  1. Lee The shooters that are competing to earn the highest hit facter they are capable of should look for every angle to earn points in the least possible time elapsed. As long as they don't violate any of the current rules and satisfy the Written Stage Briefing then its all good. There is no mention of "what the stage designer intended" in the rule book. If you want to restrict yourself to shooting a stage the way you think the designer intended, that's great, but don't expect everyone else to.
  2. The fall may not be as great as it looks http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/canyonleap.asp Still retarded!
  3. Here is one http://bulletworks.com/Mag_catch.html and I am sure there are others that could be found with a little searching.
  4. A Benelli will not release a round from the magazine without either firing it or pushing the little silver latch. Follow Kurt's advice and shoot it to see if it works.
  5. FullTilt calls them "Turbo", not sure if they exist in play money though.
  6. No reason for you to feel bad. The shooter violates one of the safety rules, you are certain of it and you make the call. How the shooter handles it is beyond your control. He will get over it or he won't, either way it sounds like you did the right thing.
  7. Of those that have had Lasik, did you have both eyes corrected for distance or blended/monovision, and what are your feelings and opinions on which would be the better choice for a shooter?
  8. Why would anyone care how they do against someone in another division? Remember each division is a seperate match. Why try to change the rules on stage design simply to bring divisions closer to each other in the Combined Overalls which don't mean anything anyway? If you want to compare yourself to someone in another division then shoot in that division.
  9. I sprayed brass with silicon spray after running out of One Shot and got some galling of brass to the die that started scratching the cases. Don't remember how I got it out. But once I did I have used nothing but One Shot and have had no problems since. I'm sure any good quality case lube would do the same, just stay away from substituting anything else for case lube.
  10. Tempted to call B.S. on that one. Where's the muzzle blast/smoke, the sound is alot like you would here on The Rifleman, and why would he look at the camera after just doing something that should have had him checking for damage/injury in the other room or at a minimum checking his shorts?
  11. Bruce, Thanks for all of the time you spent explaining the reasoning in your answer. As I now understand and agree with the method you used to satisfy the rule pertaining to this situation. I guess the difficulty in accepting this answer is that in this instance a group of shooters have come nowhere near satisfying the requirements of the course of fire as spelled out in the WSB. And because the RO was just as negligent, the end result is that their hit factors probably won't suffer at all.
  12. Bruce, The rules don't spell out the method of getting the correct number of rounds entered when there are insufficient hits or misses recorded. 9.7.6.2 If insufficient hits or misses have been recorded on the score sheet, those which have been recorded will be deemed complete and conclusive. Now unless there is something I missed (entirely possible), it looks like you made an assumption that it was proper to add the missing rounds as NPMs. Assuming that reshoots are not possible, I would lean towards recording them as misses. After all that is what they are. There is no need for PEs as they did engage the targets at least once each. In my opinion the shooter/s in question had the brain fart and their scores should reflect it in full, giving them NPMs does not do that and is not fair to those who read and understood the course description. Understand I am not trying to be argumentative, only looking for a fair method to apply a rule which appears to be incomplete in direction.
  13. +1 ....cause it is just a game, and besides life ain't always fair. No alibis. Hmmmm.........Interesting. So, because life isn't fair, and this game is training for real life ........ then we should be sure to keep this game and it's rules vague and inconsistant ......c'mon!
  14. If it is up to the MD then how does that realy clarify anything until after the fact? This discusion in itself proves that there are varying opinions on how it should be handled. Shouldn't you know what the rules are before you chose to go to a match?
  15. Why not ask IDPA Headquarters for a ruling on matters such as this? Certainly it is not their intentions to have such a vague rule book as to cause misunderstandings such as this. After all you are paying membership dues, get something for your money.
