Kinda of a weird issue with stance and feet
jessesmith121 replied to jessesmith121's topic in Physical Training
Thanks @practical_man squats and front squats are apart of my gym regimen (Mondays) along with Romanian deadlifts and suitcase deadlifts (former competitive powerlifter) . I don't use kettlebells currently I might start to incorporate those. I never thought of treating my stance like a squat prep. That's probably a great thought to get my mindset right. -
Sell my 1911s to fund an SVI? (new uspsa shooter)
jessesmith121 replied to wrx04's topic in Miscellaneous BEginners
Man, I would pickup a used 2011 on the cheap (you can typically get your money back) that way you don't have to sell both of your blasters to fund this hobby. If you are going to get serious then Training and ammo will drain your account soon enough. But a decent 2011 should be good enough to help you test the waters. Then you can see what you like and don't for your build. -

.22lr conversion kits for practice?
jessesmith121 replied to ncrivello's topic in 1911-style Pistols
Me personally, I wouldn't use a conversion. In my practice I want to make it as close to match conditions as poss. A 22 conversion will not expose weaknesses in a grip that a major power factor round would. I want my guns to feel the same and react the same as they would in a match. I understand the utility and cost savings. Getting used to a 70PF blaster in practice then a 170pf blaster in a match SEEMS like a recipe for a nasty anticipation to recoil developing over time. I'm the same guy that cant switch guns during the year either... And I'm only b class... So not very good to begin with. -
whats your load look like for that?

Sig 1911 Max: First day at the range.
jessesmith121 replied to taco101's topic in 1911-style Pistols
I use to run the .45 mags but ran into an issue where the mags wont drop when less than 4 shots are made and a mag change is required. Not saying you will have the issue but something to look out for. The round will slide forward a little locking the mag in when you try to release it. -
So, I have had tons of help trying to fix my stance (I tend to stand on my heels not the front of my feet). I have a few issues that tend to prevent this.. I have 100% flat feet (literally no arch) another condition called Z-Foot and have had 3 foot surgeries (2 plantar fasciotomy's and my heel was reconstructed with cadaver bone tissue) so naturally I want to rock back on my heels... Any exercises and or equipment (shoes) that promote a weight forward stance? I am always trying to fix this issue as it is one of my biggest when it comes to stance and movement. Orthotics are not an option as I have custom lifetime once that I have to wear to walk properly.

Before I start my dryfire training I lick a 9v battery to try and produce a similar effect... Not a GM yet. I will keep going and see what happens.

I will say the only time I've ever had trigger freeze is when I'm trying to run the trigger fast... I know that sounds weird but it feels like when I focus on the splits there is issues, when I focus on the stage and shooting the speed of my sights and put splits out of my mind them in pulling 11's and 12's. Its weird... kinda like unconscious self sabotage.
-
On the plus side.... Sexy fast splits get the Instagram girls all worked up and moist... Other that that... as the great sasquatch told me once... "Shoot as fast as your sights let you"

I'm of the mind that you shoot the same ammo in a major as a minor... That's just me.. I ran sstk for two years, When I would go practice I wouldn't use a .22 lr conversion to practice then go to a match running .45 and expect the same performance. That's just me... As a 130PF rounds wont expose weakness in your grip like a 175 or 180 PF round would. Some people can change with no issues... I am not one of those people. I use the same guns and ammo no matter what. When I'm training hard I don't even like to "check out" other peoples blasters as it isn't the same as mine. Then again I'm a B Class idiot... BTW... I miss your face @NickG013

My goal during dryfire is to find that balance in a great grip VS Sight movement. Then continue the repetition over and over. I find that working my grip on the draw causes the majority of my sight movement. So I practice that... Every time I dryfire, as it is a quick drill that can be replicated at a match in the safe area to get my mindset correct and ready for a match

I am also a b class shooter.. So dumb but trying to get better. The issue I was having in my draw for the longest time was target distance. I had to force myself to draw as fast as poss no matter the target distance then adjust the sights biased on distance. For example if the target was 25 yards I would draw slower and aim harder... If the target was 5 yards I would blast out a sub second draw. I had to train myself to always blast out a sub second draw and decide if I needed to be target focused or sight focused. The draw should always be the same. That has been my biggest issue. I observe more people make this issue the more I work on it. I dry fire my draws for about 10 min a day 4 days a week. It has made my draw and first shot amazing. The rest of my shooting..... Ehhhh... lets not talk about that. lol
