  1. I feel like this is a brass/ seating die issue.
  2. The 290 loctite is a great idea. I can't say I have ever used it. Usually it's a choice between purple (forgot number), 242 and 272
  3. Not sure if it would be appealing in action pistol, but WSF used to be the go to load for 115 bullseye competition.
  4. I forget exactly what the setup was, but for setup your supposed to turn it down till it drops one then turn it back or something. But there is a clearly defined setup process. I did it and mine worked fine since day one. That and 45 degree angle for the bullet coalator (sp?)
  5. That's all well and good. I live in Oregon, that would be quite the expensive trip for me. lol. I have built a bunch of guns from parts and they usually turn out very well. The problem is that I take AGES to do any one step trying to make everything perfect. lol
  6. IF you come across a standard stock (non comfort tech), noveske makes a mounting plate to use a limbsaver recoil pad. Those stocks are cool Cause you can chop it down on a circular saw. BAM custom
  7. For my SPR build I am just going to use a trijicon 1-8. Marines use a 3-8 or some nonsense.
  8. I used dawson grip tape when I ran a glock. Clean the crap out of the grip. Hair dryer to heat the grip and tape for install. If that fails use "3m safety walk". Found a 4x 15 roll at home depot for 20 bucks.
  9. I would say it really depends on WHAT your shotgun is. Inertia types like my benelli seem to need hotter loads, gas guns when properly setup can run lower velocity/ shot weight. Use what YOUR shotgun likes. I don't cut much off the corners, I have been using cheap winchester three gun, 1180 ft/s, 1 1/8 shot, 7.5 all day long. Even tho it's the same stuff you grab at walmart and everyone says doesn't run in their guns. the light side is 7/8 oz, middle is 1.0 oz and 1 1/8 is on the heavy side all assuming about 1200 ft /s. More than 1 1/8 @ 1200 is what I would call excessive unless you have a reason. Some people also change loads to alter for target distance, too much thought. Choke it down or up as needed. LM is my new standard (tighter from my old standard IC)
  10. Thank you sir! How hard would you say Fiocchi primers are?
  11. I did a rough calc, from absolute muzzle (0) to 10 feet with a 147 gr bullet. Assuming 897 initial velocity. @ 10 ft you would lose about 12 ft/s. With minor loads you really want to have a good idea of how much velocity you will lose when compared to photo cell type at 10-15 ft. The table of values I used. I took the Ballistic coefficient from a hornady 147gr jhp. Should be close enough to get an idea of how much initial velocity loss. My Table of values
  12. I have a couple builds to my credit, but I am always looking for a better way to do things. If I get the fit perfectly tight, sometimes it takes some rounds to break in and shoot 100% reliable. The most I will do is use flitz as a lapping compound. The reason I don't have a final method is because most of the youtube vids have knuckleheads or they are advertizing their own class. I want to take the Bruce Piatt class
  13. Update, I am not sure if anyone else knew about this but you can get different LOP comfort tech butt pads. http://www.benelliusa.com/shop/recoil-pads-comb-pads/comfortechr-gel-recoil-pad Available through midway euro optic etc.
  14. It sounds like it will be easier to customize the LOP if I buy a Standard stock, add noveskes butt pad plate and bolt on a limbsaver. Some guys have made plugs for the comforttech lop mods but no one has shown me a clean way to do it. The non comforttech stock is about 150, the noveske plate is 10, and the limbsaver is 33. Bonus is I can cut the stock with a chop saw.
  15. they require 0.0001 resoluton. I use a mitutoyo 0-1 inch outside micrometer, everglades ammo slide measuring block, and micrometer similar to the marvel customs slide rail thickness mic you can find at brownells. Since I am measuring between 0.002-0.0002 inches, The differences in clearance are critcial... 0.001 uncertainty will not work when I am shooting for 0.0015 clearance.
  16. I have carefully measured the LOP of my shotgun. It actually does need to be shortened.
  17. I had my shotgun sent out, short answer is I don't have the stock case, shims or choke tool. lol. I know I need a C/D shim for that. The B shim is in it now and it has 55mm of drop, C/D should cure that. But even with the TTI crew tuning my shotgun up and trimming the butt pad, it still hangs up on my shirt and feels like the LOP is a little too long.
  18. So I was plugging away at steel with my new M2 last weekend. Often shooting very high. I need to change the drop, but while I was at it I was looking at shortening the LOP and testing different pitches. Usually I would shove some quarters in the butt pad plate but the M2 comfort tech butt pad just squishes in the stock. Any thoughts on how to mod the LOP and test pitch before cutting up my stock?
  19. I can't say for sure. But I think that for the most part any reliable handgun that fits you shouldn't really hold youback. There are plenty of top level competitors that run glocks. One of the best in the world is less picky about his guns than I am and has a crushing hand shake. Robert Vogel. A glock will take you as far as you can go, are there guns that are better suited for "race"? Sure, but I can tell you from experience. After a couple months of dry fire and my multigun match today... After the buzzer goes off, I can say for certain that I can't tell the difference between my Accushadows 7 lb pull and the 3 lb SA pull when I am under the clock. Probably because my practice has made the trigger pull somewhat irrelevant. I subscribe to the idea that it's the Indian not the arrow. The gun may simply come a matter of preference, but I have found that a glock with the correct recoil spring pretty much eats all ammo shoved in it that is reasonable in it's pressure (not over pressure and blowing up the gun)
  20. Absolutely, When I first shot my 300 win mag it felt like it kicked pretty sharply. (hunting rifle, light weight) after many years it doesn't seem that bad. Same with hand guns. The longer I shoot them the mellower the feel. Acclimating to the recoil? Not sure.
  21. Oh, 20 of 3000 I would just toss them in the recycle bin and move forward. Your talking like 00.7 percent of the brass.
  22. Wondering if anyone has a set of plans for the three gun nation style start / stop props for rifle and shotgun.(think shootoff)
