  1. Hey 59nolimit,

I am going to hold out on trades as of now, looking for money for my next firearm purchase.  Thanks for your interest.

  2. Hi Power, For sure it is a lot of pressure for an 8 year old and that is why i am hesitant to push him. He did great last year shooting and he did hit a nice buck. But i want it to be fun for him and not a job, so i am trying to back off a little bit and let him set the pace. Maybe a miss for him is not a bad thing but a wake up call to see for himself how much it sucks. I think i am pushing him so much because i know how mcuh the miss feels on a big buck and i don't want him to go thru that, but that drive and motivation is making him hate shooting. So i told him, you let me know when you want to shoot, this is not for me but for you, if you feel ready so be it, he is now in the driver seat, miss or hit, i have no dissapointment or angry, it happens to every hunter. I just want him to enjoy the experience. So tough.
  3. He hasn't complained about noise or shoulder, I don't know if it is just a simply brain defense of anticipating that recoil, I know last week he told my old lady that he was stressed about dissapointing me if he missed. I sat him down and laid it out, no matter what no dissapointment or being mad from me, if you hunt long enough you will eventually miss, i told him it is suppose to be fun and you let me know when you want to go shooting again. I have wondered about doubling up on ear protection, thing is that 1 time last year he that his ear muffs didn't fit so perfect and he completely missed the target and he said he was worried about the noise. So even in a hunting situation he has to use ear muffs. Maybe i will try doubling up ear protection.
  4. In my mind he is holding it too tight, but he said he feels better when it is really tight to his shoulder, i have a padded recoil asborber on it that slides over the butt of the stock. I would like it tight against his shoulder but not having him tense up. Good eye relief on the scope, when he shoots the scope doesn't even come close. Youth model weatherby. Someone else did recommend shooting a bigger gun, i would hate to overdue it.
  5. He is 8, he shot a 125 inch 10 point last year with the 243. No i don't reload i wish. I have him shooting the 22lr once/twice a week and he shoots that great but he knows it doesn't kick like the 243. I think what helped last year was that he was getting kicked pretty good with the 243, i got a brake installed and when he first shot the gun with the brake he started laughing and said it was like a different gun. I think he might have forgot that difference. We went to the range Tuesday night and he went 2/2 on the deer target at 200 yards, it seems like he has his good days and bad days. I am trying to keep it short to when we shoot at the range with the 243, 2-3 shots and that is it, more focus on quality than quantity.
  6. Here is the situation: My boy is getting ready for an upcoming youth deer hunt, I noticed one day at the range he hit then started to miss. I expected shot anticipation/flinching, note that his dry fires are super nice and steady, so I had him turn around and close his eyes not knowing if i loaded a round or not. Next, well a nasty well hidden flinch bit him, forward and to the left, but when he knows dry fire, no problem. We have just under 5 weeks to go, what techniques or drills do you have to help him out??? A little more info, last year he had it but overcame it, shooting a braked 243 on a tripod with a pillow on top of the tripod. Don't want to push him too hard but would like to be steady for the hunt. Thanks.
  7. This is not an issue, make ready, do the barney thing or not, when you have your final mag in the gun, round chambered.. gun pointed down range, put the safety on and then holster. Get ready to shoot fast and hit... high hit factor...be the man.
  8. Try a slight head turn to the left with both eyes open. Science has proven if you close or squint one eye it causes stress on the other eye. Only options are turn head left or scotch tape on left lense.
  9. Tough match, tough stages that really made you have a game plan that was sold. Sh**, could have done better, but that is what winning and losing is about.
  10. Depends what you are use to. Do you normally drink energy drinks? I would keep the same routine as usual. I wake up and exercise early and then drink a energy drink on the way in to work. I find that doing that before matches keeps everything the same and nothing new. If you are not use to energy drinks i would avoid them before a match.
  11. I am all for getting kids involved in shooting sports and so on but at this age..... they should be worried about swimming pools and toys. Too young for shooting handguns, the most dangerous guns of them all, maybe long rifles, such as 22 lr but not handguns. But you see this all over now, kids are doing sports at very young ages. Hopefully everyone stays safe.
  12. I love it, just like turning left at a light when you are having a conversation and not even thinking about turning left. I have experienced it on some occasions at the range and i have felt it, to do it all the time is the challenge. It is the perfect "in the zone" shooting, totally letting your mind do it. It reminds me of a wingshooter telling me, your eyes are way smarter than your brain will ever be.
  13. That is it???? Can't believe that a 1/2'' or 1/4'' would make a difference. Again that is according to me and not my wife. I am asking because the thought of the "short" seems logical but then again there a ton of "long" shooters tearing it up. Again is it, "it's the indian, not the arrow" or is there a valid point. I am going to convert an STI eagle to open and wasn't sure where i was going to fall long or short. ..... don't ask my wife.
  14. What is the length difference between a "long" open gun and a "short" open gun? Totally new to open guns.
  15. Getting an open gun made, not sure to leave it a 3lb or go to 2lb, it seems like the 3lb gives that hair bit longer and my misses aren't as bad, the 1.75 probably jumping on the trigger to early.
  16. My old handgun, (i got well use to it) trigger was a touch below 3lbs. I got a new handgun and the trigger was at 1.75 lbs and to tell you the truth, the trigger felt awesome but shooting it at matches i shot poorly. I used the old handgun at 3lbs or so, and my misses were closer and i shot better. So I ask everyone, is this a case of, I just got use to the "old gun" or is it possible that a too lite of a trigger is a bad thing??????
  17. You will not be dissapointed, this forum has everything and all info you will ever need.

    RTS 2

Correct me i am probably wrong, but what shooting the RTS2 is like fixed sights, mounts to slide, why??? I like the sight not mounted to slide but frame so sight picture is not in "recoil" but is stationary. I know it is slicing frog hairs but why?? Plus more money????
  19. I like 147 but when it comes down to it, shooting is shooting, tweaking will only do a fraction of what normal talent/practice can do. Top guys will shoot better no matter what bullet weight you use, less focus on bullet and equipment more on practice. I am guilty, heavily guilty of this myself.
  20. You will not be dissapointing in a STI, top of the line, very tight and they shoot very tight groups. I prefer them over any gun.
  21. Personal preference, carry guns should be loose enough to go bang and cycle all ammo, like a glock. 2011 are game guns, who gives a hoot about a 50 yard guarantee when a life or death situation is 10 feet or closer. USPSA guns like 2011 should be stay in the "game" gun category, self defense guns should be loose and reliable to fire.
  22. Going to be a beautiful day tomorrow.
  23. 1 year is very new, don't be too hard on yourself, a lot of these guys been shooting 5 plus years. Relax and focus on having fun and shooting the targets like a kid running thru an obstacle course. It is almost like golf for me, that one good shot or good stage keeps you coming back. My first stage I always under perform from jitters/nerves, but that 1 good stage I shoot to my potential keeps me coming back to try to shoot all stages to my potential. It is hard to keep it fun and not so competitive, but that is the key for me, to go out and enjoy the day, the atmosphere among shooters and to have fun and enjoy your good shots and laugh at your bad ones.
  24. I have had 2 problems in windows of stages were slide actually hit wall and caused a malfunction. Mine all mental.
  25. Learn how to get a good sight picture and shoot bullseyes and then work on speed. Develop good sight picture, front sight focus on far targets and on close targets point and shoot as fast as you can.
