  1. The hot tip this year will be the wiland set up light fast and super adjustable to make it fit your likes... we have gone to the wiland set up for RFRO... would do the same but will not be shooting RFRI this year
  2. On another post comments were made about the barrel not being centered.... like I said this first photo was of the gun just put together to get everything home... here are a couple more with the adjustments made to hers and a couple shots of mine first match for me will be Monday
  3. Well I got the first two out the door this week... have not been able to shoot it yet ( 6 stage match Monday ) I will say it is the most adjustable chassis I have ever seen and combined with his Light barrel it is light in the right places... He actually has a 1 lb weight kit to add weight in the buffer tube area for those that think it is too light Here is a photo of my wife's rifle thrown together but not adjusted yet
  4. CF has not been the "main match" for quite some time now.... Unless you are using SC as a transition training for USPSA matches then it just makes sense to shoot RF.... now there are some that just enjoy shooting a particular gun , 1911, old ported open gun ( thanks Vince my brain is still rattling from that thing ) and of course them wheel gunners are a special kind of person.
  5. Yep still think it is the best Steel Challenge barrel on the market. I give it 6 stars on a 5 star rating.
  6. I will start with the last.... we are "accommodating the different "age groups" so in reality they can be "competitive" with there own age peers trying to compare SC to the NFL or NBA is about as far off a comparison as I can think of The reality is we have a shooting sport that is perfect for youth and even the disabled except for one stage which was tolerable until the powers to be decided that to many b,c,and d class shooters "might" be able to game the system and changed a reasonable penalty of 3 to a punitive 4 seconds ( the additional 3 seconds is usually 3 to 5 places at a major) .... disabled shooters are not looking for participation trophies but a equal playing field for a chance to be competitive in a shooting sport. No one is asking to change 2 gun , USPSA or any of the many "other shooting sports" where movement is the norm you keep commenting that we choose to shoot SC and we do because it has no movement except one stage and yes OL has been around a long time ( I actually like Flying M better for a movement stage if you know what that stage was )…. they still have to shoot the other 7 stages very well to have a shot at a top 5 finish There are many in our sport who had no problems when they "chose" to start shooting SC but due to any number of circumstances later developed it is either deal with it or quit Is it entitled to want just one shooting sport that a disabled shooter can compete in right along with other shooters? " Is it too much to ask to have a competition that does not require movement??? Seriously?? Really?? Are YOU SERIOUS? There are MANY. " just what speed shooting sport is there that requires no movement ? There have been many changes to SC over the years so a change is not unprecedented and there are times a change can be for the good. I do not think we would lose a single shooter if we were to make OL a non movement stage. I do think we would gain shooters if we did not have movement ,and growing SC and USPSA is I believe a desired thing. and BTW before you think this is about me it is not.... I am debating this for them that can not move, At last yrs Worlds I had a pretty poor outing but still shot 2nd best super Sr on OL for RFRO you can find my top 20 M class RFRO in the records with a pretty reasonable recent OL PB of 12.14 USPSA # A93691 So dropping movement on OL would actually hurt me at this time. I just think it is a change that should be made for the better of this particular discipline of speed shooting sports.
  7. So I guess your solution is to just put old and handicapped shooters out to pasture... I shoot steel because I can "still" be competitive even at 73.... "WITH IN MY SUPER SR CLASS" I am blessed than I can move well enough to actually often gain time on OL and make up for some stages that I have a off day on but my day will come too where it is just not possible to move well or even safely … we have USPSA, IDPA, 2 gun. 3 gun, action steel and others I guess that I do not even know of that have movement as the basis for every stage other than standards and qualifiers..... SO is it really TOO much to ask to have a competition that does not require movement ??? REALLY ??? I have not shot any rimfire challenge matches "YET" ( and do not even know if they have any movement stages) but if they do not have movement, continue to grow in popularity and become available locally I just might have to drop out of USPSA and SC so I can still feed my desire to be competitive when I become to frail for SC Oh and BTW we already make accommodations in steel challenge for preteen, Jr's ( like they need help LOL ) ladies , seniors, and GASP super seniors so they can all be competitive within their peers...……. I could go on but I'd be wasting my key strokes
  8. All are correct 7.2 a foot fault.... does not matter if he shot the correct targets and hit them or not... a shot fired with the foot on the ground outside the box is a procedural This came up in a small local match and the question was did hitting the plates change anything... nope
  9. The scenario is this... shooter hits first two targets from inside the first box, after hitting the second plate he/she steps 1 foot out and down on the ground with his/her other foot still in the box and simultaneously fires another shot at the 2nd plate while starting his/her movement to the center box ( a unneeded make up shot if you will ) …. What is the call?
