You did not specifiy how your gun is set up. From previous similar posts, there are a wide variety of thought on this subject amoung 10/22 shooters. So what is listed below is what works for me and others I shoot with each week so take the information as input. 1. Magnum Research Switchbolt Receiver (one GM uses Tactical Innovations receiver with 100% reliabilty). 2. Briley 16" Raptor Lightweight barrel, Magnum Research 16" .920" Carbon Fiber Barrel, Tactical Solutions 16" .920" Litewieght AL barrel..all sporter chambers. 3. Kidd Trigger. 4. Tandemkross DoubleCross Magazine (with original Ruger 10 rd internals) Note: A friend of mine who uses a Kidd receiver had reliabilty issues with the Ruger mags. The DoubleCross mags resolved his issues using Ruger internals. Chassis.............Wiland, Kidd, Crazy Ivan, ModShot, etc., should not be an issue for reliability. Barrels should be sporter chamber. Our experience....based on getting 100% reliabilty with SV and HV ammo....is the ULW sleeved barrels such as Wiland and Taccom....are a bit more ammo sensitive perhaps due to pressures. The lightest full length barrel that I have found is the Briley Raptor at around 11.2 oz. The Tactical Solutions AL barrel is around 15 oz (BTW.....I have a lot of rounds thru my TS and the AL breech face is holding up quite well and is very accurate). Good luck.

FWIW..............I use SK SV ammo for my Black Mamba's. I just roll off some of the excess slick coating and they feed 100%. When I practice and want to use other ammo such as Aquila Pistol Match that has a heavy coating, I rub off the heavy wax on the tip using a rag or folded paper towel. With a little downward pressure, I can get the tip of the bullet clean which gives me less drag in the mag. I get 100% reliabilty when I do this. Doesn't take that long to clean up a couple hundred rounds.

We use the whiskers as well. In South Texas, there are year round IDPA and USPSA matches and the whiskers can get a bit beat up so I would recommend ordering extras to replace as necessary. Set up goes quickly with the markers.

In another topic about SCSA, several folks remarked about SCSA having it's own RO Certification program. Similarities do exist between the two, but often they get intertwinded. I would like to see a separate program. Since this discussion was about "shot's fired", AD's, DQ, etc for SCSA only, I thought I would toss in another example that could raise a question. Under 10.1 Prodedural Penalities is 10.1.1 Creeping. Specifially 10.1.1.1 which reads: "In the event that a competitor begins his attempt at the course of fire prematurely ("false start" prior the the issuance of the start signal) the Range Officer will, as soon as possible, stop and restart the competitor once the course of fire has been restored. Attempt means the gun is drawn and/or shots fired, but the timer has not been started." In this case, a competitor can jump the RO's signal and get a shot(s) off before the buzzer goes off and not be within the timed COF......and not be an AD or penalty.....or DQ. With low-ready guns, this could happen......clearly it has happened otherwise 10.1.1.1 probably would not have been written.

Thank you. This helped me understand a bit more. I understood from the numerous posts that Area Directors are related to USPSA (the sport). I haven't read, and could be wrong, but I don't perceive that there is an exclusive SCSA (the sport) serving as AD. In fact, the response from HQ was Areas and Sections are exclusive to USPSA the sport and SCSA does not have Areas or Sections. I have had only 2 thoughts about SCSA and they were a 2-3 second penalty for disabled shooters on OL and whether or not SCSA should consider adding 1 to 2 additional official stages that would give more options to ranges that can't physically fit OL and SO. Many people that I have spoken with think this would benefit SCSA but none that I spoke to actually knew anyone to go to with the idea. It was this thought from my other post lead me down the path of thinking about this post.....should SCSA have it's own BOD (AD's). Perhaps you Zach should have a seat at the table and your position noted in the SCSA website? You have the passion for the sport and know a lot of people and would be a great "go to person" .......so giving you a vote and a voice seems logical (to me) for SCSA. Thank you.

Zach, compared to many who have commented in this post I am relatively new to understanding the SCSA/USPSA heiarchy, including AD's and where they are, SC's. I may not have been looking in the right places, but since you have a USPSA.org email address, I have been unable to find you in the SCSA/USPSA websites. When you reply to the post comments, for those of us who may not be aware of your role with SCSA, perhaps a short overview would be helpful. Glad to hear your deadline pressures have eased up. This poll ends tomorrow, 9/15/2021 at 9:00 pm Central Time. Based on activity, it appears this post may have run it's course. I was hoping that the total number of votes would reach 100 but as of today, the number is 64. Perhaps this will increase during the final hour before the poll closes.

There have been a lot of comments regarding OL in this post.....one being the size and many ranges can't physically shoot it (SO as well). With only 7,800 SCSA members in the entire U.S. (per USPSA board report for 2020), I believe one or two more official stages would be a positive change to encourage more new shooters and to give more ranges the ability to shoot more official stages at their matches. But.....not changing the principle of the sport which is 5 strategicly placed targets with 5 strings with emphais on speed and accuracy. Leave WSS as is for year or two as an option.

