  1. I use 3.4 gr. WST with the 151 gr. Rainier plated bullet or 4.0 gr. WST with the 130 gr. Rainier playted bullet..
  2. I had one but I prefer the Hoeppner & Schumann PSeed Sec holster which is available for S&W revolvers, Glock. 1911 and Sig 226 frames.
  3. Revolvers and bottleneck cases are a pain in the neck. The revolver is best used with straight walled cases.
  4. That isthe way I do it. I am a right handed shoter and attempted to reload with my left hand but it always felt clumsy to me.
  5. Since you already have the S&W 25-2 and shoot it well there is no reason to change. Shoot it and acquire some proficiency before trying to optimize all the variables. I use Ranch Products moonclips in 45ACP, 40 S&W, 38 Super nad 38/357. Great products at a very reasonable price. The Ranch Products moonclips are easkilly oaded manually but rwequire some assistance to remove spent cases - see the Dillon catalog, or www.tkcustom.com or www.moonclips.com for further information on tools.
  6. I am very happy with my M&UP9Pro as it came - excelletn trigger right ouf the box. If you plan to go with adjustable sight s then you probably would be better off with the 9L and an Apex trigger job.
  7. GregK, I agree - that configuration would be the literal cat's meow. I called S&W PC to see if they would put the titanium cylinder and titanium shrouded bareel on my 627. They would with the cylinder but stated that they could not do the barrel since there is some difference in configuration or the manner in which the barrel joins the frame. Tony
  8. I have a pre-CZ DW Pointman in 45ACP, 40 S&W and 9mm and a current DW PM-9 in 9mm. Great shooters with a lot of quality for the buck. At one time very undervalued but that seems to be changing.
  9. Unless you are very well connected to the political establishment or to a senior member of the police department who is a fmaily friend you have a better chance of winning the lotto every day. My daughter did her residency at Yale in New Haven, CT. rather than in NYC.
  10. Bottleneck cartridges and revolvers do not mix. The low pressure 38-40 and 44-40 had a small botlleneck and functioned is Colt SAA type revolvers where you puinched out the individual fired cases individually. S&W's 22 Jet cartridge was a bottleneck of sorts and it has some issues with respect to reliable functioning in revolvers.
  11. I purchased one of the S&W 327 PC JM versions with alloy frame, titanium cylinder and titanium shrouded steel barrel. I have not weighed it but it is significantly lighter than my 627PC. This 327 comes back on target faster than my 627. I only use it to shoot lioght load at Steel Challenge matches.
  12. I chuck all AMERC brass ito the scrap pile. Whenb I shot a lot of bullseye pistol I kept the ammo segregatwed by headstamp. For the usual pistol games I use mixed headstamp brass, W-W, R-P, CBC, Federal, various miliotary headstamps.
  13. Forgot to mention I have a friend who shoots an old Colt Gold Cup at Steel Challenge with 3.5 gr. Trail Boss and a 230 gr. LRN bullet. He uses a 10 lb recoil spring in his Colt and you can almost see the bullets going downrange. Very light load and quite accurate.
  14. For some reason which I do not understand it appears that 40's in 1911's are more finnicky than either 9mm or the tried and true 45ACP.
  15. I have used a Dillon 550 for more than 15 years. When I feel resistance during primer seating I ease up and check out to see what is the cause. idoubt the issue is with the 550.
  16. I prefer Dillon dies when loading lead bullets due to the ease of cleaning the seating stem without disturbing die alignment. I purchased a Lee carbide set in 40 S&W and it has worked well for me.
  17. The Alliant 2004 and 2004 manuals had data for all of their powders. I use either Bullseye or WSF.
  18. The only time I was able to use lead bullets without inordinate leading was a 147 gr. Lead bullet at less than 900 fps - I beklieve I used 3.3 gr. W-231 which was below the W-W max of 3.5 grains. With the lower weight bullets I opt for jacketed.
  19. An 18 fps difference betwen two strings does not appear to be statistically significant.
  20. WST is great since it is light grey in color and thus makes it much easier to see the powder drop. As an added bonus WST burn quite cleanly at 45ACP Pressures.
  21. In my limited testing the plated bullets produced ca 10% lower velocity for the same bullet and powder weight. A chronograph will let you dial in the load you want to use.
  22. My 25 yard bullseye pistol load is 3.8 gr. HS-700X behind a 185 gr. LSWC for 710-720 fps. Lot's of particles of powder on my arms but nice tight one hole ten shot groups allow me to put up with that minor annoyance.
  23. perrysho, You may need a lighter recoil spring for proper functioning with your load. A fellow shooter loads 3.5 gr. Trail Boss behind a 230 gr. LRN and uses a 10 lb recoil spring in his old Colt Gold Cup for reliable functioning. I shoot a 185 gr. LSWC at 720 fps using a 12 lb recoil spring in one of my 1911's.
  24. I use fluorescent orange acrylic model paint on the top ca 1/8 inch of the front sight.
  25. Ihave used Metalform, Kimber and Ciener mags with SV ammo in my old Marvel unit which is the same as the current unit #1. They all function flawlessly.