  10. Don't know I shoot my PCC rarely and only in Steel challenge... with testing and a match this past month only 600 or so rounds but showing no wear so far.... even if it does need changing it is so simple to do
  11. Yes at the moment I am running the weight and the spring is the stock one in the taccom 3 stage buffer system..... I played with the weight out and a little lighter load but could not get the consistency I wanted so I went back to a 2,8/2.9 of Bulleseye with the weight.... Still playing a bit might try a longer OAL before I lock everything in
  12. I use saran wrap or one of the cling type wraps and put a layer around the outside of the spring
  13. This was "well discussed" last year... and the best solution that I heard was similar to yours except it was change to 5 strings instead of 4 , no movement on the clock, one string from each of the 3 box's with last two strings shooters choice like showdown and sequence was up to the shooter... getting a fair and just penalty for no movement that works for all divisions is the big problem with apparently no good solution
  14. Well there will always be the ones trying to game the game.... but they are only fooling themselves The problem they found with the MD making the call is proving a disability …. some are obvious wheel chair etc... several years ago at the Fla State match I severely pulled a groin muscle practicing OL the day before the match.... I was in so much pain I could hardly walk... rented a golf cart to get around.... forget about even trying to move between boxes... so I asked for and got the 3 second penalty and I was fine with that... there was a shooter that used crutches to get around and he also asked for and received the penalty …. apparently he complained that it was too much and so the MD made his a 2 second …. there was one other shooter granted the penalty and when he found out about the one guy getting two …. then insisted he should also only get two.... well the MD then made all of us a 2 second penalty.... that made my OL time the fastest ever.... LOL It took me almost a year to beat that time so yes 2 is too short 3 is okay and that is just one example of why OL and its rules are such a mess.... IMHO there are very few that could even take 3 and shoot the stage fast enough to really gain much if any advantage except maybe some mid B and lower classes and they will stay in those classes until they learn to properly shoot OL
  15. Yep it is those that really can not move from box to box that I feel sorry for in the sense the 4 second penalty is just so unfair... cane, crutch, even wheel chair use are just so unfairly penalized under the current rule . It is a no win stage with all of the complexities affecting what is a just and fair penalty..... I don't know about you but I am about ready for a Distinguished Super Senior class LOL
  16. wrap the spring with cling wrap ( like you use on food ) helped on mine... got rid of the twang for the most part
  17. ZZT the only problem with taking the penalty to game the system is you will never be able to improve and be above a B shooter.... Your example with the 3 second puts you right where you are with a 15.75 to you PB of 15.56 and that's assuming a 2.25 average on at least three strings from center which I think most shooters would have a hard time duplicating.... My wife is a B RFRO shooter at age 70 ( she will kill me for that one ) with very bad knees, 4 knee surgeries so far and she walks from box to box pretty gingerly because she in constant fear of tweaking a knee and going down... even so... she now routinely shoots mid 5's and has a peak time of 15.57 for OL My times a year ago were mid 15's with a new peak of 13.47 set at the worlds of all places... but then my times went back to mid 15's till I figured out why... my current peak is a 12.14 set in Feb of this year I think the key to OL is not how fast you move from box a to b but how smooth... I realized that the reason I did so well ( for me ) at the worlds was a conservative approach in the speed of my movement which allowed me to break my 3rd shot faster.... once I later realized this I really started working on OL and now I pretty much am a consistent hi 12 to low 13 and am seeing some honest high 3 second times in practice which I hope to soon duplicate in a match. I convinced her that starting to move on the 2nd shot and breaking the third shot as her foot hit the box and the other one came off the ground really closed the difference in her times for OL and her competition level because they were charging into the box and then taking a lot of time getting on target and breaking the 3rd shot …. Right after one of her surgeries she shot from the center box and shot mid 3's to low 4's..... with penalty that was 12 in penalty and 11.25 in time for a 23.25 stage and ZERO chance to place well in that match...even with a 3 second it would be a 20.25..... I think her times of 3.5 to 4.0 are more representative of what the avg shooter can do from the center box.... considering the distance of the plates in OL I think consistent 2 second times would only be accomplished by the upper few BTW ... Now top GM shooters break the first two shots faster and make that a to b probably a half of a second faster than this old man, transition faster on the last 3 and don't miss getting those low 3 second times that we all say can't be done.
