  1. After finishing 9th in Trooper this year I can see that using a PCC is a MUST! Not only did they have more fun than me, some of the steel pistol targets were very challenging for a handgun and I spent too much time trying to neutralize them. The PCCs handled the long steel like a rifle and chewed through the 18 plate racks like they were nothing. I already have a JP 9mm Carbine lined up for next year and wish I would have taken the offer of a borrowed one this year. Live and learn, without the PCC you might as well shoot Open. Doug
  2. Silly!!! JJ wants to use paint ball guns, not lasers!!! This is the year for the moat. It's been raining quite a bit!!! They may have to be mule deer or hares instead of sharks...or wait, rattlesnakes with paint ball guns...BIG rattlesnakes! Bwahahahaha! Only if the paint balls are frozen, otherwise I'm sending lead! Doug
  3. I'm shooting my .260 on the bonus targets at Ironman this weekend and hope to have the 6mm barrels in hand next week, I'll make sure to get some pictures and take notes on the loads and groups. I'll be sure to give you a call Jesse if I run into problems! Doug
  4. No one expects the Spanish Inquisition!
  5. 3GN Rules: 9.1.8 HITS CLAYS: Also, if a clay target falls from the stand while being engaged but does not break, the competitor will get score/credit for the target in question with no penalty assessed. (eg.. stand is struck) 11.2 Range Equipment Failure: If a target falls or fails without being engaged, (e.g. wind action) after the start signal, the range officer shall stop the competitor as soon as possible. The competitor will then be required to re-shoot the course of fire once it has been reset. Looks pretty clear to me, if the stand is struck and clay falls, no REF or penalty, if the wind blows down clay its a REF and mandatory reshoot. I take ROing seriously but my job is to enforce the rules in effect at the match I'm working. Many matches are not penalizing for clays that fall if the stand is struck including USPSA Multigun Matches. If you see ROs calling hits inconsistently as you stated above have a chat with the MD so he can correct the situation. USPSA MG Rules: 9.4.26 Frangible targets must break with a visible piece missing or separated from the original target to be counted for score. A fixed frangible target that falls from a hit on its holder will be considered a hit. Doug
  6. Speed, flatter trajectory with high BC bullets. I'm hoping to get close to 3000 FPS. My .260 Rem is running near 2750. Doug
  7. Yup, just changing the barrel and I'm using the the same adjustable gas block that was on the gun. Doug
  8. Barrels are only a few weeks out. Uses a regular AR-10 bolt. I'm getting jazzed to start working up a load! Doug
  9. The best .22 rifle is a.......22 pistol! I do have a conversion for one of my ARs that I shoot suppressed but honestly it is more fun to shoot my High Standard with 4" barrel and my Aris 5.56 suppressor. The suppressor is heavy for a .22 but the steel frame of the gun balances it out. First time my daughter shot it she turned her head towards me and said "did it fire?". The bullet hitting the berm is louder than the gun firing. Shoots CCI mini mags subsonic and very accurate. Doug
  10. I worked on loading my Eberlestock pack for shooting Trooper at Ironman. Doug
  11. That is an R&R Targets breach door. Looks like the picture is of Robert J. From a match at Albany, OR. I have shot and used those doors at numerous matches and they work great! Doug
  12. Remington used to sell the Comp Master which was an OK competition shotgun but I never really liked the one I bought because it was hard to load with the button on the loading gate. EZ loader makes it easier to load. Instead of fixing mine I sold it and bought a SX2 which was much easier to load. Still have the SX2 in the safe but I shoot mag fed in Open now. I still see some old timers shooting 1100/1187 shotguns in Open. I plan on adding a tube to hold 8 rounds. - If you keep the 27" barrel might as well add a longer tube, most matches you can add all the shells you want after the beep. What is the best barrel length? I would do 22-24" What is the best front sight to use? I like rifle sights or at least a fiber optic front sight What is the best choke to use? I use mod but keep a diffusion, CYL, and Light Full in my bag, YMMV,. Do i need a sling? Depends on the match, might as well rig one up just in case. Should I consider a trigger job? if so, who to use. I'm a slapper and don't notice triggers that much on the clock, so I would keep the stock trigger. Did I leave anything out? Most assuredly, you will know more as you shoot more. Doug
  13. PM me your address, I have some 123 Scenars, 123 Sierra MKs and some Noslers that are around 123. I'd be happy to send you 10 of each to test. Doug
  14. I use my bipod whenever possible in Open. I use a squeeze bag when I shoot Practical Rifle and I bought a tripod and PIG for that game as well. I just see the extra equipment taking me more time to employ than it's worth in 3 gun. Doug
  15. I agree with you, but since bags are almost unheard of in 3 gun, there are no specific rules about them. Every time somebody comes up with a new device or idea we end up with more rules to address the situation. My opinion is that they are a supporting device and would be illegal in TO, but ok in Open. Mark is correct, ask the MD for a ruling before you get bumped to Open. Doug
  16. You sound a little cranky for a guy with a total of 3 posts. There will be plenty of different replies to posts here on BE, take them with a grain of salt and relax a little. Squeezing the mouse too hard will give you cramps. Doug
  17. This/\. No need for a bag on shots under 400 yards, we are shooting 3-4 moa targets, not groups. Perhaps a little practice would help more. Doug

  19. Looks like that range is not free to shooters. Check with Pete or Carl if you need to check zero. Doug
  20. I like my JP 20" but that is me,YMMV. Typically these questions have no answer, only opinions which is one reason for JJ's frustration. People like to ask questions, get tons of advise, then ignore it and then buy what every they want. Search functions and engines are your friend, use them early and often. Doug
  21. The rifle range, straight ahead as you pull in to the range complex, has always been available to sight in. Doug
  22. I didn't ask but since I know those guys I'm sure it will be reasonable. I'll post the cost when it's delivered. I have powder, 4350 and 4831sc, 1700 Berger 105 Hybrid, primers, brass and a set of Whidden 6mm CM dies at the house, now I just need that barrel. Doug
  23. Good clear advise from CJW. I shoot open and have the same problems in terms of stagger loading my magazines. I've found that the fastest way to shoot a stage is having the different rounds loaded in the order I'm going to shoot them. I'll usually add an extra round of each in case I have a miss but you have to be extra careful that you burn or eject the extra round if you don't need it. Another method, depending on stage layout, is to have slugs on top of shot in each mag. When you switch mags you have one shot in the gun and then your slugs on the second shot. The slowest method is to have a separate mag for slugs and shot. Every method has its place depending on how the stage is set up and your own experience level. Doug
