    Safety check at A3

From the CZ manual: The design of this handgun incorporates the feature that the manual safety can not be applied when the hammer is not cocked to avoid reducing the readiness of the pistol for use by accidental engaging of the manual safety. (https://www.czub.cz/media/attachment/file/i/n/instruction-manual-cz-75-sp-01.pdf) So if the safety on your firearm will engage while in DA mode then the internal parts have worn (or been modified) to the point that they do not function correctly. There were probably 50 different CZ guns that came through chrono at A3, exactly two failed this check. Scott
  3. We setup and teardown the day of the match. Our weekly matches are 3 stages, you and weekend are six stages. When posting the match information I post setup time followed with the statement that shooting starts as soon as stages are ready. We normally do not have any problem get stages up and down in timely manner. Scott
  4. No because it was not a PS issue. The tablets in question kept losing WiFi connection. I suspect one to many drops. Scott
  5. Nothing is easy to see in bright sun. We bought a bunch of the Practiscore shades for sunny days. The ease of use and syncing is what cemented the decision for us.
  6. We have been using Practiscore since right after it's release. We started with an Ipad for a master device and several different android tablets and nooks (OMG the pain) as scoring devices. This year after a few problems with our older android devices, battery life was diminishing and we were having problems with syncing. We went ahead and bought 12 current generation Ipad mini's. What a difference! The scoring is lighting fast, the battery life is outstanding, and most importantly the syncing is seamless. My stats guy never has to interrupt the stage. He pulls into the bay with the router and can pull scores 30 seconds later. We will keep the older devices as backups giving us a pool of 30 devices to run a match if need be. But it will be a dire situation if we have to use anything buy an IoS device. Scott
  7. Unless it is an all classifier match we do not allow re-shoots. If you go to a level 2+ you do not get to re-shoot a stage you do not like the score on. We also do not allow multiple entries for the same competitor. If the MD has time we will occasionally leave classifier stages up after the rest of the match is tore down. Once everything but the classifier stage(s) is put away competitors may shoot other divisions. Many times I will RO and score to help get people through and classified. We adopted the single entry rule to keep the match moving. Scott
  8. They have to find me and wait to get added to a squad. This way I can make small talk and slip in a comment like "glad you could make it, even a little late. It will be nice to have all your help during tear down". Many times I will walk them to their bay and add them to the scoring device myself. Once the squads have moved from their starting bays we do not normally accept any more competitors. I also give out my cell number and I get texts of people running late. One thing I forgot is we do all online registration through Practiscore and also take match payments. This way I spend less time checking people in. Scott Arnburg
  9. It is all about expectations. As a club president/MD you have to be blunt with your competitors. Set the expectation that everyone is expected to help with setup, tear down, and stage re-setting. Then you need to re enforce that expectation. Here is what I have learned works good for my local club. We run about 40 USPSA matches a year, and another 50 or so (combined) IDPA, Steel, and 3gun matches. I never post a shooting start time. I always post setup start time. An example would be "Setup starts at 8 am and shooting as soon as the stages are ready". I ask for volunteers to manage construction for a bay and give them clear expectations on what I want built there. We only have 3 large bays to use so we normally double up on each bay. One large field course paired with a speed shoot or skills focused stage. As President/MD/RM I do not normally build stages -- My job is to float from bay to bay and make sure stages are being built. This is also when I work with the stage designer to make changes to stages to make sure they comply with the current rules and do not suck. I always communicate with the stage designer to make sure they understand why the changes need to be made. As the match wraps up the President/MD/RM does not help with tear down. I am working on scoring and taking note of the people who shoot and scoot. With Practiscore my goal is to have scores posted before I leave the range. We have a trailer for each bay that holds all the props for the stages in the bay. This way all tear down consists of is putting props on the trailer. The next step is the hardest because it involves confrontation. Those competitors that continually do not help the President/MD/RM has to call them out on their behavior. This goes beyond setup and tear down. I have been known to hand out pasters and offer a practical demonstration on their use. There are two types of competitors at the club level Users and Doers. A little work and bluntness combined with courtesy will go a long way to convert your Users into Doers. Alternatively the Users will find another sport with less expectations -- like Trap or Steel Challenge. If the above does not work find a "heavy". Everyone knows that person in your club that does not have a filter and get them to do your dirty work. Peer pressure is a great thing make it work for you. Deliver a great product. Lets face it we have all shot club matches that sucked. As a Club President/MD/RM if you put on a great club match with challenging stages your competitors will want to come to your match and getting them to work with be much easier. This is what has worked for my local club. In five years we went from nothing to 65% of the mission count for Iowa. Scott Arnburg
  10. According to the rule book for initial classifications scores under 2% are not used. This is on page V under the classification system, right in the front of the book.

  17. I have been shooting Production for the last year because there is meaningful competition in the division. The last club match had 36 competitors and 24 in Production. I have guns and gear for every division except Single Stack, but whats the point of shooing in a division with 4 or less competitors?
  18. Wow what a terrible article. It is full of 2nd hand observations and outright falsehoods. Example: "No competitive shooting governing body I’m aware of allows rounds to be caught in any way — they must be ejected onto the ground." I had to check make sure it was not an article from The Onion or some other comedy website. This is an old conversation. If the competitor chooses to flip and catch the round it is on them if they screw up and DQ. Not sure why this thread keeps getting resurrected every few weeks.
  19. We have used PS and Stripe for last 2 years with no problems. If I could go to all online payments of match fee's I would. It is one less thing I have to deal with match day. Scott

  21. I have been using the Safariland 4555 Shooters range bag. It nicely fits 2 guns mags and everything I need for a match. http://www.safariland.com/julie-golobs-gear/4555-shooters-range-bag-1114015.html
  22. I had the same problem. Called Dillon their first question was what dies are you using. I was using the EGW U-die, switched to a Dillon die and problem went away. Scott
  23. Sure, but does the people that make the decisions read this? This is all stuff I have shareed with my AD at length. I am looking for some input from people outside the Iowa section and Area 3. Scott Arnburg
