  1. Jack sounds like your loan "rep" did not know what he was doing. the 85% ltv change by hud was for cash out refinances, initially it sounded like you were going for an fha203k rehab loan which should not have been bound by the 85 ltv issue. in the past the 203k allowed ltv up to 110% of appraisal. However the 203k does require more paper work(cost estimates/breakdown)
  2. when the op started the thread, my first thought was that the cases looked like what I was getting when shooting warm loads in a blow back 9mm (linda carbine for the ones who were around back then). Based on the pictures of the cases in the chamber, the last picture appears to show a bit of clearance between the case and the hood of the barrel. Is there any chance that someone modified the entrance to the chamber too much. If you have stock 9mm barrel to compare how much clearance there is near the base when the round is chambered it may be interesting to see the difference
  3. http://www.pennbullets.com/38/38-caliber.html I found a 180 grain cast bullet on this site, I don't know if they actually cast it but you can check. I found one other 180 grainer but its gas checked, not sure if that would interest you. Could I ask whats wrong with laser cast, are they not producing their 180 grain any longer?
  4. don't know about large pistol primers but, small rifle (federal) can run $185 for 5000. Wolf small pistol is about $150 for 5000. powder, can be between $20 and $38 a lb depending on what you are using. some of the shooters do get together for bulk orders which can save some money.
  5. With regards to the AR mags. I don't think it has been tested in court but law enforcement is of the opinion that it comes under the 10 round rule since there were "handguns" (bushmaster) that were sold and registered in Hawaii which will accept AR magazines. c) The manufacture, possession, sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition of detachable ammunition magazines with a capacity in excess of ten rounds which are designed for or capable of use with a pistol is prohibited. This subsection shall not apply to magazines originally designed to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition which have been modified to accept no more than ten rounds and which are not capable of being readily restored to a capacity of more than ten rounds. http://www.honolulupd.org/info/gunlaw.htm link to Honolulu Police Department page about firearms Rabe
  6. If you are looking for a 180 grain to use in a 9mm, see if you can get this bullet, the front band is smaller in diameter than the base and middle band. Front band rides on the lands so bullet can be seated to a longer oal without reaming barrel. Saeco also has a 158 grain version which I have been using for about 15 years. For anyone shooting 38 or 357, this bullet will almost cut holes like a wadcutter but will be reload more like a round nose since there is no "shoulder" to catch on the chamber edge. Saeco__396.doc
  7. If the powder you mean is the imported REX-2 powder in the yellow and black cannister. I dont think you can get enough powder into the case to make major. tried it with 124gr fmj and ran out of capacity before I could get to major power factor. Works for minor in super or major in 40. does not meter consistantly thru powder measure because of the shape of the flakes. rabe
  8. are you shooting a compensated or un-compensated gun? Compensated guns have a tendancy to have lead build up in the comp which can be fun to clean out. If it is un-compensated there will be a "smoke" factor from the bullet lube. Either way, there will be more residue in the feed ramp are from the mixture of unburned powder and lube, if you are a clean fanatic then there will be more work for you.
  9. Maybe showing my age but, when the articles came out about cutting 223 cases to fit the chamber on 38 supers to overcome the headspacing issues I did cut, ream and fire formed about 150 cases. they did work but internal capacity was less so powder charges had to be reduced. The other problem was having cases that were lopsided since the base of the 223 was smaller than the 38 super. Getting the case mouth expanded evenly was a problem. And yes I also had an auto mag and made hundreds of cases for it from 308.
  10. thank you. Based on the charts I can't blame the bullet drop for any shots that are off point of aim if the differences are that small out to 25 yards. darn. rabe
  11. Might be fun to see the difference in trajectory between a 124 at 1125, 147 at 875 and a 200 at 650. just curious rabe
  12. http://www.magmaengr.com check out magma engineering regarding star reloaders current retail price. They are very well made and still sought after by reloaders. rabe
  13. With semi wadcutters, the amount of your front driving band exposed is more important than the OAL when it comes to having your reloads chamber correctly. If more than 1/8 of an inch is exposed then the band will probably contact the lands of your barrel and keep the round from chambering
  14. S_I frame open and limited guns, Para open and limited, glocks, single stacks and odd H&K along with the wheelie shooters on Oahu. We shoot rifle/carbine and shotgun on alternating months too. Just got to remember to get your guns registered with HPD and don't bring any hi caps when you go there.
  15. go to mppl.net for the honolulu club, there are links there for other islands. also a link to current hawaii gun laws.... no 10 round handgun mags and they consider ar mags as handgun since there were a couple of handguns a long time ago that used them.
  16. Based on what you have shot so far, are you getting leading in your barrel? Your current load makes minor so there should not be any reason to load to a higher velocity unless you are looking for faster reaction on poppers. As other posts have said there are many variables that will determine your max velocity without leading, not to mention how smooth your bore is. If your worry is about cleaning the barrel after a shooting session, you could always end your session with some jacketed bullets which normally will clean out any leading.
  17. After having two instances of having a cartridge "fire" on ejection (two different guns) I would recommend just racking the slide and let the round eject. It is possible for the ejector to hit the primer just right if the exractor is a little loose. These were both 38 supers. Its one of those it can happen things and picking brass shards from your hand can be messy not to mention that under current rules I believe it will be a DQ if it happens.
  18. If you did not see anything wrong with the fired case you were very lucky, I had a fellow shooter next to me that found out he was shooting 9mm out of his 38 super when his gun malfunctioned. The fired primer had fallen out of a severly expanded primer pocket. Upon examining other fired cased primers were severly flatened and two other cases had distorted primer pockets. Probably caused by the headspacing issue with the case only being retained by the extractor.
  19. May be moot now but, is there a difference in the number of times your brass was reloaded, or are they all once fired for the match. I know there are some of us who will load "old" brass for a lost brass match since we are "frugal" ie cheap Please update us after you chrono your left over rounds. also was there a difference in temp. from your may chrono and at the match?
  20. thanks to HMSmith for advice, dovetail was actually oversize (cut for some kind of peep sight arrangemnt), got an oversize one from bomar in order to fit. dove tail might have been cut too deep into slide...front sight is slightly taller than the notch when taking a sight picture.. thanks
  21. I have broken two elevation screws on a bomar mounted on a 40 s&w so far. Does anyone know if the elevation screws for the "other" bomars have the same thread pitch?
  22. If this is the first time you are replacing that part of your powder measure, either you have a really great lube to keep the aluminum from wearing where it did, or you don't reload much. do you feel the break was from too much play after the wear on the measure side of that area
  23. The shooting Chrony folks have a pretty comprehensive form at their web site. Shootingchrony.com Rabe
  24. If you are planning to attend the match on the 9th, you might want to google the "honolulu marathon" and check their route since it will seriously impact your travel time. the marathon is scheduled for the 9th, and their route will conflict with the crive to the range.
  25. I had a sleeve (5k) of the "brass" colored ones (newer? manufacture than the plated ones? that looked like they were tarnished or rusted. They all went bang like they were supposed to and did not hang up in the dillon primer tube. Not sure what the discoloration was.