  16. I don't see what the fixation of forcing a reload in a field course is all about. Seems to me the only thing tested is ones ability to find the gaps of shooting during the stage and decide which one the reload best fits in. For example in the typical pistol field course with the pistol's capacity at 20-22 rds and the course of fire 24 rds or greater, more often than not, the reload will cost most shooters 1 second or less of real time while reloading on the move, even a slightly botched reload can be fixed during movement without much time lost (and this will be no different with rifles at 30-40rds). Now compare that to a standards course with a mandatory reload per string where all of the extra time due to a mistake is costly. In my opinion if you want to test someones ability to reload do it in a standards course where it is a much larger percentage of the total time and leave the field courses freestyle.
  17. 23. Holsters should be suitable for everyday use. Competition holsters of the race gun type are specifically not allowed. All retention features of the holster must be used. The holster, must carry the pistol so that the grip front strap is at or above the top of the belt. The holster, must not be cut further than 1/2 inch below the front of the ejection port and cover the slide completely up to 1/2 inch below the ejection port. A belt slide holster, such as a Yaqui slide, is exempt from the covering the slide and the 1/2 inch cut requirements
  18. Exactly! Rather than opening up a rule book and having all of the range lawyers put in their two cents, the shooter is given the benfit of the doubt. That's the beauty of the IDPA rules, simplicity. Any and all issues are worked out at the time on the stage among a group of people who are out enjoying their day shooting. So are you suggesting the shooter should shoot the steel once and move on whether it falls or not........ trusting that the ruling will go in his favor? Because it sounds like the majority of the shooters wasted precious time (and places in the results) shooting a troublesome piece of steel that probably should have been fixed if only the rules were comprehensive enough to cover such a situation.
  19. The official answer is however they chose to score is at that match. They made up rules to run the stage, you pretty much have to go by the rules they made up to score it. Not trying to be righteous. We have all seen illegal stages. It is sad, but there will be more. Hmmm.....Official by who's standards? The fact that this was posted in "USPSA/IPSC Rules" my assumption was that he was asking what the ruling should be under USPSA rules. The truth is it is not possible to apply USPSA rules to a stage that is not designed within the parameters of one of the types of courses as outlined in the USPSA Rule Book. Having said that, understand that I am not trying to slam the course designer or anyone else for that matter. But I would like to point out that in my opinion situations like this create confusion and controversy which ultimately detract from the sport. Imagine yourself as a relatively new shooter or a crossover from one of the other disciplines and find yourself in the middle of such confusion. USPSA has probably one of the most comprehensive rule books out there and its not that difficult to design stages that not only comply with the rules but remain fun as well. All it would take is for stage designers to run stage ideas by one of the clubs senior members who has good rule knowledge and ask for help or suggestions. It's not that difficult to mold pretty much any stage design to fit the rules. The key to avoid confusion and controversy is to fix them before the match as opposed to trying to somehow twist the rules to fit the stage. Oh.........and I do on occasion go to outlaw matches that are run under "Bubba's Rules" and have just as much fun. But before I leave the house I know what to expect.
  20. In my opinion this stage clearly is not supported by USPSA rules as only Standard Exercises may have multiple strings and then must be Virginia Count or Fixed Time. Also the component strings cannot require more than 6 rounds without a mandatory reload. 1.2.2 Special Courses of Fire: 1.2.2.1 “Standard Exercises” must not require more than 24 rounds to complete. Component strings must not require more than 6 rounds (12 rounds if a mandatory reload is specified). 6.1.2 Standard Exercise – A course of fire consisting of more than one separately timed component strings. Scores, with any penalties deducted, are accumulated on completion of the course of fire to produce the final stage results. Standard Exercises must only be scored using Virginia Count or Fixed Time. The course of fire for each component string may require a specific shooting position, procedure and/or one or more mandatory reloads. Only one Standard Exercise of a maximum of 24 rounds is allowed in IPSC sanctioned Level IV or higher matches. To further justify this stage without quoting rules to support your opinion only muddies the water.
  21. 9.10.3 Acompetitor who reacts to a start signal but, for any reason, does not continue their attempt at the course of fire and fails to have an official time recorded on the timing device operated by the Range Officer, will be given a zero time and zero score for that course of fire.
  22. http://youtube.com/ or any of of the other free file hosting sites and search the key words USPSA or IPSC and you will find plenty.
