  1. I'm going to Florida next week for the Open and was a curious how much of a change I'd see over the chrono. Seeing as there is still 2 feet of snow at the range here I did a test today. I loaded my match load of titegroup and 180Fmj's with an OAL of 1.14, and went out to the range. When I got there I loaded 2 mags and put them in a plastic bag and stuck them in the snow. I loaded 2 more mags and stuck them in my pants pocket. I also took the gun out and put it on the table to cool off right away before setting up the chrono and stuff. With everything cold and outside air temp of +5C the first string on 19 rounds gave: AVG Vel 968.7 SD 11.13 AVG ME 375.18 AVG PF 174.37 HI Vel 987 LO Vel 951 Max Dev 36 Then I had some practice time to get everything (including myself) warmed up. The second string of 17 rounds with everything warm gave: AVG Vel 957.0 SD 9.78 AVG ME 366.19 AVG PF 172.27 HI Vel 974 LO Vel 942 Max Dev 32 So I'm happy with that for the Florida match, but may just bump the load .1 for summertime matches up here where major is 170pf.
  2. How about nearby entertainment for my non-shooting girlfriend?
  3. Lots of cheap flights to vegas from all over the country.
  4. The important part is you knowing how fast YOU can make those hits at the varying distances. Having a .2 split at 25 yards is no good if the score is Alpha,Mike.
  5. The front strap works good, I actually took a little off it with sandpaper. I started in IPSC with a trojan, I knew I wanted a .45, read lots, asked lots of questions, just like you are doing. Most of the guys told me I would probably end up having more than one gun from STI so why not get started with them. I'm on STI # 2 and very happy with both.
  6. Great thread, I keep my dummy (no primer,no powder) rounds in a plastic bag on my desk with my dryfire timer, steve anderson book, and spreadsheet for times. I keep the mag loaded for dryfire drills and for reloads I use 2 mags. The one coming out of the belt is full and the one dropping out of the gun has one left in it (so that it's light).
  7. What's a good place close to frostproof for buying bulk .40?
  8. When I bought all my reloading stuff a couple years ago, a bought a bullet puller along with everything else. At some point the plastic nut that holds the round in the hammer was broken. I really didn't want to order another bullet puller and didn't see the nut on the site. So I called to see if I could buy one, they said "no you can't, what's your address?" A week later there's a package in the mail from Dillon with the replacement nut. Thanks guys.
  9. Mine was coming out once in a while. Instead of changing it, I just knocked it about 1/3 of the way out and bent it a little then pushed it back in. Hasn't moved since.
  10. Could one of you guys that has both the rifle and pistol primers measure them for depth? I was told that rifle primers are longer in depth, and therefore harder to get seated below flush. Just curious My .40 std gun never hiccuped until I tried rifle primers, then I was getting a fail to fire every couple hundred rounds.
  11. I shot a titegroup load in my .45 for two years. Dirty meant after shooting my hands and right arm needed to be washed about halfway up the forearm after practice
  12. Here is a titegroup load I used to run w/200LSWC: 5.1 titegroup: AVG Vel 875.36 SD 26.22 AVG ME 340.38 AVG PF 175.07 HI Vel 907 LO Vel 788 Max Dev 119 Nice but you get dirty
  13. Sorry to hear about your frustration. The F/O front sight on my gun broke halfway throught he season this year, I measured it, and searched the net for the same sight. None, so I went to my gunsmith with a drawing on a piece of paper of the dimensions I wanted, and a slight change so it hopefully wouldn't break. 1 hour later it was done!
  14. I have been shooting titegroup for 3 years, and a few friends suggested trying longshot, so I picked up 2 lbs (winter being the time to experiment). Talking with various people that are a lot of things about longshot that I like. 175 PF loads w/ titegroup in my gun is right at max, and the pressure is way up there, longshot is right at the bottom of the scale. Longshot also fills the case more, one less chance of a double charge when the bullet won't seat... I've run some loads over the chrono and was kinda surprised by the results. Here is my match load in titegroup: AVG Vel 968.9 SD 9.69 AVG ME 375.31 AVG PF 174.40 HI Vel 988 LO Vel 955 Max Dev 33 Here was my starting load with longshot: AVG Vel 1004.8 SD 21.01 AVG ME 403.63 AVG PF 180.86 HI Vel 1029 LO Vel 957 Max Dev 72 Second load of longshot .1 less: AVG Vel 972.4 SD 24.07 AVG ME 378.02 AVG PF 175.03 HI Vel 1007 LO Vel 934 Max Dev 73 Look at the differance in SD and MD, it's double. I've looked at a bunch of my titegroup loads and they are all about the same. I'm leaning towards sticking with titegroup, but still have more longshot to shoot. Any thoughts?
  15. First load of Longshot from my Edge last week, temp low 70's. OAL 1.145, 180gr FMJ 6.5 grains gave: AVG Vel 1002.2 SD 18.76 AVG ME 401.56 AVG PF 180.40
  16. I have never seen a penalty target.
  17. 5 years later Anybody running a titanium firing pin? Just curious
  18. Howcome the earplugs aren't BLUE???
  19. With Federal small rifle primers I had 5 failure to go bang in the first thousand rounds. Traded back to Federal SPP and no problems since.
  20. I just about wet myself, that was FUNNY!
  21. Grasshopper listening, if plunger don't work, shinny slide stop going back
  22. Could bore it out, gonna try the SVI plunger tube first. Maybe it's longer
  23. I picked up an SVI slidestop for my Edge, after being very pleased with the ambi safety from SVI. The slidestop doesn't appear to be long enough, in that the springloaded retaining pin doesn't put any tention on the slidestop and it will fall back out. Anybody else seen this?
