  1. Think I'll stick with the media for now, a little One Shot, and things run through the press great.
  2. Wow, I am supprised that I haven't heard of this sooner. I took a while thinking about steel media, read about it, I didn't see anything like this. Seems like a common issue with this method of cleaning, has anyone experienced something like this with the ultrasonic method of cleaning?
  3. Has anyone noticed that there is a difference in pushing cases through a press after using steel media? I have noticed a big difference after starting the use of steel media, I use a Dillon 550, and while lowering the ram, it seems harder to release the case from the powder funnel. There is also more debris on the shell plate during the process. I have talked with Dillon, and agree, that the brass is peened during the cleaning, making it harder, and it is probably cleaner(dryer, stickier) than normal with a dry media. Just wondering?????
  4. thanks, looks interesting, may have to give it a try. I did something similar to an XDM, had someone that is good at welding put a tab on, works great. I have been looking at a gun taht looks very similar to what SCTaylor has, but will probably wait for another Pro 40.
  5. I have two questions; 1. WMKerle, what is a Nitro Fin? 2. SCTaylor, what model is your RIA, I don't see it in the catalog?
  6. Yes the trigger will fit, I have the Gunsmith blank in mine.Got it from Dawson Precision 519-1014.
  7. My PF is right at 168, I tried a 12, but the 13 felt better, also had the slide lightened.
  8. I have a Pro Match 40, RIA said it came witha 16#, I am down to 13# right now.
  9. Good luck with the Rock, when you get a chance, run a straight edge in the magwell over the mag release, can probably take a little off the mag release to aid the mags in dropping free while changing mags.
  10. Dawson Precision Mag Release/Gun Craft/For Para Ordnance HiCap/Serrated Steel, Extended Button Blue/6/15, 511-1044, Gun Craft Inc. Mag Button /DP/F or STI, SV HiCap/Lo Pro 4-40 Blue 014-004. You will want to verify numbers before ordering
  11. Trigger by far, it will do more for your shooting game and PRP makes a good one.
  12. Here you go, TF magwell, STI mags w/Dawson base pads.
  13. Brownells has a good article on adjusting the extractor in a 1911, also the tools needed. I used an empty shell case, drilled a hole thru the rim, used a paper clip to make a hook and my trigger pull gauge to check the tension. Not sure if the 45 uses the same tension, but the 40 is 24 to 28 oz lb. You may want to also invest in backup extractor. Good luck
  14. Oh! if you do not have a Dawson mag tuning kit, I would give serious concideration into purchasing one, worth it's money in saving a ton of frustration. I have litterly tossed my XDM mags against a wall, frustration, dropped them loaded onto concrete, and they work. Can't say the same about a 100 + dollar race mag, I am much happier now.
  15. I guess patients goes a long way here, you are deffinetly not dealing with a 3K race gun, with a little labor, RIA can run pretty darn good. I will never give up my XDM, but the 1911 trigger is tuff to beat. I had a smith tune my trigger down to 3lb, with existing parts, except the trigger and it breaks clean, with a very short reset.
  16. This will be the second season that I got mine, there was little to no info then, and RIA had no mags to sell. I took the plunge and spent the money on an STI after trying one of the other shooters mags, works. The TF magwell fit great, you come to expect that from them, although I don't notice any real benefit from installing it compared to the original. I am using Grams internals for the mags. I hope for your sake that the quality has improved, my slide wouldn't come of the frame(yes I took the slide stop out) when tipped over, lots of polishing. Ran another shoot this weekend, ran flawlessly. Good luck, lets us know about your experiences.
  17. Quadrant, I used the Gunsmith blank from Dawson, STI, SV 2011, 519-1014. No fitting, but beware that the grip safety will not function, this is fine for USPSA.
  18. I didn't do anything to the magazines, but worked a little on the mag release. I am using the Dawson release for Para HiCap by Gun Craft, I believe this is the part # 511-1044.
  19. I do have the Pro Match 40, using a Taylor Freelance magwell. I'm running STI 140 mags w/Dawson SNL basepads and Grams internals.
  20. Superslowmo, I did no modifications to the magwell for the Dawson basepads, or to fit the gun. TF does say that fitting may be required, depends on the gun I guess?
  21. As usual, the gun screwed that match, no matter how hard I aimed it, it would only shot C's and D's. I wish I could blame it on the gun! Ran great, only had one FTF? The new front sight helped, and wish I could say the new mag well helped as much, didn't notice any difference. The trigger work got me a couple of times, it breaks right at 3 lbs and is crisp. The results haven't been released yet, but for the first day out, I didn't feel to bad. Of course the only stage that counts, classiffier, I blew it. The only one that did it well was the new Production shooter? go figure. What's the old saying, next time.
  22. Back again Quadrant, this is my Pro Match 40, the new addition is the Taylor Freelance magwell, have shot it, and like it, but tomorrow will be the true test, have the first competition. It's still cold and wet in Montana.
  23. Hey Quadrant, I replaced my front sight with a Lightning Rod from Brazos, 0.330x65x0.075, this may be the part number, 40-067-75. The attached pics are for RIA front and rear sight dove tails, at least for the Pro Match 40. My 40 already has an adjustable rear sight, so I stuck with it.
