  1. Hi all, I was wondering if nyone can help me with some info. I have an STI but the hammer seems way too lose in the frame. There is some significant sideplay in the hammer without the mainspring housing ( probably around 2 - 3 mm) and it is still evident when the hammer is back. Is this a bad thing or am I just being picky. My para didn't have this much movement !
  2. Tyler Durden ( i wish...... more like to protagonist from Fight Club )
  3. Cool.... maybe what I'm seeing is the aluminium residue you mention Eric I haven't had a really good scrub at it yet when I get home from work I'll really have a good go at it. I figure it's only going to get more and more marks with use but having it for a week and seeing what looks like scratches was a little concerning. You know what they say, if you can't shoot good you might as well look good. Guess I'd better get some more practice in =) Thanks guys
  4. Just wondering if other people have this problem, I have a safariland 012 and it really knocks around the finish on my gun. I have a hardchromed STI that is very new and already has very mild scratching. Is normal.... coz if it is I don't like it...
  5. I have found that if you are having trouble with primer ignition with a light trigger pull it sometimes helps to shave the front of the hammer ( on older S&W's) to get more consistent ignition
  6. Not sure I like the idea of the stop plate being wired to the timer.... Too many things to go wrong IMHO.
  7. I use rudy projects and have never looked back (excuse the pun =) ) www.rudyproject.it I have Rydons with the insert for my prescription, one of the best/most useful bits of shooting gear I own.
  8. I looked into this one ages ago and found the following site... it looks true enough and even if it's not it's still a good read. http://www.wagoneers.com/pages/RocketCar/rockit.html
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, looks like some more time down the range or a trip to the gunsmith. Might try looking more closely at the extractor, thanks for the advice it looked to me that the ejector was very short we'll have to have a better look next time... Ross, we don't receive front sight here in Australia =( wish I did I keep hearing about all these useful articles in it.. might have a search and see if I can get hold of it in Aust... Cheers
  10. Thanks Leo, from what I've been told it simply stopped after working fine after a few months. My first reaction was short stroking but it has been running the same load and spring combo for a few months reliably, not being my pistola I'm not 100% on the situation but the shooter is a pretty experienced master grade IPSC shooter and knows his stuff. I am thinking that maybe the ejector has been chipped or something but I don't know what shape it was when it was working. It's definitely not an extended ejector though, might ask him to try a new ejector. Thanks for the reply =)
  11. Yep... the ejector works fine when it is hand cycled but cases do not eject when it is fired.....
  12. I have a friend of mine who has an sti slide and barrel in 38 super on a pachmyer frame (pretty sure it is a pachmyer frame anyway). It has been working without problems until now. When the pistol fires the slide comes back all the way but the case does not eject it gets fed back into the chamber. We were looking at it for a while the other day at the range and I simply cannot work out what is happening. This is weirding me out because: - The pistol is not short stroking - The primer strikes are normal - The extractor will keep an empty case against the breachface - If the pistol is hand cycled it will feed an eject entire magazine without any problems - it exhibits the same problem when only a single round is loaded and the magazine is removed - The hammer is cocked when the pistol goes back into battery feeding the empty case. The loads and the recoil spring have not been altered at all we even tried hotter loads to see if if was sort stroking, he is running a 12lb recoil spring and what feels like a 17lb mainspring, the loads would be about 130 PF. Anyone got any ideas what might be the cause of this? It is causing me to lose hair on his behalf.

I bought a pair of Rydons in Australia with the rx insert and they are awesome. The Rydons seemed to have a bit better coverage in the corners of the eyes for me. One of the best shooting accessories is a good set of glasses IMHO.
  14. Stumbled across it while looking for a copy of Brians book and have been lerking ever since =) I had read a few reviews on the web and it seemed like the bible as far as IPSC goes... can't say I have been disappointed, I was sold on the approach after the first section, although it's looking pretty ordinary now after being taken all over the place. I would also like to thank all the contributors who's knowledge I have so gladly stolen =) Greg
  15. Can you use safariland holsters and mag holders on a cr belt ??
  16. Guys, I'll fill you in on the unfortunate state of play in Aust. Due to a recent shooting at a University in Australia by a licensed shooter (the shooter in question was not legally entitled to own a pistol, Licensing Services made a mistake and gave a licence and a permit for handguns to a prohibited person as I understand) all calibres above .38 are banned and are now illegal, all pistols that have a magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds are banned, all semi-auto's with a barrel less than 120mm are banned and all revolvers with a barrel length of 100mm are banned. The only exceptions that you can own calibres above .38 for single action shooting and black powder. So, at the moment, after you have joined a pistol club and waited the 6 months now required to purchase your first fire arm you can purchase an air pistol, .22 or a cantre fire pistol of .38 cal or less. Just so you know, the shooting in question is the first homicide in over 100 years done by a licensed shooter with a licenced firearm in Aust. How's that for a knee jerk reaction by our government. A good frind of mine is going to New Zealand to compete and will have to shoot limited with a 38 super and due to the cal restriction to make major will have to shoot minor. So, he spends years shooting and makes an international team and cannot shoot on a level playing field. Our Prime Minister stated that no internationally recognised match will be affected by the new laws but as per usual has not lived up to his promise. Anyway, I refuse to stop shooting IPSC until they make all calibres illegal. The harder it gets to shoot the stronger my will to shoot gets. Greg
  17. I used to use linotype 210 grainers with a fast powder (AS30) when .40 was a legal calibre in Australia. They shot very nicely and the slide still cycled fast enough for good splits.
  18. Does the target taper use a specific patch type or can you use any roll of patches? I am interested in usign it to patch service match and IPSC targets which use different size patches. Greg

    Bruce Lee Quote

The way I understand it, the opponent is the stage you are shooting, you need to be adaptive. When the situation arrises to hit (make the shot) because you have adapted to the stage and are prepared there is little effort required to take the shot. Just my 2c Greg
  20. Hi All, I must admit I am a bit of a lerker when it comes to forums but I have a question to ask. I have reduced the strength on the main spring in my stock Para P-16ltd to try and get a lower trigger weight, as the one supplied with the pistol was very stiff, this seems to have worked quite well and I'm pleased enough with the results. However, what are the full effects of doing this? I have not reduced the strength a great deal, there is still more than enough power in the hammer strike to set off the primers. I am assuming that reducing the main spring may also reduce the spring pressure keeping the pistol in battery when a round is fired. I am also assuming that this effect is very minor and will not effect the reliability, power factor of ammo etc. I have put 100 rounds through since lightening the spring and it has functioned properly.
  21. I measured my Stainless, Limited P-16 in a few places and .370 was the largest measurement at the front of the trigger guard near the frame and on the bend. Greg
  22. Hey Mellow, FYI the trigger guard on my P-16 is .370 Cheers, Greg
  23. Thanks for the reply jmaass, that's exactly the kind of proof I was looking for. I wasn't really concerned with the rounds going off in the tumbler but a change in the characteristics of the powder if they were left for a long time. Seems that you've answered my question perfectly.. tnx
  24. Hi all, I've lurked on this board for a while and got some really interesting info so thanks to Brian and all who post regularly =) This may be a little off topic as it is in regard to tumbling finished ammo. I have heard/read that it may not be a great idea to tumble finished ammo for very long as it can change the size of the powder grains in the case and lead to different powder chacteristics. I don't tumble finished ammo myself but I know some who do. Is there any actual evidence showing if tumbling does effect velocity/accuracy? I guess brand of powder, powder speed, powder size, etc would also be factors Any thoughts?
