Sean Gaines
This is one of the hardest polls I have had to take, because there are so many guitarist that I like. What is your choice. Sorry if yours wasn't mentioned, I only had 16 choices. Edited January 29, 2011 by Sean Gaines
HS101
There are a lot of great choices on the list. However, Vai got my vote. He is amazing, and can do things with a guitar that few, if any other people, can do... There are a lot of innovative guitarist on the list... Hendrix, Rhodes, Van Halen, as well as amazing players like Vaughn, Hammet, Clapton... Wish I could vote for 2 or 3.
Powder Finger
Not going to vote (too difficult to choose) but with some of the names on the list I think it should include Robin Trower.
centermass
SRV... FYI, it's Vaughan and Townshend
Jman
Good list. Can't pick a "best of" out of them. Eddie to me is the most distinctive. Jim
Merlin Orr
Hard choices... Carlos Santana...... just for my tastes,,,,,
Sean Gaines
This is a hard poll!!!! I went with Randy Rhodes. His solos were great and influenced Zack Wylde(whom I think is the baddest guitarist with an attitude)sorry for the typos on the names. Here is some solos of Randy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVJKlOkrgt0
Sarge
I voted for Angus. Having seen him play adds another dimension to it for me. For the Record Ted Nugent plays a pretty good lick as well.
Sarge
Here is one for some of you old time rockers. Some of the best guitar I have ever heard was on an album by the "Tubes" in the 80's. That album was "The completion backwards principle" if I recall. Anyone know of it and who played that guitar?
Pro2AInPA
I couldn't bring myself to vote for any of those 16, as none are anywhere near the best of all time in my eyes.

Pro2AInPA
The problem is that there's no such thing as the "best". There are so many different styles. Are we talking raw talent, feel, technicality, etc? With all of that said, here are a few that come to mind: David Gilmour (The second solo in Comfortably Numb is the greatest thing I've ever heard) Mark Knopfler John Petrucci Brian May

Graham Smith
Slash. And herein lies the rub with the question... Slash is certainly in the top 20 rock guitarists list, but he's also a very good flamenco guitarist. Beck is as good at jazz and blues as he is at rock. Clapton plays great acoustic ballads and has played with so many diverse groups (like the Jazz Crusaders) that there almost nothing he's not good at. If it comes down to pure rock innovation, it almost has to be Hendrix, but if you broaden the scope just a bit, it's nearly impossible. These guys are all great in their own right in so many different genres that it's just tough to choose. Sean Gaines
hey guys, I could have named another 50 guitarist!!!I thought of David Gilmour and slash,it was tough leaving them out. Also, I was trying to keep the soloist out of the mix, and moreso rock bands.
