  1. I've been shooting production for quite a while now and am thinking of getting into limited. I couldn't find any info using search. I am hoping for opinions regarding the competitive capabilities of the witness limited vs the sti's. I am trying to take into account tunability, reliability, ease of maintenance, price, availability of factory and aftermarket parts along with the general accuracy, recoil control and general application in limited.
  2. Remington 115's and Blazer 124's both grouped well in my Pro, inside 3" at 25 yards regularly. The Remingtons shot softer at 129-133 pf depending on lot and the blazer's usually over 135.
  3. I've handled a stock II with a proper race trigger and it was really nice! Right at 5 lbs for double action and 2 for single. With the weight and trigger it should really rock!
  4. I'm in the process of testing that right now. Been shooting Glocks for years with different triggers (vanek, carver), and they have been really good. But I am shooting a friends M&P with a trigger from a local smith and it is AMAZING! The difference is night and day with the S&W so far ahead that I am actually going to have to switch over. The pull weight is far lighter, the break is way cleaner, the pre-travel is so much less and the overall trigger movement is much shorter. And that is compared to really good Glock triggers! The RAM is absolutely mandatory, without it the pull was great, but I couldn't feel the reset at all-very difficult to shoot well.

    Gen3 or Gen4?

I honestly don't get it. I hear about all kinds of problems with the Gen 4's and I know that most aren't making stuff up. But, I have a gen 4 17 and 35 that have been flawless-they run no matter what I do, all parts are interchangeable except the trigger housing, I have gen 3 trigger kits in both that run perfectly and feel as good as when they were in gen 3 guns. I did change the recoil spring assembly in the 35 to run minor, altho it ran fine with the stock springs. I do really like the smaller grip and it does have a much better texture. I am also in a position to view a great many stock gen 4s at work (RO at major metro PD)and they are also working well. Practice ammo there is blazer 124 grn which must be hot enuf to avoid spring problems? +p duty stuff is also obviously hot enuf. Short story-I have had good luck with the gen 4's. Strangely enuf I use a lone wolf 9mm conversion barrel for practice that did not work at all well in the gen 3 35 that I had, but runs very well in the gen 4.
  6. I had much the same problem although with other primers. Turned out that the striker channel liner had cracked and the striker was running thru the channel at an angle. This chipped the tip off of the striker which made it short and caused the light strikes. Happened to two strikers before my trigger guy (Bobby Carver) figured it out. So check the tip of your striker.
  7. Are the safeties still working? The mods discussed would seem to negate the plunger safety and the drop safety. The gun then would obviously be illegal for Production and more than a little dangerous. Also, the Glockworx' Production trigger is not Production legal-the trigger safety tab has been trimmed and is an external mod. This has been discussed extensively if you want to do a search.
  8. I've been shooting a Gen4 35 for a while now and have tried different springs. Believe it or not, I preferred the stock spring over tungsten rods and 13-15 lb springs. The gun felt softer and flatter. I was actually quite surprised, I figured that the conventional springs would be better, but it didn't seem like it.
  9. I have the Glockworx reducer bushing and it works perfectly. It is an easy $10 fix for short stroking problems. I have, however, had good luck with the stock 012 spring and minor 40 in my Glock 35.

    Glock 24

They are out there. I just bought one from an Ace Hardware in Iowa, you just have to keep an eye open! And it has been working great in limited.
  11. My experience has not been the same as hankfan's. A 40 extractor has worked the best. A 9 extractor has not been as positive for me. It would probably be a good idea to use a 9 ejector so you don't need a new housing just the ejector.
  12. I happen to have a gen4 35 with a Lone Wolf 9mm coversion barrel and it runs great. Have about 5k rounds thru it now and it has run 100% but it did need the lighter 012 recoil spring for the lighter 9mm loads.
  13. Glockworx has a magwell for a 4th gen-have one on my Glock 35 that is nice. 3rd gen triggers work great in Gen 4's (use 4th gen trigger housing of course).