  18. I too am using the 100grn Berrys…. My load for SC is 2.9 grn of Bullseye with a 1.085 OAL they chronoed at a 947 avg for a PF of 95 and of course shoot super soft Accuracy is fine for SC... My PCCO is a Taccom ULW barrel, bolt and 3 stage buffer with the two ALum spacers taken out
  19. Well I do not intend to beat this dead horse for long... the biggest problem ( out of several on this subject ) is it is the same penalty no matter what division and there is a huge difference in RFRO and ISR as a example.... It is certainly possible for even a mid range M class RFRO shooter to shoot 2 plates and move to the center box in 3 seconds leaving him/her 1.5 seconds for the last three plates …. with a 3 second penalty I would like to see any shooter to do all 5 plates from the center box in 1.5 seconds …. the very few that might be able to accomplish this are shooting OL in the mid 3 second range so would never benefit from a 3 second penalty Now I will agree some shooters taking the 3 and shooting from center would give some that are terrible at OL a better time BUT they would NEVER match their class peers who have worked to solve OL
  20. The 4 second penalty for shooting from the center box is just plain vindictive, unjustly punitive and so very unfair to a handicapped shooter …. glad I can still get from box to box
  21. No minimum per SCSA.... however some ranges do have limits...example the worlds currently are held at CMP in Alabama and they have I believe a 11yr old minimum
  22. There is a big difference between shooting a rifle and drawing from a holster in both sequence and stance for many shooters... one needs to figure out what works best for you on each stage as far as how you stand , where you stand in the box, and which sequence you shoot best.... BTW it often will change as you develop your skills... Also there are sequences that may be faster but are higher risk if you miss a plate... example Accelerator shooting left to right is the way many shoot it 1, 2, 4 ( transition from big plate to big plate ) then back to 3 and stop... problem is plate 3 is a often missed plate and if you are quick in transition ( as you should be ) you are on the stop before your brain tells you " you missed 3 dummy " WAM! 3 second missed plate Ain't this game fun LOL
  23. My Steel Challenge purposed PCCO Taccom ULW barrel Short stroke bolt and buffer system.... shooting 100 grain Berrys 2.9 of Bullseye ( power factor around 94 ) nice light and flat shooting... Tim does nice things
  24. Yes I think the QC of the Christmas packs, Breast cancer awareness ( pink ) and the patriotic red white and blue are pretty poor and you will get a lot of variances in FPS and even a higher number of miss fires than you will with the high vel red and SV blues. Buy them only if that's all you can get or if you were to find a good deal on them and even then I would only use them for practice.
  25. I now run the CCI blue clean changing over from CCI SV. it is nice to not have to clean wax off the gun/mags all the time I also built a new RFRO for this year and worked on it till it would run the clean 100% The build is as follows Tactical Innovations receiver , Ruger bolt sent to CPC for a complete make over, Kidd charging handle , Kidd buffer, 10% reduced spring with 1/4 cut off of it, Wiland 11oz barrel, Crazy Ivan chassis and custom made buffer stock, topped with C-More red dot. rifle comes in at 3lb 8oz or so I trimmed the recoil spring until the gun would run CCI subsonic suppressor ammo (970 FPS ) to give me a bit of cushion just incase one of the CCI clean rounds ( 1070 fps ) is a little soft. I will not run anything over 1200 in this gun as built.
