Hawaii practical shooters as well as a link regardng state firearms laws. rabe
  8. "We kinda ran the numbers knowing that Missouri got 4, Ohio and either Kentucky or Tennessee each got 4 also. So ASSuming 4 per state...50 times 4 equals 200...and you just know that Hawaii and Alaska are not going to use up all four of their slots." for what its worth Hawaii only got 1 slot for the single stack nationals..not sure what that will to to your asumptions as to how the slots were being distributed Richard Abe Hawaii SC
  9. Alex re: loading shorter. Many 40S$W "limited" shooters are using a platform (pistol frame) that allows for overall length of up to 1.200. While most production shooters are limited to something in the 1.135 - 1.140 for the cartridge to fit in the magazine. Same powder charge in a shorter OAL normally means a higher pressure and more velocity.
  10. Alex Glad you had fun. You should have come out on Sunday, the stages were almost a confusing for some of the shooters. I would like to say thank you for helping with the set up. Hope to see you at our next match. to HLG We have a Genaro A. shoots open, not sure if thats the person you were asking about. Richard
  11. I know it sound odd but, 10 rounds of super in the the 10mm mag will seat in the gun a lot easier than 10 rounds of super in a 10 round super mag.
  12. I have 5 of the wilson mags and the feed lips do hold the cases on all of them, rounds are retained even when mags with rounds left in them hit ground and slide locks back when empty. The only issue I have had with them over the years is that when replacing springs, standard mag springs are too long front to back when compared to what comes in the mag from wilson. standard springs can bind in the follower.
  13. I have been having good results with Wilson 10mm 9 round mags. They hold 10 rounds of super, super comp or 9mm and since the indents on the side of the mag body is set for the 10mm size case, they allow the supers to be slightly staggered which helps for easy seating compared to the normal 38 super 10 round magazine.
  14. 3.8 grains WSF (winchester super field) with overall lenght of 1.85 gives me a power factor of 143 out of a 5 inch colt barrel. You could go lower but this charge has been accurate in my stock and nowlin barrels. rabe
  15. sorry may have posted to quickly the first time the 74% score is used in your classification since it is not more than 5% below your classification (A= 75%-84.9%) the F for the 49% may be a semantics issue since it is one of the two lowest scores in the last 8 classifiers. One other factor may be "when" you got your A card. If it was recently(in 2009), then the 47% score got the "B" before you moved up to "A" class. which would then make the "F" for the 49 and 67 logical
  16. from the explanation part of the classifier score page seems the score you are asking about was one of the two lowest in the most recent 8 while the 74 was more than 5% below your classification. F This classifier was not used as part of your current averabge because it was one of the two lowest percentages within the most recent six (for initial classifications) or eight on file at the time the classification update process was run.
  17. From what you posted it appears you are shooting a single stack. If so, you may want to check your magazine springs and feed lip widths. I have had that happen where a live round will "pop" out of the mag while the slide is cycling. Combination of weak spring and feed lips being slightly spread apart. Weak spring allows rounds to compress spring so that there is no pressure keeping the next round in contact with feed lips, wider feed lips allows the next round to flip out of magazine before slide feeds the next one into chamber.
  18. please understand that this is based on the pictures posted. It appears that the case has been fired a number of times from the appearance of the base of the case. If the brass was "work hardened" from multiple firings that could be the problem where the brass became "brittle" If you have been using a case pro to resize because of a bulge, that would also work harden the case. It appears that the rupture was in the extraction groove/where the side walls blend into the base of the case which is an area that normal resizing does not touch.
  19. congratulations Barry well deserved move up in classification
  20. have you checked the rim of the offending case to see if it is over size. might want to mic some of the cases that do not give you problems and compare. What type of extractor do you have on the gun? If it is a "stock" type extractor it might be set on the tight side and if the case giving you problems is oversize it could be hanging up on the extractor and not allowing the slide to fully return to battery. I cannot comment if you have an aftec since I have no experience with them. If the gun was set up for rimless supers there might not be enough clearance for a regular super case with an oversive rim.
  21. Bomar had at least two styles of sights, BMCS and BMX. BMX was supposed to be preferred for "low mount" into slide but to further add to the issue they made an oversize dovetail version of both sights. I just checked my spare sight a BMCS and it has a note that it is not designed for low mounting on colts with firing pin safety type slides. compared to the sights that have been low mounted into my guns the BMCS requires a larger dovetail cut and will overhang the back of the slide if installed in my gun cut for BMX sights. If you were starting from scratch, slide could probably be cut to accomodate the differences.
  22. Personally, I hope they stick with the lottery, unless they figure out a way to let anyone who belongs to area 2 have a fair shot at entering. The old postmark method kinda left people in the "far west" SOL. O8 was filled before Hawaii entries even got to the west coast. just my opinion.
  23. Had similar issues on my 1911 and tried what the CZ shooters were doing. Check the bottom edge of the breach face that normally would be contacting the base of the cartridge as it strips them from the magazine. After the round going into the chamber has cleared the feed lips, the bottom edge of the breach face will often make contact with the nose portion of the next round in the magazine. Solution was slightly rounding and polishing that corner. If you hand cylce the slide with dummy rounds you will see where the slide contacts the next round in the magazine.
