, Daniel Horner as High Military, and Jerry Miculek as High Senior.

If you participated in the match, please send a note/email of thanks to the sponsors who donated products for the prize table and for use during the match. They are listed on the BRM3G Sponsor Page and would like to hear from you. There are lots of sponsors who supported the match, and most support several other matches across the country. Let them know we appreciate it! You will find links to their websites on the BRM3G Sponsor Page.

The Task Force Dagger raffle, side shoot, and auction were a great success thanks to all those who participated and David Power’s talent as an auctioneer! We are going to drag him back for a repeat performance next year. DPMS, Bushnell, JP Enterprises, Adams Arms, Davidson’s, Leupold, Remington Defense, Galco Gunleather, Primm Springs Wildlife, Georgia Wild Hog Hunts, Hear-Pro, and Brett Woodard Knife Maker, contributed items for the auction, and most also supported the match prize table. Because of your participation in purchasing raffle tickets and bidding in the auction, TFD is receiving $14,555 to aid soldiers and their families like Michael and Brian who shot with us this year.

Jamie – Good idea on the long range stages. That would even out the weather effects.

Chris – The buckshot stage had some design changes once we were putting it on the ground. If we have a buckshot stage next year (I want to do it “right” one time!), expect to start the stage with buckshot, shoot longer distances, have at least one no-shoot per target, and then get your pistol and rifle shooting.

Many thanks to Adam at DPMS, Tom at Bushnell, all the other Sponsors, the competitors, ROs, RMs, and Stats for supporting the match!!

Take care,

Andy

The 2013 BRM3G will be held October 17-19. DPMS is our title sponsor, and most of our sponsors have indicated they will continue to support the match and 3-gunning in general. Check out the 2012 match sponsors on the BRM3G wesite!! Buy your gear from those who are involved with our sport!!

Applications will be posted on the match website sometime in early April. As usual, those who have participated in the match before will have a few days to get their applications in before the process opens up to new shooters. Each year plenty of new folks get into the match, but once the applications are out, don't waste a lot of time getting them sent in.

Take care, and take time to support the Second Amendment,

Andy
