  1. I also prefer a lighter rifle out front, but it's all a matter of opinion and style. I could see somebody who likes a JP balance point picking up my rifle and sneering at it.
  2. Thanks for the link! I didn't see any PCC magwells, but maybe somebody else with a better search-fu can find one.
  3. I avoid them, or at least the more aggressive ones-- had one that literally ate through the pockets of all my pants.
  4. Hi all! Before I start this thread, I need to preface it by saying that I personally have zero experience with 3D printing, but I have access to printers through friends who are willing to work with me. In other words, please phrase your answers for a total newbie... I'd like to install a magwell on my PCC, but I haven't found any designs which fit my vision of a perfect magwell. If I could find an open-sourced or purchasable program to print for an NFA lower, I think I could take it to my buddies and modify it with them from there. This is especially true since my idea is more on the minimalist side and will likely involve subtracting from the design more than adding to it. Really, if I can find one with an acceptable attachment point, we could probably handle the funnel modifications if the program will allow us to modify the design. Worst case scenario, I might be able to just go old school and sand it down after the fact. So... does anybody know where I can locate an existing 3D print plan (design, program... whatever it's called in 3D printing???) for an NFA lower magwell? Thanks, J
  5. Good idea-- didn't think of that because it keeps it more consistent... basically just doing a standard reload. I'll try myself on the timer like that and see if it helps.
  6. We have to register them as assault lights, are unable to wrap our thumbs around the body, and they must be a different color than black.
  7. LOL! I actually wasn’t going to respond as I prefaced my 1000 lumen comment with “In My Humble Opinion.” The only thing incorrect about that preface is that I’m not at all humble. I’m sure that a properly trained person using a 1000 lumen light can deploy it well indoors... but I haven’t been trained and it’s not at the top of my priority list. I think that’s true for the vast majority of folks; most gun owners aren’t even formally trained, so convincing people to spend $200 on a flashlight course isn’t going to go over that well to the average guy. Where I’m at, I like my “small” PD25 in the hand as well as on the gun. I never feel underpowered with 500 lunens, even outdoors when you’re talking about my small backyard, walking around the car, etc. I also like my PD35 in the hand, but if I’m indoors it’s not going to be on full blast. Outdoors, sure, it’s nice to have the option of 1000 lumens if I’m out Camping and looking in the distance... which is extremely rarely that I’m looking that far away. A typical person may never need that much throw. Just my opinion.
  8. I’m rolling on the floor laughing right now!
  9. Fenix rechargeable batteries nerd me out. They literally have the charging port built into the battery itself so you plug a kindle type cord directly into the battery, and there’s a light built into the top of the battery that comes on when plugged in, red charging and blue charged. Maybe other companies have the same battery but these are the only ones I’ve encountered. No additional charger required. I don’t even remove the battery from the light, just take the head off and charge the battery right in the body of the light. They last a surprisingly long time to me— longer than I need as long as I remember to throw it on the charger every so often. Again, only speaking to Fenix, but the batteries correspond to regular size batteries so the light sizes are no different whether you choose rechargeable or box batteries, but the Fenix rechargeable batteries tend to be more powerful than box batteries so you’ll get more lumens and life by going rechargeable. Not sure about weight. Cheaper in the long run too. Reminded me that I need to charge my keychain light so I photoed it on charger if you can decipher the image...
  10. What are folks getting for unloaded table starts? Beep to first shot? I jiust started practicing them and am getting 2.75 as a par target but it’s a little all over the place. Not consistent at all. I’m thinking this is pretty doggone slow but not sure. Of course I’m also realizing that comparing pars for this one might be difficult based on table height, gun and mag placement requirements, etc.
  11. Bear in mind that many 1000 lumen models have variable power settings. On my PD35 I usually keep it set at the second highest setting but have the option of bumping up to 1000 if I want, or down as well. The thing is that if you’re only going to use it indoors and so don’t need 1000, then there’s no need to pay for the more powerful model. I would advise to make the means of adjusting the power setting a major deciding point. You have to be careful in choosing this because it varies all over the place, and part of it is going to be personal preference. I like a simple tail button with a separate side button that remembers the last setting used for adjusting the power.
