  1. I have zero experience with the high dollar open guns I just shoot a DVC but I've shot it with a plastic grip and then cheely E2 back to back same day. My drill times were consistently .5 seconds faster on 2-3 target mach stages. I felt the weight helped me transition slower and not over run targets. If that makes sense.
  2. I got if figured finally, with new brass it was perfect ran no issues. With the used brass I tried the u die and it ran fine. Fine tuned the powder/flare die, ran great for about 1k rounds so far.
  3. I used everything from plated to lead 115-147's I found with 135g bear creek moly coated with 3.5 of TG was a pretty awesome shooter. I was down to an 11 lb recoil spring and it was super flat and fast. With bullseye I added .4-.6 g of powder I'm pretty sure I was .012 under Sami length
  4. You will use less TG over time but it's pretty dirty and very smokey. I've ran pounds and pounds of it in limited and PCC with no mettering issues. I've personally never ran it in open so I can only tell you my experiences.
  5. In my experience 38 shoots softer and flatter than 9 maj. All the other details aren't that significant when you factor in how much $ we already spend just to shoot open
  6. I've had issues with the screw bottoming out in the barrel and the barrel just rotates free. Filed the barrel a touch shorter to hold tight on the frame.
  7. Thanks guys, I think I will try to get one together with a mount on the classifieds. If not I'll pick up a freshy this winter!
  8. Thanks I'll give it a shot when I get back into the shop! Yes I'm loading on a 650. Seriously you guys are awesome, still new ish to this sport the amount of knowledge that is shared openly is really cool!
  9. Yes they all drop right in, I ordered the Lee undersize die and the factory crimp. I realized I was still using the 9mm carbide crimp die. Somehow ended up in the box with the 38 super dies. My dumb ass didn't read it lol
  10. I have the 3 die box set from LEE, I'm having random loaded bullets just push into the casing. Having random bullets loose in the casing. Brand new to open, need an undersized die like the Lee u die for 40?
  11. I haven't shot anything but the c-more. Contemplating trying out the RTS2 or something similar. It's just alot of $ to pony up with not knowing anything about the differences!? Anyone seen easier sight pictures after transition with the smaller optic?
  12. I was shooting a mix of Barry's RN and the accura RN. So I will experiment with some different bullets. I like the idea of Montana gold's consistency. If I can find the same elsewhere and save a few bukcs. That would be nice
  13. Anyone else have issues with accura 124 RN tumbling?
  14. I really like my E2, if you have to adjust your grip at all it much easier than the Evo. As I am still only a season into this I often find myself needing to adjust my grip not getting it right on the draw
  15. So I bought this Eddie Garcia 6" several weeks ago. It's been an awesome shooter for the 2500 rounds I've got through it. A local shooter had a brand new cheely grip so I decided to give it a chance. I got it fitted after work this morning, I'd like to go ahead and coat this gun as it's gonna see ALOT of use. This is the first gun I've sent out for coating so as the title says im searching for a reputable company. And go!
  16. I have 2 rock island 1911/2011's, for competition they need trigger work and some polishing. Nothing to serious just a few hours with a good metal polish and some fine sandpaper. I found there is a big difference in accuracy. They loosen up considerably, but for USPSA you should be fine. Run the barrel out for a season or two and if you notice it opening up have a better barrel fitted. If you can do all the work locally you should be into it a few hundred dollars less than an edge. With all that being said, I believe your better off just buying an STI. Any warranty work will be completed faster and you most likely will have better support in your area. Mags are more affordable but in a pinch they can be several days away. My 40 requires a short load 1.115-1.122 with the range brass variance. My RIA is now a backup as I found regardless of loads I cannot get it to group better than 2-3" at 15 yrds. I bought mine used for a great deal. I have no complaints with reliable function, only with accuracy. And with the barrel with a short chamber and most STI shooters upwards of 1.180 if you ever find yourself in an ammo pinch at a match compatible ammo cound be difficult to come across
  17. Thanks for the input. I will try some 165's when I return home from my work trip.
  18. I have a carbide coated grip now and it's a great texture. Easy to grip in a hurry, I probably have shot 50-60k through 5 inch guns. So I know that I will get used to this sight radius as time goes along and I get more rounds down range. I didn't realize how much different the timing was until I shot the 6" gun in a match. I have ran 180's and 200's if I didn't load the mags from the ammo boxes I couldn't tell you Which one was softer.Feel identical, group the same at 10yrds. But 180's are a touch cheaper since in shooting lead. Which was weird because I could always tell with the 5" guns. Time will tell and I will keep shooting and practicing, I think k im gonna hold off on the steel grip and shoot the rest of the season with what I have. That's a good idea trying the lighter projectiles in the longer barrel. I will grab a sample pack and see what happens. Thanks for all the insight.
  19. weeks ago I purchased an Eddie Garcia 6" in 40s&w. I've put about 1500 rounds through it. Gun is absolutely phenomenal, but im struggling tracking the 6" slide. I've only shot 5" guns the last few years, from Cz TSB, so polymer canik tp9sfx, to my RIA 40 double stack. All the heavier guns I feel more comfortable shooting fast and I have an easier time tracking the sight. Just going out and shooting the RIA I instantly feel at home, tighter double taps, better sight picture, etc. I understand it's gonna take some time to get used to the sight picture and I have no interest in changing guns because I truly love this EMG. A local shooter is selling a cheely grip, used but barely. Says he never had to fit the grip to the frame. Which is awesome, hard to wrap my head around a bolt on grip. How can it not require fitting? Luck if the draw? Regardless, im strongly considering added this grip to my Eddie 6" but I just don't know if it's worth the difference when it comes down to the brass tacks. I don't really care about the the cool factor. Maybe a little.... But I have giant hands (size 13/xxxl gloves) the wider the grip like my RIA the more comfortable it feels. Has anyone gone to the steel grip and just found a night and day difference on recoil, tracking sights, and honestly can say it's worth the 600$ ish? In true performance.
  20. I just found out cheely make a magwell for the para clones as well
  21. I ran Bear Creek 180's on 4.0g of bullseye, or 3.8 of TG. At 1.118-1.125. just various brands of range brass so OAL varied. Stuffed 20 with the TF base pads. Ran like a top
  22. anyone else had to finish fitting the frame to beaver tail? My God mine was hurting my hands
  23. there's too many really nice limited guns available to buy one new in my opinion.
  24. Reading about fitting makes it seem alot easier than it really is! I believe it when builders save they have hours and hours into a custom gun