You summed up this topic nicely. One or two additional official stages, in my opinion and the reason for this poll, would add a new outlook for the SC and I believe would encourage more shooters. When I was able to shoot USPSA, it was 1 classifier then 5 free form stages that changes from match to match. Let's give some more options to SC and still maintain it's principles of speed and accuracy.

I have a different opinion about Outer Limits which I have mentioned before. In our area we have large group of active, retired and disabled veterans. SCSA is an excellent format for disabled vets and other disabled shooters.......with the exception of OL. 4 second penalty per string or 12 second penalty for the stage does not truely reflect their shooting skills. All of the other stages, even if in a wheelchair allows these folks an equal chance to shoot to their shooting skill level......but no way they can manuver a wheel chair over the shooting boxes without a lot of effort.....and time on the clock. There are other reasonable reasons that perhaps should give thought to the only odd stage we have in SC. Thanks

I was asking USPSA who the Area 4 AD and SC was for SCSA and was surprised by the answer. It never occurred to me that the USPSA areas was specifically for USPSA. I guess it has never come up before.

Directly from USPSA HQ today after I questioned the first email. 2nd Email from USPSA: I will confirm again, SCSA clubs are not in sections or areas. Areas and Sections ONLY apply to USPSA Clubs technically. The matches naming themselves Area X championship is a geographical reference and those matches are simply a Tier II or Tier III SCSA Match. 3rd Email from a higher up USPSA than Email 2: Individual clubs are not assigned to a section or area. However, Tier 3 matches can requested to be sanctioned as an area championship, regional, or nationals. Tier 2 can request to be section/state championship and this is under appendix A1 in the rules and policies for sanctioned these events. I am only the messenger in this as this post made me curious of how SCSA is structured. So I asked HQ and these were the replies.

As this topic has progressed there has been additional information directly from USPSA HQ today. Today it was learned that SC is not structured with Area’s and AD’s. Consequently, the BOD for SCSA is made up of USPSA Corporate and 8 USPSA AD’s. So under this structure, another Enos member posed the question of should SCSA have its own separate BOD representatives. A reasonable question resulting in a variety of responses.

Excellent idea. I did shoot the Area 4 Texas match and met some good folks there. It was a fun and organized match. Covid prevented me from going to WSS 2020 and 2021 but I’m planning to go to 2022 and the April 2022 Area 4 match back in Texas. nothing beats personal talks......especially when it involves shooting sports. FWIW......I’ve learned today that SCSA is not structured with areas and AD’s. The references to Areas is just for geographical references related to sanctioned (USPSA.org approved) Level III or II matches. Ideas, suggestions, etc should be forwarded directly to Headquarters. thanks

I decided after I sent the email to also phone Headquarters to speak with the person about this. I am waiting on a phone call. Hopefully it was just a wording issue and not literal.

Ok. I said I would not ask again.....but not wanting to add any untrue information, I did just now ask for a clarification if the text was meant to be as written or were they perhaps trying to indicate SCSA falls under the USPSA links and AD's. I will let you know what the reply is.

For the benefit of doubt of wording: Perhaps it should have said that separate Area AD's and Area's are not defined specifically for SCSA and instead SCSA falls under the USPSA Area's and AD shown in the USPSA website. Perhaps that is what was meant.

I have had several email with USPSA.org on the subject of Area Directors, Section Coordinators, directory, etc. I received the following reply this morning. I am not including the names of the folks at USPSA Headquarters who replied (there were 2 of them involved with my request for info). Here is the reply....exactly as I received it: "SCSA clubs are not in sections or areas. Areas and Sections ONLY apply to USPSA Clubs. So for this reason, there is not Area Map on the SCSA website. To find your Area Director, please use this tool: https://uspsa.org/areas" Not much more I can add.

This may go to the heart of why this topic was started. There are many people who have a passion for SCSA and there are many examples of why people feel that their voice or representation from USPSA.org is not on equal status with USPSA(the sport). It's not that something is broken or needs to be fixed but simple things like discussing things that could improve SCSA and not having an advocate to go to. I love USPSA....but I am broken down with too much metal in my body to handle it anymore. SCSA is great from me......I enjoy the speed and the challenge of only Alpha's or Mike's. But rarely have I had a discussion with a USPSA shooter about things that may improve SCSA matches. So this brings us back to the original question of adding to the BOD's.....which is really adding AD's. As far as SC's.....most people don't even know there are SC's. I do believe that it would be a positive addition to the the whole organization to have AD's that represent both shooting diciplines. But that's from my perspective which may not be in the majority of SCSA shooters. Meanwhile......I will shoot as many SCSA a month as I can....for as long as I can. Thanks.

Thanks for quick response. The reason for my question is wondering where his focus is. So far, I have managed to locate one AD and one SC. The clubs they are affilated with are USPSA. Do they sometimes shoot a SCSA match......yes. But their focus and "passion" is USPSA. Is this how your SC is? Thanks
