Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. This thread is quite appropriate for me right now. I just lost a final section qualifier and the series on the last stage of the match due to a sticking mag in my 9L! I fired 4 rounds and started to reload, and the mag did not budge-at all! Had to use fingernails to finally get the stupid thing out-the small basepads are great for seating mags but are very hard to get a grip on. I have been shooting this gun for a while but apparently had not tested or come across occasion to need to drop a mag with a good number of rounds in it-they always drop free when empty or lightly loaded. So, next day I tested all 9 mags that I have-all dropped free empty, but would not drop free with more than 5 rounds. Each and every mag expanded too much to drop when loaded. I talked to Smith rep and was told to send gun in-might be a bad mold. Being a little impatient, I decided to work on it. The mags were sticking in the top 1/3 of the frame with no slide and no mag release installed. I couldn't see any flashing left inside and the wear on the mags was pretty uniform. I carefully filed and sanded the inside of the mag well until all mags dropped free. Gun functions perfectly like before and all mags now drop free! Took maybe 20 minutes.
  2. Some of my extended mags had the same problem-arredondo and dawson. The spring was sometimes getting stuck on the bottom edge of the inside of the magazine as it fed up. I rounded off the inside magazine edges. All work perfectly now!
  3. Trouble-my gun has about 4k thru it now. I'll keep an eye on it tho as round count rises. Buddies' pro has around twice that and it seems to be shooting pretty straight.
  4. After reading this thread, I wondered how the accuracy of the M&P could be as bad as has been reported and how it compared to other production guns. So yesterday, I used sandbags at 25 yards and compared M&P 9L and standard, glock 17 and 34, XD and a Beretta 92fs. I found that, basically, the groups were interchangable at 2-3" for each. In fact, the 9L gave the very best group at just under 2", although I think that is really because it has the best trigger of the bunch. I also think that all of the guns are actually capable of better as the more time I spent with each gun the better the groups for each became. I think I peaked at 2" with production guns. Factory Blazer was used for all groups.
  5. My shooting buds and I must be lucky. 2 9l's, 1 pro and 2 standards all group very well out to 25 yards. All will hold around 2-3" with most any load-factory blazer, UMC 115 grn, handloads with 124 and 147's loaded with solo and vv320 pf 130-140.
  6. Have one, don't like it much. Vanek and Bobby Carver triggers are better. Glockworx trigger just doesn't have a good feel- pretravel and posttravel are short enough, but the pull weight is just heavier than the other two. In fact, I have Glockworx "production legal" trigger with the stock plastic shoe that is actually quite a bit better than the Fulcrum.
  7. Mr. Hardy, Thanks so much for the info, it is exactly what I need. Do you recommend adjusting the tubes so that the follower doesn't tip over?
  8. Another vote for the 35. Shot 22 in ltd to start and moved to a 35 that worked better for the reasons mentioned.
  9. I have had this happen twice to me and I saw it happen to another shooter once. The magazine follower (new #9 followers in all and 3 seperate mags) got stuck on the release cuts as it fed the rounds up to the top of the mag and obviously failed to feed the rounds. After clearing the rounds out the mags continued to work perfectly after that and the condition could not be replicated in any of the mags. Ammo was all factory and I checked the lenghts. And the follower was definitely stuck not the ammo. Has anyone else had this happen?
  10. Yeah, I was just trying to compare the big sticks. Thanks guys!
  11. New to Open and just getting my gear set up for the season. My question to open shooters is how important is capacity in the 170mm mags? Is there much difference between 27 and 29 rounds when actually shooting stages? Is it worth the extra work and expense for those 2 rounds?
  12. I'm with twodownzero. I prefer the feel of 147's, but seem to shoot 115 124 and 147 the same really. Minor is minor afer all.

    Only ONE GLOCK

My favorite Glock is the 17 and 35
  14. I have used a lone wolf 9mm barrel in a 3rd gen and a 4th gen glock 35. The 3rd gen gun did not run well at all-a malfunction every 3 to 4 mags worth. The 4th gen worked quite well tho. I did the usual mods of 9mm mags, extractor and ejector on both. The 4th gen, however, was still not reliable enough to compete with. I would still get a malfunction every once in a while, but it was good for practice.
