  1. Is this IDPA lingo? yes. It is in the IDPA section so I thought 7 vs 8 pertained to using it in an IDPA match? for Self-defense I'd go with the 8 rounders. What "lingo don't you understand? If your going to play the IDPA game you need to know what the rules are. Vicker count = you can take makup shots Reload with retention = you have to keep a mag with ammo in it
  2. Advantage to a 7 rounder is that it will allow your to go to slidelock faster. Take for instance the start of a stage that has 4 targets 2 shot each, Vickers count. With an 8 rounder (8+1) you either have to take a "make-up shot" to go to slidelock OR reload with retention (which IMHO is slower) OR go to the next array with one shot, engage the target, reload then re-engage the same target. The math works out better with the 7 rounder in this case.
  3. If the shirt doesn't stay up its cleared with a tug of the off hand. I'd rather find out any problems on clearing the T-shirt in practice or a match than in real-life. I used to game it more but I've gone through some personal conflicts on if I want to do it for competition or if there is anything that can be benificial training for self-defense. Right now I'm willing to sacrifice my standings to get better at drawing from my shirt, use cover correctly, etc. Next couple months that might change and I might shoot for score and push the rules.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Living here in Florida its very rare, maybe 2 or 3 months out of the year we wear any kind of jacket. Most of the time its a T-shirt or Golf shirt and shorts or jeans so for CCW I practice drawing from what I'm more likely to wear. But when match day comes I usually put on that vest. I would say right now its a wash. I practice more with the T-shirt so I'm comfortable with it. The vest may be a bit faster for me but not by much. Right now the practice of drawing from my daily carry is more valuable to me than the half-second I gain from the vest. I think I'm going to stay with the T-shirt for a while, at least in the hot months. When it cools down and people are actually wearing jackets then I'll probably shoot the matches wearing a vest/jacket.
  5. At the last IDPA match I wenet to I decided to get some practice in using my standard carry IWB holster and my normal T-shirt for cover. I've always worn a vest before. I found out that it really wasn't that much slower, which really surprised me. When wearing a vest, I would use my shooting hand to swipe it away to get to the gun. With a T-shirt I use my off hand to clear the shirt leaving a clear path to the gun for the shooting hand. An added benift is usually the shirt stay up over the magazine holders offering a clear path for a reload. With a vest I have to flick it open before going for a mag. I'll have to test it with a timer to see what the difference is but I was just wondering if anyone actually prefers using an untucked T-shirt instead of a vest?
  6. Thanks for the heads-up on the Harbor Freight Welding Cart! I picked one up last weekend. I'll post my pics when I'm done modding it. Just what I was looking for!
  7. NO SPRING IS NEEDED! If you take out the entire Mag Safety AND the little yellow internal Takedown LEVER (not to be confused with the external takedown lever). Don't know how to make this more clear? Take out the sear block, knock out the pin thats holding the MS and internal Takedown lever and reassemble without those parts. DONE. You will now have to pull the trigger to disassemble. When you pull the trigger hold the slide in place as the sear will push back on the striker and the slide will want to move forward slightly. THE ONLY REASON YOU NEED THE SPRING is if you want to keep the takedown lever. It puts sideways pressure on it so it doesn't flop around.
  8. I was told that when the MS Devise is taken out, some spring has to be replaced!! Heck, I only paid $20.00, it's worth it for me What is the benefir of the Sear takedown lever?? Other than to take the Sear out of the way?? Yup...all the sear takedown lever does is release the sear without having to pull the trigger. You only need the spring IF you leave the takedown lever in there, if you take it ALL out you don't need anything. Have had 0 problems.
  9. What benefit does this have vs just taking the MS out? Is it illegal for production to take out the Mag safety? I ended up taking out the MS components and the sear takedown lever. It just breaksdown like a Sig/XD now...and its free?
  10. Thanks, I think the standard VR28s had the most light transmittal, probably go with those. Andy
  11. Want to try some Oakleys with the VR28s but there are multiple options??? Which one works best for shooting in mostly sunny (Florida) conditions? Thanks. I can get... VR28 Gold Iridium Polarized VR28 Black iridium Polarized VR28 Blue Polarized VR28 Polarized VR28 Black iridium or plain old VR28
  12. Yup...pure photoshop work. Magwell and basepad taken from a Glock, RedDot and compensator taken from an STI picture. I also heard that a 5" model is in the works. Might be up to the buyer to do the add-ons
  13. Some photoshop dreaming... #1 standard, no rail #2 G19 size compact #3 IPSC competion medel
  14. www.brassmanbrass.com has 1000 9mm fo $18 + shipping
  15. hmmm...I'm running mine the same way (bell and charge on station 1) and the return lever that the chain attaches to runs right between the 2 other dies? the chain goes through the same hole in the back. I do have an older model 1000 and I have the swivel mount that allows the powder measure to rotate, maybe it makes it high enough to clear?
  16. Never had any problem with mine. I have the chain system. The powder measure seems to work on its own with gravity, (or gets pulled down from the belled case being extracted). The chain doesn't actually pull the lever down unless the lever gets stuck in the up positon. I've only used W231 through it and it meters fine.
  17. I have my Pro1000 setup to run presized/preprimed brass as well with the dies setup in the same order. Eliminates alot of headaches. I also bought a few components to change it over to a turrent press for general single stage duties. I usually have it setup as a turrent press and switch it over when I'm running low on 9mm, load a bunch then change it back.
  18. I would caution you that with the no-panel setup, you will be a very unhappy camper if you have an out-of-battery discharge. All that will be between your hand-flesh and the blast will be that thin sheet of grip tape. I've had two such discharges in my life, and was damn glad that the panels were there, because my hands still stung like hell. Frankly, I'm amazed that this mod is allowed in IPSC/IDPA. I have these on my Armscor double-stack (Para P14 clone). Under the grip panels its solid steel, not sure how it is on the Para. Got them directly from Guncrafters here in Florida. When I talked to them they said they still had a few left but haven't made them in a while since demand was low. It does make the gun feel much narrower sans grip panels.
  19. I have a progression question... I've been using the tape on the glasses trick with some sucess for about 8 months. Before I did this it was very difficult to focus on the front sight with 2 eyes open. Just recently I started dry firing without the tape and was surprised that the double vision was pretty much gone but the front sight isn't near as sharp and crisp as it is when using the tape. Should I stick with the tape or see if I can get my focus better without the tape? The tape only blocks a small area, but shooting without it seems to open up my field of view and makes it easier/faster on transitions and picking up targets. Is the tape trick suppose to be a crutch until I learn to walk, or do some of you more experienced guys still use the tape? Thanks
  20. I think out of the box the 590 would work better. It can be had with a 20" barrel and extended tube giving you a 9 shot capacity - class limit. The heatsheild will also prove useful if you reload by flipping the gun upside down. The top mounted safety is easier to engage for lefties. Not sure about chokes for either, but i've seen some of the 18" defensive 870s and 500s having trouble knocking down long range steel.
  21. Dude, gotcha covered: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26887 You can still find them...here's one in 40. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=54747520 I have the Armscor 45 double-stack myself.
  22. Can you measure the tube length(with a caliper) without a basepad? Got some measurements: From the back: bottom to the top of the feed lips 4.674 From the back: bottom to the center of the feed lips 4.49 From the front: bottom to top of mag 4.29 (bottom has a small tab cutout to retain the baseplate) Hope this helps.