    New Glock 17

LPatterson, on 08 March 2011 - 08:35 AM, said: Be advised that nothing you do to the Gen 4 trigger will make it feel like a Gen 3 trigger. For some reason molded the trigger housing differently adding an extra 5 degrees to the angle of the connector. This makes a Glock 4.5# connector into about a 6.5-7.0# connector. Big thread on GlockTalk about this. Actually that is not true. A gen 4 gun's trigger feels exactly like a gen 3 trigger when you put in a 3rd gen trigger bar. The new trigger housing has the same connector angles as the gen 3's. Apparently, the rotten trigger in the gen 4's is due to a difference in the new trigger bar not the housing. I have 3rd gen Bobby Carver UL (best on the market btw)triggers(with 4th gen housings)in two 4th gen guns and they feel awesome! In fact, Carver and Vanek use 3rd gen tigger bars in their 4th gen trigger kits. Also I put the Glocktrigger in gen 3 and gen 4 guns and I can state with near 100% certainty that they polished the parts and that is it! The feel is identical to a stock trigger with lighter springs-no other work has been done-not impressive and a complete waste of money. Course they are packaged nicely
  16. I am shooting minor 40's in my 35 and it was ejecting pretty lightly with the "01" spring in it. I'm using the lighter "012" spring and that is working well. Your other option would be to get a recoil spring or adaptor from Jager or Glockworx and run a lighter standard spring.

    G35s for sale?

Moving to Glock 24 is also a step up I feel when shooting limited, and one of the reasons I sold my 3rd gen 35 (well, that and a gen 4 35). I find the 24 to be clearly softer shooting, especially with the softer loads that the longer barrel makes possible. I like the longer sight radius; my long shots are more accurate and I find it easier to index on closer targets. The 35 is good for limited, but it absolutely rocks for Production!
  18. My Gen4 35 also fits perfectly in the bladetech DOH. The back of the holster is open and adjustable by screw and does not interfere with the larger dustcover.
  19. Actually, there is a little difference. The front sight on the ones I have seen is held in by a screw, not the pin wedge.
  20. I'm just a little worried about knocking the gun out of the front of the holster. Has anybody tried one yet?
  21. Spanky, I was hoping to use the trigger for competition and GW has stated that many shooters have used them at the Nationals for the last 3 years. Like others have said though, it's not worth the chance of Open.
  22. I am getting ready to shoot the Nationals and I got a Glockworx standard trigger (billed as Production legal). I was concerned about the legality since the trigger safety is obviously shaved. I have read other posts where the makers of the trigger claimed that they had received rulings from John Amidon that the triggers were legal. I wrote to Mr. Amidon with the question of legality of this specific trigger and he was good enough to send me this reply. I may be wrong, but the way I read it, the Glockworx trigger can not be legal since the external part of the trigger is no longer original factory. I hope this helps other shooters who may be in danger of being bumped to Open from Production. According to the rules for Production currently in the rule book posted on the web site, the following pertains to your question: 21.6 Exchange of minor EXTERNAL components Sights, firing pins, firing pin retainers, extractors and ejectors MAY be replaced with OEM or aftermarket parts. Any other components which are externally visible may ONLY be replaced with OEM parts which are offered on the specific model of gun or another approved gun from the same manufacturer except as specifically clarified below. Examples of external components which may only be replaced with OEM parts include (but are not limited to): magazine releases, slide stops, thumb safeties and triggers. What that means, is that internal parts of the trigger may be replaced, but the external part of the trigger itself, must be original factory. Hope this helps. Regards, John Amidon
  23. My results with Solo 1000 and 124 grn MG's were quite a bit different than what I expected too. From a Glock 17 (2 actually), I need 4.9 grn's to make 130pf. I was concerned and double checked everything-loaded another batch, used 2 guns, checked powder charge on two scales, OAL @ 1.125, two different chrono's, different days but still the same results. Not worried tho, no pressure signs, consistent ES, linear increases with increased charges. The loads are accurate, shoot softly and don't smoke. I need 4.1 grns to make 130pf with 147 MG's. Same procedure as developing 124 grn loads. Feel the same as buddies 3.8 solo for same pf.
  24. Our LE dealer got 7 of them last week. The guys I work with grabbed 4. Just to add a little-a regular 3rd gen trigger bar improved the pull to regular 3rd gen performance.
  25. We have several 4th gen glock 17s to play with now. Obviously they work well, BUT the triggers are abominable! On a scale the new triggers are 1.5 to 2 lbs heavier than 3rd gen's. A Glock 22 used by our factory rep was even worse. By feel, at least mine, they are far worse than that-a true mess of grinding, stacking horridness! Luckily, there seems to be an easy fix-a 3rd gen trigger bar. I put in a vanek and novak trigger bar with the proper striker and safety plunger springs and they both feel great-as good as they did in the 3rd gen's. I used the stock trigger housing, glock 3.5 connector and standard trigger spring. The 3rd gen trigger bars lack the bump on the striker safety tab that is on the 4th gen-not sure what that does, maybe just makes the pull horrible. I don't have many rounds through guns set up with the 3rd gen trigger bars yet, but they seem to be working well.
