  1. Not speaking to whether you'd want to do this, but just to its legality, the old (Little Green Book) rule book said on page 39:
  2. Different ranges, different rules. At SLOSA (central California), where we've held 3 IDPA state matches and this year the IRC and Golden Bullet matches, the safe tables have signs saying no HANDLING of mags, ammo, dummy rounds, etc. At a Texas state match I shot a few years ago, the tables said "no ammo" period. I asked the MD during the shooters meeting whether that meant none on the belt or no handling, and he said "no handling". When in doubt, ask.
  3. Because the rules say you can't. And as with any game, the rules are as they are. IDPA is a game, not real-world ninja tactics. If you have an IDPA rule book (otherwise, you can download it from their website), check the following from page 9 There may be some contention as to what a shooter has to do if he runs to slidelock between points of cover, but that's hopefully addressed in the CoF description. In your case, you initiated the reload before getting to a position of cover and thus earned the procedural. BTW, as one who shoots and ROs both IDPA and USPSA, I hear complaints about "all these rules" in both directions. And have had the honor of earning about an equal number of procedurals myself in each sport BTW... why did they have you stand up after your reload rather than using the barrel as cover?
  4. I checked his website when I got home and it appears he hasn't shot a match as planned since April.
  5. "All low..." One thing I warn people about on stage 3 when I'm SOing is that at that distance, the eye tends to pick out the center of the target. However, the -0 zone is in the "chest" area. So you need to remind yourself to aim a bit high. With the shorter sight radius perhaps that impacts you even more.
  6. Dunno about here. But interim scores are and will be posted on the secret website
  7. How many of y'all will be at Nationals next week? I'll be the tall, ancient blonde with a Glock. Shooting Wednesday, but I'll be around the rest of the week. Say Hello Jane Fleming
  8. Depends on what "mention" means. While not listed in the classification tables, the word "Novice" is used on page 1: from which one could infer that the skill level not adequate for Marksman is called "Novice". As someone noted earlier in this thread, the word also appears on page 63: Also, on the website where IDPA club contacts keep track of shooter classifications NV is one of the options:
  9. "how long does it take for IDPA to get the scores up?" The scoring isn't being done by "IDPA". While IDPA provided the email address and an ad in the Tactical Journal, the match administration is being done by volunteers.
  10. If you should happen to be near San Luis Obispo the first weekend of September, we're planning a Classifier for the 6th. http://slosa.org/idpa/calendar.htm
  11. There's a link to Sevigny's using the 21SF at the Georgia match here: http://www.gadpa.com/forums/ShowThread.aspx?PostID=832#832 In that the guy who posted it there wrote: "Please honor his request by not re-posting this anywhere else on the web." I won't link directly to the video.
  12. I got an interesting email from one of my IDPA scoring software users. His club wanted to shoot a "get it all done" match this weekend - a 7 stage match, 4 stages of which would be the postal match and 3 stages that would be a Classifier. In that my software provides for updating classifications and posting to the IDPA website when a match is designated as a Classifier, that wouldn't happen automatically in his case. I had written into the Postal Match software the ability for users of my regular scoring software to extract the appropriate 4 stages to send to the match. So I put together a similar utility for my user to extract the 3 Classifier stages into a separate match, which he could then use for the classification stuff. I know that all the USPSA matches I shoot have one classifier stage. When Don wrote me about this, it seemed like a good idea. I know that when we advertise that our next club match will be a Classifier, we have a number of people who won't come and shoot it because they don't find it interesting. So my question is - how many of you have incorporated the entire Classifier into a larger match? How has it worked for you?
  13. I was one of the ROs (stage 4). We shot the match on Friday, but I bailed after 6 stages because I felt I'd be useless working the match if I continued on Friday. When I got into my car to leave, the thermometer said 113 degrees... Hot yesterday also, but it broke a bit after noon and was in the low 90s for the rest of the day. I left my car idling near the stage all afternoon with the A/C on, and the CRO and I retreated for a 5-minute cool-down after he read the CoF description to each squad and we left them to walk the stage. (It's a cold range, and we were maybe 15 feet farther away than we would have been if we had been sitting in the shelter area for the stage.) But today was BEAUTIFUL! The kind of weather I wish everyone had had for the entire match. The S&W IRC match was two weeks earlier at our range and conditions were perfect. "Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it." Or maybe it's just global warming
  14. Agreed. Much harder than it looks on TV...LOL... Something you might try: I was taught to stash the flashlight under my armpit (lens facing inward so no light escapes if it inadvertently jiggles on) for malfunction clearances and reloads. Also, I use my weak hand index finger for chamber checks (even in daylight) to feel for the presence of a round in the chamber. Also drilled that every time you use the light for a couple of seconds, you need to move somewhere else as soon as the light is off. And for Harries, rather than holding the wrists at 90 degrees to each other, try kinking the wrist of the hand with the flashlight a bit up so the back of your support hand presses against the back of your shooting hand. Much less muscularly fatiguing and I find it's more stable (thanks, Gabe Suarez, for that trick )
  15. Seems others have as well, Pat. Now more than 20 clubs have posted their participation dates.
  16. How about "when you're a senior AND BLONDE" Jane, who was a Super Senior in USPSA for 3 months.....
  17. Well... I personally prefer that "IDPA" matches at least kinda sorta follow IDPA rules... The "fair to everyone" concept is addressed on page 51: And FTNs are not awarded for limited Vickers stages. As for your 3 procedurals - I missed what they were for. IDPA only allows one procedural for one type of infraction in each string.
  18. 9 match dates have been entered so far. Where's yours?

    glock 34

Yes, but I only have one purse large enough for the G35
  20. As you may have noticed, IDPA has a web page announcing the Postal Match.. They've enabled folks to send in info as to when local clubs will be putting on the match. To help people find the match (I know some will want to shoot it more than once in different divisions), please send your info to matchschedule@idpa.com After you've done so, you might want to post a reply to this thread to keep it bumped to the top for a while.
  21. Are there any shooting sports that require a shooter to maintain a classification every year by qualifying in that ranking again? I was thinking no but I'm not sure. Usually if you reach it once it's yours until you leave the organization. That should stop some of the sandbagging. I don't know for sure what Michigan meant by muddying the waters. Perhaps the fact that the online classification system has existed for less than 2 years, so people who made Master prior to that may not have had their info updated in the database. IDPA doesn't require Master class shooters to shoot the classifiers because you can't normally go DOWN in classification in IDPA
  22. Explain to your club that two minus threes don't neutralize the guy, they just make him mad
  23. The folks who brought you last year's postal match (900+ registrations) have started gauging interest for this year. So... just wondering whether anyone would be interested..... ??
  24. I maintain a little support forum for software I sell. I was getting so many spambot registrations and postings for Viagra, porn, mortgages, etc., that I wound up installing a patch that requires someone to answer a relatively easy question before getting posting rights. I sympathize with the yahoo group and understand their decision.
