  1. Ron Lurch, now there's a name I was just talking about. Ron fired what've think was a double or triple charged round on the line in the early 80s IIRC and killed a series 70.
  2. I'm having very good luck with 231 in a 5", 4" 1911s and a Glock. But I'm loading the 124 flat nose. I'm loading it for the same reason.
  3. FC 18 and 19 are crimped, and the primer pockets are slightly undersized. They will need to be swaged. I have 1000 rounds of FC 19 that I got just in case (ammo shortages)
  4. It has, safety that you don't seem to understand. Cheers.
  5. Right, so that's your view over a professional that was a technical editor for American Rifleman before going to Ruger. Best of luck, I sort cracked cases out before reloading and I've seen thousands over 40+ years of handgunning starting in IPSC in the 70s.
  6. The EGW is actually a Lee Precision Die. He's out of stock
  7. Talked with an old friend who used to be the QA manager at Ruger. Normal dies do not overwork the brass, in turn a "small base" die for rifle and undersized pistol sizers do over work the brass. This leads to developing fractures in the case which is why some 9mm loads blow up. This is not supposition, this is direct data from one of the guys that loaded the pill loads to test Ruger products. I think I'm going to pass on the undersized brass and sort it out another way.
  8. Edit: found the EGW, thanks. Have to give it a try although I hate over working brass, such is life!
  9. I'll tried as little crimp as possible, except with the Glocks we tried it in, I got bullet set back. Bullets are Berry plated and this is a concern With the 124 grain flat nose, I'm seating to 1.065, and everything is fine except with his wolf barreled Glock.
  10. The die is set right, but it's not top end. Trick is I'm working up a load that will work in my 1911s and a Glock 19. Once I do we'll most likely start loading it on my 550 at his house. I did test some rounds starting low, but when I got up to 4.1 of 231 with an OAL of 1.065, it shot very nicely. So more loading this week. BUT, My thank to all for the help, I swore off 9mm in the 70s going IPSC with series 70s. Well here I am again and very new to the world of 9mm. I'm here to learn.
  11. Sadly with an early Glock that's almost as bad as I had to go to prevent set back. This is perplexing. Sorry for the slow response, I forgot to "follow" the thread. This forum software is a wee bit different.
  12. Fascinating. I know what I can do with a 1911, but had major problems with Glocks. I did make upmseveral dummies to try and ended up having to taper crimp them (Redding).
  13. You don't have a bullet set back problem doing this? I have to load for 1911s and a Glock. I can do this with the 1911s, but not the Glock. I do get bullet set back.
  14. Lapua if money was no object. Starline +P otherwise. The gentleman that started Starline started at Lake City. It's good brass.
  15. No. The Lyman works the same. I do spot check occasionally, but it always stays to spec
  16. I agree go 750, the 550 can be found cheaper. Also note that if you get a Dillon swagger, it has to be set up separately for swaging large and small primer pockets. I leave mine at large because of 7.62 brass and 9mm brass is plentiful. 45acp? Still use my 40+ year old Star.
  17. We went through the "which powder is better" back in the 70s long before TG. 231 always came out on top. But, those were 45acp days.
  18. Not going to get single digit SDs with mixed range pickup brass. I can do it all day long in rifle, but with 9mm I'm sorting brass. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  19. Mozambique 17 yards from the holster with a stock 9mm RO Champion. It was hot, humid and a lot of bugs. So I ran about 80 to 90 rounds. Fiochi 115s. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
  20. Sounds like the good old days of IPSC back in the 70s and early 80s. I loved it. Speed, skill and accuracy were critical.
  21. Back in the days when Mike Horne and Mike Harries were testing ideas for Gunsite (they were both instructors) we did a lot of things including shooting in a fun house. Go to Gunsite now and you'll still see their stuff being taught. Indoors you can't beat a pistol, especially in tight spots. I brought up the LASD SEB Team commander to try it with us (he brought an MP-5) and he did change some of the tactics they were using for indoors
  22. Something wrong with this pricing. 550s dropped in price with the release of the 750. My 550 was $750 brand new a lot of years ago. Even the extra heads wouldn't drive the price up that high. Mine was set for 45acp, 38 split, 380. My friend has it since I went back to using my Star for 45acp. The Dillon is being set up for 9mm.
