  1. Not sure if I understand your question here. You can put an adjustable gas block on most any barrel... Only ones that you can't change the gas block out on are things like the Dracos barrel that have built in gas blocks. Different length barrels and barrels from different manufactures will have different gas system lengths, which is just the length of gas tube that they require.
  2. https://www.sierrabullets.com/documents/xrings/vol6no3.pdf I zero my rifles with my 77gr load and just shoot my 55gr being mindfull of the impact difference. My 55gr load only hits about 1/2'' off the 77's. For example I shot the Missouri 3 Gun Championship this past weekend and only used about 70 of my 77gr rounds across 10 stages.
  3. Run what you've got, and run it for a while until it is holding you back. I shot almost my entire first two years with a bone stock FN 20'' AR, and almost a year of that with Iron Sights. I loved it. Also piggybacking off what others have said, a real serious zero and understanding of YOUR ballistics is crucial. Cheap ammo will get cheap results. Spend the money on your glass, you can't hit what you can't see. But for most people there is no need for an 8x optic, most matches don't even go past 100yds. When it's time to spend money, buy once cry once. Lastly, reliability should be paramount, without that everything else means nothing.
  4. I have and have had many barrels over the years. It real depends on what you're trying to achieve with your build aside from just accuracy, as most barrels are capable of great accuracy anymore. Are you trying to build on a budget or are you more concerned with weight? Seekins Precision makes a killer barrel at a great price, but they are heavy. Proof Research barrels are stellar, very light and accurate. On the other side they are crazy spendy and have extremely tight tolerances in the chamber so they require special attention. Criterion make a good barrel that won't break your bank and is medium weight.Pretty good middle of the road option. Personally I would recommend a JP supermatch barrel in the ultra light profile. They are very light and also very accurate while only being slightly more expensive than some other options and come with a bolt headspaced for them. I've seen all the barrels that I mentioned produce 1/2 MOA groups religiously for what it's worth.
  5. Another person here that's running a full frame, steel grip, 2011 holster on ELS. No problems in two years of doing so. You don't NEED QLS, however I have used it in the past and it also works just fine. It is nice being able to place a shell caddie or any other pouch in place of my holster when I don't need a pistol on a stage.
  6. Most of how I get cost down so low is buying in very large quantities as part of even larger group orders through different clubs and groups. My Hornady projectiles end up being about 5 cents each, winchester primes about 2 cents, and powder about 4 cents. Brass is all range pick up for that loading.
  7. I have two different loads that I use for 3 Gun. I have a 55gr load that uses H335 and Hornady 55gr FMJ-BT's. That load costs me about 10 cents a round to load when I buy everything in bulk. I will use that for targets out to about 100yds. It is capable of much more and shoots great, it just doesn't have much effect on reactive targets and obviously can be more effected by wind. For any sort of distance work I load Sierra 77gr TMK's over Varget. That load is a bit more expensive, but had to estimate really since I've gotten all the bullets for free to date. I push it to about max and it shoots great. It has a much more profound effect on targets so calling hit's is much easier for RO's and impacts are much more audible and visual. It's also a great load for rifle spinners. It would be crazy expensive to shoot this load exclusively and it also has must more recoil. I carry the same philosophy over into my heavy metal shooting as well. I could easily replace my 55gr loading with something cheap from the 'net and have debated doing it a few times, but I would reload my long range ammo still. Truthfully I don't mid doing to loading much and it is less expensive for me to do so but YMMV.
  8. Red Hill Tactical makes a level 2 holster that uses a WRS hood. I use it on an ELS belt, it's great. As many others have said I would never run a holster without a retention device, there are many good ones out there.
  9. Is there a local gun shot in the Mesa/Phoenix area that people know would sell low recoil buckshot and slings? Some people may have already set of for that match and left some things behind...
  10. Seem's as if you made your decision and that you're happy with it. I also hadn't heard of or seen the Cmore yet, definitely an interesting choice. Especially at the discounted price. For others consideration I'd also cast my vote for the Trijicon Accupoint 1-6. They can be had for a little less than 1k. I much prefer reticles that are laid out in consistent increments (Accupoint subtensions are all 5moa apart in the MOA version) instead of BDC type reticles that are found in the Cmore. It's much nice for those of us that don't shoot factory ammo that doesn't line up with BDC's or that use multiple types of ammo.
  11. The only 'advantage' I could see there being is shooting slugs. That being said there are a few obvious draw back. Weight, you'll add alot over a red dot if you're using optics. And speed low power variables are great, but even the best one is still slower than a dot up close. Really slugs are such a small portion of the shotgun shooting that we do at matches, and even the ones we do shoot aren't usually at very far or small targets. A red dot alone would be plenty of an advantage for slugs. I've never seen a shooter with a low power variable on a shotgun and I think there's a reason.
  12. SLR gas blocks are great and a good match with the SLR Helix or Ion handguard. (I prefer the Helix myself)
  13. I have or have had; AR Gold Flat Hiperfire 3G Hiperfire 24c Timney 3lb single stage flat Geisselle SD3G Elftman 3G in Flat and Curved CMC 3lb single stage flat Of all those I have to say my favorite is probably the Elftmann 3G Curved. Least favorite is probably the Geisselle SD3G. But as others have mentioned triggers are largely a matter of personal preference.
  14. As others have said, something is definitely not right. My hoser load is 23gr of h335. I have several AR's that I use for 3 gun, one being an 18'' rifle gas barrel with a JP LMOS BCG. I have the gas turned down pretty low and it still runs great with that load. As for temp, definitely not the case, I was out shooting that rifle yesterday in 20* weather and again, no problems. Time to start troubeshooting. Is you gas block lined up correctly? Is your gas tube worn out? Does your bolt lock/unlock easily? What spring/buffer are you using?
  15. I just build a new upper for this same purpose/limited division usage. Can't say enough good things about the JP Supermatch in the ultra light profile. I went with a 14.5" and a red dot for this set up. With that being said I also have a 16" and 18" set up with variable power optics on them for different applications and back up. Lastly I would caution you heavily against cheeping out on a BCG. Quickest way to have an unreliable gun and ruin your match. I've seen alot of people have lots of problems with all sorts of different budget minded set up's. There is no substitute to reliability. I use JP LMOS carries in all my Rifles and they run great. Sure there are other lighter or cheaper set up's out there but the JP's just plain work. I've literally seen someone blow up a rifle and the JP LMOS was completely fine and was later on used in another rifle.
  16. Hey all, I just picked myself up a Tac Sport Orange in 9mm. I'll primarily be using it for 3 Gun and USPSA Limited Minor competition so I'm trying to up the capacity some over the factory 20. I ordered Springer Precision 140mm extensions andg Grams followers and springs, and with them installed I can fit 23 rounds but the first two always nose dive into the feed ramps and won't feed. At 21 rounds they all feed. It just seems to me like there has to be some way to get more than 1 extra round. Any idea or experience is appreciated, thanks!
