  1. That's the key there. I have not bought anything the last 3 years that I could not go ahead and pay cash for.
  2. I had a chance to shoot it some last night. What I thought was a 12.5 # spring turned out to be 17#. I found a new 12# and installed that. Then some timing drills and I think that will be the winning combo. It's more of a switch going back to limited than I thought. I just need to slow down a hair. I'm still trying to run the gun at open speeds and I should not be.
  3. I shot 250 rounds of the non match federals yesterday. My worked over 13 lb mainspring didn't cut it, so I put a stock 15 lb in and went 200+ trouble free rounds. That means I'll wipe the crud out of the gun tonight and run a bore snake through it and see how it does Sat. Nothing like being able to shoot 3 matches and a practice session on one $13 box of ammo.
  4. One of the best things said here so far . . . Is there any functional difference between dumping extra rounds to get to slide lock when you want, and intentionally downloading a magazine to get to slidelock when you want? The latter is clearly against the rules. Lets see, I'm not going to carry a partially loaded weapon, but I would put an extra round in a threat just for insurance. So still clear as mud.
  5. A local guy is mad at me here for mentioning this rule to him. I only did it because we saw a guy the month before squat for a low port and his belt was in his armpits when he stood up.
  6. I ordered a double for STI mags from Comptac and it has been great. When I did the order it said 3 weeks for delivery, but I had it in 1 week.
  7. I saw a guy forget his whole mag catch last weekend.
  8. Damn, Diet Coke all over the monitor ...again. I really have to stop doing that.
  9. Screaming... now that's funny. I bet you pick them up after the match and use them again don't you Just kidding.
  10. I'd thought about that, but I've been shooting open for a year and I don't think I'm pushing the gun down any. I wil work on some timing drills though.
  11. Well, I just put a 12 # in and will test it Thursday evening. So, is there anyway to change the plug out to the other type?
  12. Same with mine. My gun weighs in at 36 oz, so we are comparing like guns. I'll have to order several different weights and try them out. What I thought was a 12.5 might not be. On a side note, how do you take yours down with the 2 piece guide rod? I went to do it like I did with my 5 inch Eagle, but the plug does not come out the end of the slide.
  13. I did a search and did not find any newer posts. What weight recoil spring should I use for a lightened 6 inch limited gun? I'm shooting 165jhp at about a 172ish PF. Last weekend I was having some real issues with my second shot. The slide is really dipping low for the second shot. The gun is still new to me, but at 7 yards the second shot should not be in the dirt on a quick split.
  14. You too. I "found" an old and beat up 1050 just sitting in the boot of my car one day. Must have been a pixie. I just can't believe my luck sometimes. Funny, yep it's the same pixie that will suddenly fill your closet with new shoes. And the matching outfits to go with those new shoes. I tried telling my wife that I went to order a caliber conversion....it just happened to come wrapped inside a dillon 1050. Opps, I blame it on how easy it is to click in the wrong box when you shop online.
  15. You could check with Dan Burwell, because I'm pretty sure he was thinking along those lines. Or see if the threads for the SJC Glock comp are the same and try one of those. I'm thinking of trying that for a minor steel gun with a slide mounted optima I have on the bench right now.
  16. Jake gave a great suggestion...dry-fire practice. The reason that is great is because...come match day...if your presentation needs work, it is too late to do anything about it. The presentation needs to be such that you don't have to waste time having to look for the dot. The dot should already be there when you present. If it's not...you really need to work on that in practice. That is a different issue than what you might need to see to take the actual shot...which is a different issue than what you might need to see to call the shot. You don't want to have to go hunting and peaking around to have to find the dot. Your presentation ought to have it right there for you to see. This is so true. When I first switched to open, I didn't do any dryfire first. I spent the whole match doing the dot hunt thing. I then spent the next month dryfiring every night just working on presentation. Not so much speed as having the dot be right there on the draw. I think now that on close/easy targets I do see the dot, but I don't realize it at the time. After the stage I can recall having seen the dot, but I didn't concentrate on it. It was just there. I guess I saw what I need to see to make the shot. Now, I seem to only screw it up majorly on a virginia count stage. I don't know why but I'll let them fly in a heartbeat on those stages even when the dot isn't there.
  17. Z, Take your 180 major load and just drop a 165 on it. My major load is about 4.8 with a 180, I take the same settings and drop a MG 155 on the top and presto...a great steel challenge load. It chroned at about 150.
  18. I'm going to try some Federal for our next match. It was Remington that I was having the most problems with.
  19. Thanks Chris. I'll write a note on my arm so maybe I can remember
  20. Look at the bright side... you can shoot B for the area and walk out of there as an A! Not always true, just ask me how I know ( look at last year's open results)
  21. OK, if not STI then who? I have the sight I just need a base for it.
  22. Is there any type of adapter that I can get that will let you mount an OKO red dot on a weaver rail mount?
  23. Now that is funny. I hate that day each year since I work in a building with 700 people that think that was meant for them. Yeah, I'm a public school teacher. I hope the building never catches on fire that day.
