  1. I'm glad it's legal because my new gun will have one :-)
  2. Speak of the devil...he just emailed me. I didn't realize I had emailed him earlier today because a friend of mine said he thought Glenn made shielded safeties, so I emailed and asked. I went ahead and write him back and said I couldn't view his webpage and asked where I could see pictures. Also, said he doesn't currently make shielded safeties, but they are coming this year :-)
  3. Sound like a winner. However, maybe his webpage can't be views from my iPhone to well, but when I click on "online store" the page is blank. I'd like to see it to see how wide the pads are before ordering it blind.
  4. Found out today that my dad has been reloading poly coated bullets with the lube ring and he never uses lube...ever. Has loaded and shot thousands this way without any issues. Anyone else do this!
  5. I feel like I could take a nap between the buzzer and my first shot. I think only practice will improve speed.
  6. I finally called a couple shots this past weekend. The target was 25 yards out and I couldn't see the hole but I knew when I pulled the trigger is was slightly left so I leaned right and fired again. On the next array with a no-shoot I hit a dead center A and followed it with a no-shoot hit. I instantly noticed it and took a 3rd shot to find another A. And did it without any hesitation. I followed the score keeper out to the long shot to see and sure as shit I hit a far left D and corrected it with an A. I couldn't see the hole and barely see the target but I knew I was left because I saw the sight drift left as I squeezed the shot. Don't know if this qualifies as a called shot, but it felt good.
  7. Hey nail driver I'm native Louisianan! Welcome.
  8. I've read about that. Thought it sounded gimmic'y, more parts to come loose/break. Do you use one?
  9. Well ZZT considering my entire trigger setup is all egw parts now I might as ale go that route, especially if they have a wide body safety. Thanks for the tip
  10. The missing link here was that my dad was/is the middle man in this whole deal, and the smith told him this, but the message never got to me lol.
  11. It's true creep, not take up. It travels about 1mm in take up and then a hair more with a slight crackle before it snaps. However, I've since talked to my smith and he actually did this on purpose because he wanted me to put a bunch of rounds trough it and then bring it back to him so he could finish his polishing and bring it down to no creep and 2 lbs pull. He has theories as to why he does them this way and frankly I trust him. He does a lot of trigger work for guys shooting 1000yard rifles as well as pistol sports and everyone agrees he knows his $hit. So, I'm taking it to the range again and out another 100 rounds though it and then taking it back for phase 2. I'll post updates..
  12. Yes it is. However, I talked to him about the trigger and he actually has a plan with the trigger and he left a little creep in it for a reason (my dad told him too LOL) he said he didn't want to start lightening it until I put a few hundred rounds in it and then he would take it down and refinish it to exact weight and creep that I desire. Fortunately, I actually don't like the ambi I chose because it is just to narrow on the strong side and the weak hand side is tactical and almost non existent. So, I want to change it out anyway and go back stock, or buy and extra wide strong side.
  13. Also, maybe it's a southern thing, but I hadn't come across anyone yet who wasn't willing to share advise or help when asked.
  14. As a new shooter I'll admit that I only want to shoot with good shooters. I closely watch the way they move, how they get to their target, how they present, how they fire, how they transition and the overall way they operate while in action. I talk to them to see how they practice and prepare. I'll ask them to watch me and give me advise on ways that I can improve on what I'm doing. I take it all in and try to immolate all of the smoothest aspects I glean from each. I hadn't started moving fast yet because I'm still thinking about my next step or shot instead of just taking it as an instinctual reflex. I know I can run as fast as the big dogs, and I'm pretty accurate as well, but doing both together isn't something I'm comfortable with...yet. So I think if you participate with good shooters for the sake of them being guides, instead of looking at them as guys doing the impossible, then it should be very beneficial. On this same thought, I try like hell to avoid the new shooter squad. Sure there's something to be said for fumbling through and learning from each other's mistakes, but I simply don't want to take that route. I used this same approach when I decided to play tennis when I was younger. I would always seek out and play (and get destroyed by) the best players on the court. Sure we were playing to win, but I was playing more to watch and learn. By the time I hit the 10th grade I was practicing, and regularly beating, guys from a nearby college tennis team. By my senior year I was serving the ball 115+ and couldn't find anyone around who could hang with me. Sure I practiced 5 days a week, but I was still practicing and trying to do what the those guys did 5 years earlier when I was getting my ass handed to me on the regular. So, play up to the best and do what they do, just do it a little better...
  15. I do some stretching because any match I go to evolves a minimum of an hour drive. Then, after I hear up I'll go to the safe table and draw and dry fire and just get my mindset off the road and onto the gun. To date the best stage I had was on a classifier. I'm still a U shooter so I hadn't had many stages yet. Anyway I was the 2nd to last in the squad on this particular stage. The safe area was right next to this bay where the stage was. I watched the first 2 shooters shoot the stage, and then I went to the safe area and practiced my draw, sight, dry fire and transition about 10-15 times. Then my number was called and I stepped into the box and churned out a high B. Maybe what I did can be frowned upon, but it felt great and I felt like I was actually in control and ran smooth as silk. Keep in mind I'm a U shooter and this was in my 4th match so I'm still learning the ropes as to what's what. I also found that arriving early and helping set up the stage really helps me loosen/warm up.
  16. I had a new Wilson ambi safety put on my 1911. Where a thumb safety should have a positive lock upward into safe position, and a positive snap downward to disengage, mine seems to be able to go up halfway into a position between both extremes. With little force it will go upward towards safe just enough to keep the slide from racking back, but not far enough to prevent the hammer from dropping. Anyone have thoughts as to why this may be happening and what I could do to fix it? It's a series 80 1911 converted with a shim to series 70.
  17. Thanks guys. Good point edge and makes sense.
  18. I've only competed in 6-7 matches and only got the shakes during one stage of my last match this past Saturday. I spend my mind energy on thinking about my plan and really focus sit on following it. By doing this I don't have extra mind space to think about getting nervous. The stage I got nervous on this weekend was a classifier that included weak hand shooting and all I could think about was anticipating that part of it and it made me shake and have an aweful stage performance. So, my advise is to stay intently focussed on your plan of action and I think the nerves will take a backseat. I flush out all the background interference and pretend im the only guy at the range. Hope this helps.
  19. What's a good timer to get (not an app but actual timer)?
  20. Going to Hattiesburg Saturday? My dad and I will be there.
  21. Come on Ron, its a good group of guys (and gals) and we'd be dam glad to have you!
  22. Just curious. What's the deal with mobile you guys are talking about? Pronunciation is Mohbeel right? Yes sir. 95% of the rest of the free world calls is Mo-bil, like a mobile phone, or the mobile hanging over a babies crib, or the mobile of guns hanging over my bed (I wish).
  23. Thanks Jason, I appreciate that. I had some pretty bad mishaps yesterday too, and I have some serious work to do, but shooting with guys like you and the Mobile group make it FUN!! I'll pass the word along to my dad, but I know he thinks highly of you as well!! See you in a few weeks.
