  1. Well, I've opted to use the VIT 320, A.S. is not very stabile. Maybe if I used a scale to weight the loads it might be more consistent. I'm using a Dillon, worked for everything else, just think the flaked powder doesn't meter well creating the inconsistency.
  2. 4.8 gr VIT N320, Hornady HAP 180 gr, Federal, CCI 500, 1.18 OAL, PF 168.54, 5" KKM
  3. 10 points for broadus123, I also use a paperclip. Instead of the Weigand gauges, I use a shell, drilled a hole through the rim, inserted a paperclip which I hook to my Lymann. Works great.
  4. I am noticing the same, SD & ES move around below 4.8 to 5.0 gr. It seems to shoot ok, going to try 4.5 gr, still about 175 PF at 4.6 gr. 180 HAP, 1.18 oal
  5. Does anyone know the dimensions and angles for the Taurus PT 1911 front and rear sights????
  6. Look on the classified section of this forum, there was a 40 Match Pro yesterday,
  7. The KKM barrel is of really nice quality, and with a great fit from my smith, it shoots night and day difference from the RIA barrel. I thought that I was loading my rounds with to much crimp, causing them to tumble. Well those same rounds show no signs of tumbling with the KKM barrel. I am quite sure there are many other good makers of barrels, but ended up with the KKM because of availability, but would definitely recommend them.
  8. Sorry to hear that, but I guess it's what to expect from RIA, I put a new KKM barrel in mine, new gun.
  9. Tried American Select and N320, both shoot well, but think AS is better. It shoots more accurate, is very stable, and when randomly shot, I always(as did others) picked AS as softer shooting. Not done yet, still working the loads.
  10. There are those who have, and those who will, all others are liars. Happens to all of us.
  11. Thumbs up for Redding, sent my push thru die back to them last Tuesday, and got it back today. Replaced the die with no questions asked.
  12. This is going to be my winter project, am going to compare AS against N320 and my existing Bullseye load.
  13. I've been shooting a RI Pro Match 40 for three years now, @20k rds. I believe I had one of the first, it was made on Monday by a person with a Friday hang over and ten thumbs. With that said, the more recent guns look much better. I paid 625 and they are now right at 900, hopefully the larger price equates to better quality. I have had a new front site, new trigger, and a new barrel installed, it's a different gun now. so my original investment and an additional 700 for parts and installation, below 1500, I think with a little effort looking for a used gun(STI or the like) may well be worth it. I am using STI mags, but everyone using MBX swears by them. There is a large post for RI on this site, 33 pages, and a lot of info on them, both 9 and 40, worth a read. You also might look at the SPS, I've held one, not shot, but it looks really nice, and the price is better than STI and others. There is also a post on the SPS 9 open gun by Patrick Kelly. Oh, since I put the barrel in it, it shoots straight, I was going crazy thinking my loads were bad, no more tumbling, I think the bullet was bouncing down the barrel. Good luck with your hunt.
  14. Ok, thaks for the info, guess I've been shooting 40 long the whole time. I load to 1.18, but am thinking of trying longer, winter project.
  15. Ok, I have heard of, but have never seen or personally know anyone shooting 40 Long. Is it a 40 loaded to a longer length? 10mm sized shorter? If there is an advantage for it's use, what is it? I'm up for anything that will help, but is it another mouse trap?
  16. In my case, they pretty much mic the same if I use both dies.
  17. I decap, clean, run thru the GRx, and then the sizing die when going thru the loading process. I have a new KKM barrel(40 cal), my crimps where .423 and would hang up in the chamber. I lowered the crimp while using the barrel as a chamber guage to .420. I shot this weekend and everything worked, but still have a nagging erge about my crimp. I bell just enough to get the bullet setting on the case, but it seems like when passing thru the crimp die, at .420, I can still feel a slight edge on the case. Maybe I am worrying about nothing???
  18. What is everyone's take on using a sizing die after using a push thru die? I guess in theory, it shouldn't be needed.
  19. I've been using Bullseye, works great, but have been influenced to try VIT 320. Everyone who uses it, says it has less recoil? Well, I bought a pound and will try it out, but 40$ a lb.??? Alliant manual says American Select has a less felt recoil, it is on the same burn rate as VIT 320? I know every powder is different, but as soon as I find a lb., I'm going to try it. 180 grain HAP and CCI SPP, load to 1.18"
  20. Is anyone using Alliant American Select to load major in a 40 S&W? It shows about the same burn rate as VIT 320 and the manual says it's secondary use is handguns.
  21. I've been using BE for years, 5.25 XDM and 2011, 4.6 grains, 180 grain bullet in the 2011 and 5.25, right at 170pf.