  12. I’m a Fenix ambassador (for professional purposes more than tactical) so not an actual expert but I’ve played with various brands of lights a bit along with them rifle mounted, doing house clearing drills when family is out, etc, and always run back to Fenix. Are we talking to carry or attached to the gun? I swear by the Fenix PD25 for pretty much anything but also really like my PD35. Depends on the size you’re willing to carry. The PD32 is a nice middle ground and will be my next purchase to try out if I get another. As for lumens there’s a lot of personal preference involved but IMHO 1000 lumens is too much unless you’re outdoors in open fields and hunting at night. If indoors and you let loose that many lumens it can reflect back off surfaces and might blind yourself.... at least in my opinion... but I still keep a PD35 next to my bed and use it camping and hiking etc. I like 500ish lumens but the amount of throw and spill (beam focus vs width) affect how the beam looks. Again, IMHO the PD25 just nails it in all respects. If you decide to go the Fenix route, hit me up for a discount code. The one I have is for 2018 but probably still works. PS: if you go to thier website and look under ambassadors to find me, I’ve written articles on both lights with the PD35 article being a bit of a comparison/contrast to the PD25.
  13. One capful of solution and then fill it with water just enough so the brass is completely covered. I did it in a Thumlet’s Ultra-vibr 18 which is pretty good sized. Might do half a capful in a smaller machine that holds less water. I used filtered water out of the fridge dispenser. They recommend hot water and using distilled waterTo eliminate spotting. Good folks to contact with questions.
  14. I decided to give a comp a try and ordered the stainless Venom to pin on my current PCC build. Based on how little the Venom weighs, I figured the worst that will happen is I might break even or perhaps shave a little bit of weight off the front end of a 14.5” barrel vs a 16” with a thread cap. It will be awhile before I have the upper built and fully tested out but I’ll let people know how it goes once I have a good amount of experience with it.
  15. I got a 14”. Still haven’t purchased a barrel will photo and post when I’ve got it all together.
  16. See the photos from Hallz previously-- his pics are way more impressive than anything I could do.
  17. As an update, I've received my Smoke Composites handguard, and while I've only been able to "use" it in mock up, the thing is absolutely amazing. From the quality of the carbon fiber to the barrel nut to M-Lok capability, I'm not sure that I'll look anywhere else when I need a future forearm.
  18. See my opening suggestion (post #2), as well as what others are doing. The thread was for Steel Challenge, but the same applies to USPSA with regards to developing visual acuity and focus:
  19. As they used to say on Mythbusters, "I think we have a result." One pile was in a vibratory with crushed walnut for 3 hours, and the other pile was in the same vibratory with Brass Juice and water for 3 hours. You tell me which is which. [Hint: the cases with random bits of media still inside them came from the walnut batch.]
  20. I know it sounds a little girly but Weight Watchers is easy and effective. All you need from them is the app on your phone and then be consistent with it. Tracking points is super easy. Not difficult to do if your wife is doing it with you or at least eating the same home cooked meals. It will seriously curb the snacking. I lost 35 pounds over the past year and kept most off through the holidays. Truly the key was doing it with my wife so the nightly meals at home were in check too. The rest of the meals (at least during the work week) were on me so not a problem. After that it’s keeping an eye on the scale and don’t forget that adding only a quarter pound a week seems insignifcant at the moment but in two years, 25 pounds will sneak up on you out of nowhere.
  21. I'd be curious to hear how differently the Eotech compares to the Holosun for you. Another suggestion I'd recommend is trying somebody's optic who has a larger dot on it than a smaller one. Try something in the 6-8moa range. Larger dots are much crisper to my eye than smaller ones. As others have pointed out, though, it seems like when it comes to astigmatism, everybody's eye is different. As far as your question regarding going with a 1x vs. a dot... I personally wouldn't choose that route--you're giving up too much eye relief and the ability to shoot with an imperfect cheek weld--but if that's what you need to do then that's what you need to do. Before going the prism route, I'd at least consider a Triji 1-4x Accupoint. It's heavier and way more expensive, but prism scopes are heavy by nature as well, and you'll get a little more versatility with the 1-4x, as well as a clean sight picture and reticle which I like. Also, if you end up finding a better option down the road you can always pull it off the PCC and throw it on a rifle.
